How long do you think it wil be before they create a new park at WDW?

I know that this is a very premature topic.............but.................they have opened a new park every 10-15 years (roughly). Animal Kingdom opened about 5 years ago. Right? SO........maybe sometime in the next 5-10 years? If so, they would have to start announcing and bulding in the next five years or so. Is this just wishful thinking? I want MORE MORE MORE..............

I think it depends more on the economy and tourism rather than a date on a calendar. Potentially there may never be another park, but as long as they update and improve the existing parks I think we'll all be happy. :earsboy:

hopefully never they keep getting worse

I disagree. I think Animal Kingdom is very well done, with a few minor blemishes in terms of 'crowd control' spaces. It's not my favorite part but that's probably because I don't care much for the subject matter.

I think Disney really struck a chord with MGM. As of right now, that park is in better shape than Epcot. In terms of quality rides, MGM can't be beat. Backlot Tour, the Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Millionaire Play It, and all the shows are pretty top notch in terms of production quality. When you compare that to Epcot, the only things that live up are Test Track and Mission:Space.

I heard that plans are already in the works for a new park to open 2008.....it is going to be a lot like Universal's Islands of Adventure and they are also talking about opening two new resorts in 2008.....so fingers crossed hopefully we will hear soon....... :rolleyes1

If they are doing it at the cost of things like the living statues and other things that made the magic I'd just as soon see them work on the stuff they have!

Where would it go? I was looking at the property map the other day and a lot of space is gone.

Actually that is not true. It looks like that on the animated map because they don't want too much extra space on the maps. However, they have really only used around 30% of their land. While some of the remaining land can't be built on, they still have a ton of land left. There is land north of Epcot large enough for a MK size park, and land west of World Drive large enough for an Epcot size park, or even a MK size park with a resort area similar to the MK's. They also own a large amount of land to the south of 192 that is currently undeveloped. Last there is a chunk of land near the WWOS capable of holding a park the size of MGM, and several other small areas around the resort that could hold many new resorts and other venues.

That is good. I was actually looking at a property map at work (Contemporary) and it looked like a lot was built on already. I did see the area north of Epcot but nothing else really that big. Celebration took up 10,000 acres and the chunk near the Contemporary is a sink hole. Does Disney own the horse field next to MK and the one next to Maingate on Sherbeth Rd.? Those areas are pretty big. It looked like a lot more than 30% was either sold off or built on.

While a new park sounds exciting, think of all the infrastructure required:

Park Services (ticket booths, Guest Services, childcare center, etc.)
Parking
Restaurants
Landscaping / Theming
Souvenirs
...and so on.

Now imagine the hundreds of millions of dollars this would cost invested in ATTRACTIONS at the existing theme parks.

Before they even consider another theme park, IMO they need:

* 2-3 more attractions plus a new restaurant at both MGM and AK
* Redesign the Wonders of Life and Energy pavilions at Epcot
* One or two new countries in the World Showcase (one with an E-Ticket ride)
* Do something with The Timekeeper and Carousel of Progress at MK

Incidentally, last word I heard was the favored site for a potential fifth theme park is the current parking lot at the TTC. Makes a lot of sense since you get monorail access at virtually no cost. They may then build a multi-level parking structure adjacent to the new park / TTC.

Even if they were dumb enough businessmen / women and given the way things are going, the only type of park they would, most likely, build is one full of roller coasters such as Islands of Adventure. Less creativity, less money, more noise, and brainless thrills look better on the books.

They need to pick themselves up and save the magic that's left after Eisner allowed their vision to stray and their budgets bleed with useless acquisitions.

Tomorrowland is a mess...look at the Tomorrowland in Paris...now that's some impressive magic!! They took a major step backwards with Stitch and the cheapening of the Astro Orbiter (it looks like uninspired junk now versus a mobile art form). Space Mountain needs closed for about a year for a total overhaul such as the one in Cali is getting.

