We land at 10:37am and will be using DME to beach club. is it reasonable to think we could check in, drop our carryons in our room, and take the bus to AK by 1pm?

It took me 30 minutes to get on a DME bus from MCO and then the full 90 minutes to get to my resort (POR) on Wednesday May 1st, 2013.

I don't know that you would make it. I guess it all depends on how many people are getting off DME at each resort.

There are too many variables to tell. I've had ME experiences where I was in my room in 1.5 hours, others where it took 3 hours.

Expect about 70 to 90 minutes from the time you board the plane, depending on what week/day you are arriving.

Your room may not be available based on how busy the resort is, is it a busy check out day, rooms out of inventory for one reason or another.

You can leave your carry-ons at guest services and go on to the parks. Computers roll over at 6 am for new ressies.

Like others said, it is possible. Our stay last year we arrived at the airport around 10 am, walked 5-10 minutes to get to the DME area, waiting in line to get sorted, waiting for the bus to arrive, waited for the bus to fill up more, stopped at 2-3 other resorts before ours and it was close to noon by the time we checked in and go to our room. We dropped our stuff and then headed to MK but had to wait for the bus there and I think it was after 1 by the time we got into the park.

I think the general rule of thumb is to allow about 3 hours from when you land to when you walk into a park. I estimate about 90 minutes to de-plane, wait for the DME bus, and drive to your resort (you may stop at other resorts first), 30 minutes to check-in and drop off carry-ons, 45 minutes for the bus from the resort to the theme park and then another 15 minutes to get through security and into the park.

If it is within your budget, I highly recommend skipping DME and going with town car service; we believe that time is money at WDW, and unless there was a major problem with your luggage or a huge traffic snarl or something else completely out of the ordinary you would have no problem being at your resort by noon if you went with a town car. You would also have more time on your last day, since you don't have to get to the bus as early as they make you in order to allow for all the other resort stops, etc.

We pay about $115 round trip with Tiffany Town Car (plus tips each way) and firmly believe that it is money well spent.

Average time from walking off the plane to walking in the resort is ~80 minutes using DME. I think using a town car is going to be ~60 minutes (because you now need to wait for luggage).

On the way back, DME will pick you up 3 hours before your flight (+/- 15 minutes). I'm guessing you'd arrange for a towncar to pick you up ~2 1/2 hours before. So that $125 (including tips) gained you ~60-90 minutes. If that's what you choose to do, so be it.

I think it's safe to say the OP should be at their resort around Noon even using DME. Add check in, then bus to park and 1pm is going to be just about right. I think 1:30pm is safe.

I am planning AK that afternoon and it closes at 5:00. I really dislike AK so I figure we can go over and get a a few big things done like Expedition Everest and Lion King show, maybe even catch mickey jingle jungle parade. We'll probably go over there on another morning to do a few other things that we like. I'll book cape may for around 7 pm. I know we will be exhausted and ready for an early night after waking at 4am to get to our flight. This will also be my moms first time using an ECV. That should be interesting!:confused3

It depends on where you are staying, what resort (number) drop-off you are on the list, traffic conditions, how many people are on the bus, how experienced your driver it, how many bags are being taken out from under the bus on each stop, etc. It could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.

Oh exactly -- this is all about people sharing experiences and what works for their families and we all make the choices we make:thumbsup2

The money is worth it to us for the speed and ease of getting to and from the airport (for us on average it has been 45 mins from landing to walking through resort doors), with no worries how long the wait for the bus is, about other stops, how crowded the buses are, when we are going to get our luggage, whether we are going to be one time for our return flight (without stress) etc. etc. etc. All about the mix of priorities and budget.
