how long do you need on your passport

Hi just about to make my booking to orlando for a weeks holiday and wanted to know how long i need on my passport to enter america i have a year and a few weeks at the moment when i go i will have just over a year left is this long enough thank you
 
Yes, plenty. Most airlines require you to have 6 months left on your return.

The requirement is your passport must be valid for 6 months from the date you leave the US to come home.

My DS5 will only have 6 weeks left on his passport when he returns and this is ok. I have phoned the American Embassy and also Virgin Holidays as well and they both say this is fine.

The US and UK have no requirement of ongoing validity. The normal tourist entry to the US is 90 days, if you have less than 90 days validity when you enter the US, you will only be granted entry until the passport expiry date.

Some airlines require 6 months validity on return. If yours does, challenge this as it is not a legal requirement.

As long as your VH trip is using VA as the carrier, then you do not need to have any validity following your return. VA follow the legal requirement.