And don't get me started on Epcot...same downward decline there. The only magical attraction left is Spaceship Earth...Soarin' was a small step forward but I still don't think it fits the formula that made / makes EPCOT such a unique place. I, personally, would have liked to see a totally unique attraction with some creative spirit versus a copy of another cheap / fits the budget attraction (it's a crane boom that moves up and down with seats hanging off it in front of a screen people). Mission: Space was somewhat of a creative step but look at all the "bad show" elements in the queue area due to the bean counters strangling the project. Come on...pipes and speakers in plain view of the guests...not very Disney like. Save that stuff for Six Flags.

They also need to whack Honey I Shrunk the Audience with something like Philharmagic but with subject matter that focuses on what may come of life in the next century....something to inspire and make people think versus some comic gags and a tired old Rick Moranis.

Animal Kingdom is a beautiful park that doesn't draw enough of the crowds. It's an unbalanced blunder for the most part and you will definitely see Disney pouring investment dollars into this park in order to up the attendance and draw...cough..cough...Expedition Everest.

So, uhh, yeah, they need to concentrate on improving what they have. Space is NOT an issue at all people. They 47 square miles and they've only used about %40 of it....if they can squeeze a whole other theme park out of what they had to work with in Anaheim, they can, at least, create 2 more parks and 8 more Resorts in Florida if they choose....easily. Parks are just not economically feasible for them...you'll see new resorts before a park is built...those are sturdier profit holes and they've got enough attractions to draw people into those holes as is.

Don't get me wrong. Disney World is near and dear to my heart...some of my BEST childhood memories are rooted within those gates. However, with my childhood memories, the magic at Disney seems to have faded a bit. Attempts at increasing worldwide market share in areas that have nothing to do with Walt's vision and the good old fashion political business machine have tarnished things. Luckily, tarnish can be removed.

Fight the right fight. Push for more magic and less garbage. That glimmer of, hope, wonder, inspiration, and imagination seen within your children's eyes and your children's eyes to come depends on it.

You won't see a new park anytime soon. Both Eisner and Eiger agreed in an interview I read about how they wanted to concentrate on bringing new attractions to each of the current parks before they would even consider opening a new park.

There is so much more room for improvement everywhere, and I think the Celebration is at least one step in the right direction.

Hello.

Although I would never say no to another park as most of us Brits generally only go for 2 weeks every other year we already struggle to fit most of it in and I know any extra cost that another park would add to my ticket could be the end of me been able to afford it at all.

There is another cruise shiop due for commision so perhaps that will be it for a while with a few updates at the existing parks.

"Anyone up for a new park that has the old rides from Futureworld (in Epcot) and some from MK? I am*

*Runs away* :)

Id like to see WDW expand into using record breaking rides like Cedar Point. Giga and Strata coasters, drop coasters, the intense stuf.. Make WDW a first choice for coaster lovers as well as children and families looking for that magic.

Im not saying that the ride is more important than the story but sometimes the Disney ride falls short of the story and magic used to theme it.

crazyj4488 pretty well sums up mostly how I feel. Unfortunately, Disney seems to think (know?) that most folks are now into those "noise and thrills" rides at the expense of those old attractions that I loved.
So my opinion is that even though a new Islands of Adventure type park is the LAST thing WDW needs, that's probably what any new park would be like. I'd say we'll see it in 5 years--. And all that while they will do their best to continue to open new "thrill" rides (like Everest, Mission Space) every chance they get. And close rides (like Carousel of Progress) every chance they get.
I'm so glad I was able to see WDW when it "WAS"

Do you think that some of you guys are being a little hard on Disney? I know that they are not perfect. Some of the things that they have done have been annoying or perhaps seemingly not well thought out i.e. Stitch and the remake of Imagination several years ago. However, look at all of the really great stuff that has come about. Animal Kingdom is a beautiful park and they are expanding the number of attractions as we type. Mission:Space is a truely innovative ride that IS exactly what I would expect from Disney. Adding Sourin from Cali. Adv. seems like a good idea to me since it is the big hit from that park. They have EMH in the morning and at night, they are re-furbing the Land, etc.etc.etc. Perhaps I just have rose colored glasses........and I haven't been to WDW in the past year...........but I feel like most of the things that they are doing/changing are for the better. (Sorry, I guess I got off topic on my own thread :rotfl: )
