How long do you think RnR will stay Aerosmith?

Just got back from Disney in Sunday. My teens and young 20something still know Aerosmiths music and find them relevant. A lot of the teens these days are into 80s music. We all thouroughly enjoyed the ride several times and there were long lines waiting to get in it all the time.

Oldest ds 22 said Steven Tyler put on an amazing show at the Endymyion Mardi Grad extravaganza in New Orleans this year. He was very impressed with his performance.

I don't see it going anywhere for a while.

You would be surprised how many teens are shocked us old fogies know who they are. There are so many old bands the young ones are in to and they don't even realize how old they are. My DS is in his 20's and LOVES the "oldies" and all the concerts he goes to are old bands. He has taken me to Queen, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue ...... and he's gone to Rolling Stones, Poison, Kiss, AC/DC .....

Also Steven Tyler LOVES Disney World and goes there every year, I'm thinking for his birthday. He's great about the fans. DD was working Soarin' when he came in, she said he was so laid back, actually teased one of the CMs who was fumbling over herself. DD had to squeeze past him ........ lucky girl. I think he has a great relationship with Disney.

Wouldnt you think it would be the opposite though? Dont you think that Aerosmith probably is paying Disney for the Exposure? Just like old sponsors did at Epcot? I cant imagine Disney has been shelling out money to Aerosmith all these years. They wouldve went with more current band. They must have some type of deal worked out

I doubt it. While it may have been a cross-potion between Geffen records, Aerosmith and Disney, but you can be pretty certain Disney had to secure the band's license, cut a deal with two record labels, handle the guaranteed royalties to the songwriters (who are not all Aerosmith); royalties to both record labels; royalty payments to the music publisher, etc.

Remember, when RnR was built, Aerosmtih was at a career high (of a very long career), and just had a huge hit with Disney for Armageddon.

But either way, Disney doesn't have carte blanche to use the bands logo/brand without band approval. Brands are too carefully managed for that.

Seems like Disney then got the raw end of that one!

It's doubtful Disney pays Aerosmith annual royalties. The Aerosmith connection was probably originally about corporate synergy. The movie Armageddon (which featured their music) was a Touchstone/Disney film released in 1998, and I think RnR opened in 1999. It was all probably covered in the same contract. Aerosmith was paid for their services and the use of their name probably only once.

While license fees can be bartered for, some royalties can't be legally waived, even by the beneficiaries.

I just think its silly of Disney this mega brand that sees millions of people to go through its parks a year, have to pay someone the rights for an attraction when they are getting advertisement on a majore level. Thats dumb on Disney to do that then. I was introduced to Aerosmith through RnR! I bought their cds because of that ride. I was born in 93 so didnt grow up knowing them. Seems like a silly move on disneys part. I didnt go to the ride becuase aerosmith was attached to it. I became a fan of aerosmith because they were part of an attraction id wdw

You might think it's a "silly move" but that's how licensing works. Company A (Disney in this case) pays Entity Z (Aerosmith) for use of their logo and music. If Aerosmith used Disney images in a video, then Aerosmith would pay Disney for use of that work.

I understand how licensing works, i just thinks its "silly" that a company like Walt Disney World couldnt get Aerosmith to pay them for advertising. I mean they recieve money and free coke products from Coca Cola just for the advertising power that comes from having you be the only soda product in one of the biggest tourists destinations in the US. I figured if Disney can get Coke like that, they could surely get a band, which doesnt have as near brand power as coke, to cut them some sort of deal

"How long do you think RnR will stay Aerosmith?"

Longer that Johnny Depp's version on Captain Jack Sparrow now.

Maybe they should use Spinal Tap:

Big bottoms
Big bottoms
Talk about bum cakes
My girls got em
Maybe they could get the 7 Dwarfs to dance around Stonehenge to make it look proper size?

The more I think about it the more I would love to see this. Given how that is the only DVD I will sit and watch the menu screen clear through before watching the movie, I imagine the queue line would be fantastic. They shouldn't replace the RnR though. It should be a new ride in the Japan pavilion!

Aerosmith is a HOF band and has always sold out arenas, even in the early 80's when the had a steep decline in popularity. From the late 80's/90's
until now, they have been one of the biggest bands in the world. That's some staying power. I'm sure that's why Disney chose them for this attraction. Their music crosses so many styles/genres and appeals to people from 8-80. Steven's American Idol job bumped up their stock and introduced the band to a younger/broader audience. My grandmother used to sit and listen to them with me in the late 70's. Hopefully, it'll remain as-is for at least another 10 or more years. Though I would like a tweak in the pre-show. Until some bonehead punk thinks gangsta' rap would appeal more to the masses....
Like the American Adventure attraction when they axed the US Olympic hockey clip.

IF they decided to replace Aerosmith, I don't know about gangsta rap, but I do think a Hip Hop themed coast would be cool. It would be cool if it featured several different hip hop bands / artists instead of just one.

That said... for the record, I hope they don't remove Aerosmith. They're legendary and people, regardless of age, should know something about them. RNR is a way to keep their music and legacy alive.

I think if they change RnR .. it needs to be rethemed away from Rock and Roll .. not just replaced by another (younger) band. It just wouldn't be the same.

I mean a lot of the rides at WDW and the pre-show videos contain celebrities that are not really "as" relevant as they were when the video was originally made. Probably to most people they are just some random actor. (Bill Nye in Dinosaur comes to mind).

Just because they aren't relevant now doesn't mean it isn't still a good ride. If anything it introduces some young people TO Aerosmith .. just like some older rides at Disney may introduce younger people to the older movies -- Snow White . .Peter Pan .. heck .. even Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid are over 20 years old. Just because something is old doesn't mean it needs to be replaced.

Hopefully not for a long long time. Aerosmith fits the ride perfectly.

I just wish they changed up the intro. Man, is that getting old and repetitive. :crazy2::crazy2:

I expect that is what will happen one day. They can keep the track and put any theme in they want. But without the Marvel licenses in Florida, I'm not sure what they would use.
