How long do you wear the button?

That's okay if you don't see the meaning or the special-ness of her bday -- I'm hoping lots of CMs and other guests will!

Sorry to single out your post, but really, if you think about it, they don't have meaning, anyway, except to the person who's wearing one.

Ahh, but sadly that's the point. If everyone is wearing a button then it doesn't seem special. As I said in an earlier post, I witnessed a child who was clearly tired of wearing her birthday button. Just like the mom I saw who dragged her daughter in to wake up Tinkerbell. Instead of being something special - it was just the opposite.

Part of the magic if WDW is the surprise of it. Once everybody walks around EXPECTING it, well then, it's gone.

EXPECTING what exactly? Good will? A smile? A birthday wish? A congratulations? Obviously not every single person is going to stop you and wish you well, even if you are the ONLY person wearing a button. But it is special, for a lot of people, when someone does. The negativity surrounding this subject is astounding. There are bad apples everywhere, should you let them spoil the whole bunch? I don't think so.

Buttons. Wear 'em and wear 'em long and proud! :goodvibes

I guess I am of the school of thought that overuse of the buttons has diminished their meaning. Like a prior poster, I don't go out of my way to wish a Happy Birthday any more. Seems that every other person is wearing a button for some reason or other so it just isn't as special as it used to be. YMMV.

I agree as well. I almost feel that its just like that school of thought that is popular in alot of places nowadays, espically with kids sports. No one wins, we are all winners and all merit first place trophies and ribbons. Once you overuse something the value goes down whether people want to accept it or not. But Disney kinda 'asked for it' with thier "what will you celebrate" lame-o promotion, so seeing every other person with a button shouldn't be a suprise to anyone.

Well bah hum bug to some of you. It is only a button. This is Disney's theme for this year, "What will you celebrate?" When I made reservations over the phone, I was asked if we were celebrating anything. I really didn't know what was gonna be the perk. When we arrived at the hotel, they had a birthday button for my 8-YEAR-OLD son, and anniversary buttons for our 10YEAR anniverssary. Yes, we wore them all week, and we got only positive feedback. My son is only 8--he enjoyed the attention. So what? I really don't see why so many are offended by this. If you don't want to wear them all week, I won't criticize YOU for it.

Here's what I don't understand - several posters have stated they wear anniversary buttons for a whole trip and a birthday button only the day of.

Why would it be OK to wear wedding anniversary buttons for a whole trip, but not a birthday button? What's the difference?

When I'm there in December, I fully intend to sport my button for all 7 days! :lmao: I've waited years to be able to celebrate my birthday in my most magical place on earth, so I'm going to live it up!

We will be celebrating DH's Bday and our 13th anniversary on our next trip....however, we will be there 1 week after both of these events. I can not take off work before a major holiday. I know DH would not in a million years wear a button proclaiming anything (he's quite shy) and I don't really like to call attention to myself so MAYBE I will wear the button 1 day maybe on my bag, maybe;)

My question is: Would it be wrong for us to wear the buttons if it's not the actual date of our celebration??? Seems a lot of people think so:confused3

I wear my birthday button on my actual birthday, and then the rest of the trip, it's on my backpack. And that's where it'll be in October when we go for my birthday again!!:cool1:

It would not be wrong AT ALL! It's YOUR celebration regardless of dates, and you should celebrate it the way that makes YOU happy. Truth be told, it's not like anybody is going to psychically know it's not the exact date anyhow. And besides... Anybody who wants to be a grumpus about it can go take a long walk off of a short pier! :rotfl:

Oooh, I like this idea! :) Maybe I'll do something like that for my birthday trip as well. :goodvibes

My DH and I celebrated our 25th anniversary in June at WDW and we wore our buttons the whole trip.....not only did we get some special treatment at some of our ADRs but also they announced while we were in Goofy's Candy Co that there were special guests in the shop and the staff signed a card for us and VIP seating for the American Idol show with the families/friends of the contestants......it was a very magical trip....lots of pixie dust.

we are going to disney for the first time for a couple different reasons 1 my b-day is the week before we leave and my dd 2nd b-day is 2 weeks after our trip and the week of our trip is my dh and i 1 yr Anniversar so we might be wearing all kinds of pins :rotfl2: :wizard:

I think that if you are going out to WDW to celebrate an occasion then wearing the button is fine for the whole trip with a couple of exceptions.

1) Getting "free stuff" from the same place twice. If you go to a restraunt twice you shouldn't really accept the song/baloon/cake the second time IMO.

2) Your not staying for a long time. In March I am over celebrating my B.Day from 03/02/2010 to 03/18/2010 ( :cool1: ) and I think wearing the button for that long would be, as we say here in the UK, taking the mick. I intend to wear it for the 1st week as my B.Day in on the 4th, then take it off for the rest of the time.

I have to say though, that given the amount of money that your throwing Disney's way, that if you feel happy wearing the button, just wear it! :)

There are 9 of us going in September. It is everyone's first time except mine so I will encourage them to all wear their buttons all week long. My DH's bday is on our 2nd day of the trip so he will wear the button that day and if he wants to wear it longer I don't care. Our 2nd year anniversary is the week after we get back and we are celebrating with the trip so I plan on wearing that button all week (unless it bugs me then it goes on the backpack) but DH on his B-day could be wearing a 1st time button, Anniversary, & B-day button! He is going to look like a T.G.I. Friday's employee that day :rotfl2:
I say enjoy what you are celebrating!

When we went for our anniversary in 2007, we wore them for the whole trip. We couldn't go over our actual anniversary because DH was deployed at the time, so the trip was our anniversary present to each other.

We've never been there for a birthday, so i really don't know what we'd do. If it were over the actual birthday, probably just on that day. If it weren't over the actual birthday, we'd probably pick one day of the trip to represent the bday.

If it's some random anniversay, like 3rd, 12th, or 23rd - one day is plenty. You get up to your 60th anniversary, and yeah - if you are celebrating and both still able to walk around WDW for a week - then you can wear it all week!

DH and I have yet to spend any anniversary together. Maybe year 4 will be our year to finally do that. But you can bet, if/when that year finally happens..if we're in Disney for it, we're absolutely celebrating it all week. It may be some "random anniversary" to everyone else, but it sure wouldn't be to us ;)

We celebrated our DS's 7th birthday (the week of our trip), our DD's 4th birthday (2 weeks after our trip), and our anniversary (2 weeks after our trip) and we all wore our buttons every day! I don't seem the harm in it, the kids got tons of birthday wishes and some stickers here and there which was fun for them, and at ESPN Zone at lunch our server brought out a piece of cake with a candle in it for the kids to share (complimentary)! I say go for it and celebrate for your entire stay!

We wore our anniversary buttons the whole time for our 10th anniversary trip back in May! Our WDW honeymoon trip was a week of celebration, why not our anniversary too! :)

We will wear our First Visit pins a couple days. We were going to be at disney for our anniversary, but then moved the trip up sooner so we aren't celebrating that on this trip. We are celebrating DH's graduation though, so he may get a graduation pin to wear. He'd probably just wear it for a day.

I really don't care if people wear them all week or just one day. Whatever floats your boat. And happy EVERYTHING to everyone! :)

Diminished meaning? Not special anymore? People, it's a BUTTON. It means different things to each person who wears it. Honestly, to have any negative feelings toward people or even the notion of wearing a button longer than one day is really a little absurd and wasted angst don't you think? In the grand scheme of things?

Celebration is the whole idea behind the most recent marketing plan. They want you to come down and celebrate-whatever it is. Time stands still at Disney. It's your celebration from the moment you get there until the moment you leave. If wearing a button heightens the celebration for you, sleep with it on! ;)

Uttering a few simple words to someone is hardly going out of your way and I feel anyone who is with that line of thinking, isn't really "getting" Walt's vision. There may be someone (or many someones) who really aren't celebrating anything, but get a button anyway-that's their issue-but I don't let those people harden me. It's all about having fun, remember?

Have a great trip OP and wear the button as long as you wish. Because at Disney, it's as YOU WISH!

I have to say, well said, I agree with you here! We went last Nov and I was celebrating my 50th and DD's 18th. Both of our bdays are in the summer but we couldn't go until Nov. Both are big bdays and we were excited to celebrate them in Disney!! When we got bday pins, the CM said to be sure to wear them everyday. I told her our bdays weren't really during our trip, but had passed in the summer, but she said our trip was a celebration of those bdays and Disney expected us to be celebrating all week! So we wore them all week, a couple days DD's was on her bag because of which clothes she wore, (I didn't have a bag), and we had a blast! It was fun to get well wishes from CM's and disney park goers as well, made the trip even more special, plus we did get a few bits of unexpected pixie dust which was quite fun!! :goodvibes And, truthfully, I hadn't really ever noticed anyone wearing buttons before, :confused3, except sometimes just married. I guess if I think back I sort of remember seeing first timer buttons, too, but anyway, all the fun and feeling extra special in my favorite special place made me want to wish others well on their special days so I plan to sort of 'pay it forward' wishing others well who celebrating something special in their lives at the most magical place on earth! I mean where, if not here? ;)
