How Long Did It Take You to Find the Perfect Resale?

Oh, I am so impatient. I have been on the "waitlist" or whatever it is through disney for more points, for almost a month. I realize this isn't long, but it is to me!!

I have decided to get on some waitlists for a resale. I find myself checking web sites everyday:eek: I talked my DH into adding on 100 instead of 50 and I want to find a resale before he changes his mind :p

So how long did it take you to find a resale that worked for you? Days? Weeks? Months?

Minutes.

I watched the big three DVC resale sites for a couple of weeks, but nothing quite fit the bill, (150-200 points at BWV or BCV, enough banked and current year points to cover our planned 8-9 night marathon vacations in '05 and '06.)

I decided one day to pick up the phone and call Shontell at DVC by Resale. Turns out she'd just gotten a new listing (170 pts at BWV) and was waiting for Dis to verify the number of banked points. Within 10 minutes she'd heard from Dis and called me back.

That was January 27th, and I just made our first ressies today: one bedroom, Boardwalk view. It couldn't have worked out better!

Like Sunan, I watched the three main sites. I knew what I wanted, just had to wait for it. (BWV for location and lower point values) I tried not to get emotional and jump into anything just to become a DVC member. My persistence paid off as I bought a 160 point contract with a full years worth of banked points. Start to finish my wait was about 3 to 4 weeks until I found that contract.
(Still waiting on ROFR, 10 days now!!!)

I think it took me a couple of days. I too watched the main sites. Being a resale, I was somewhat cautious and I had read reviews of each of the sites. Jaki, who I ultimately used, had good reviews and also had what I wanted: A loaded (1.5 years of banked points!) OKW contract for 210 points at a very good (but not too good for ROFR) price.

Sadly, less than a year after joining, I find that I'm going to have to add on soon! ;)

From the time we decided to become members until we actually found a resale was about 2-3 weeks. We made a couple of offers on I think it was two other resales but they either weren't accepted or someone beat us to the punch, can't quite remember. But then the resale came up at VWL which is where we really had our hearts set on (the other contracts were OKW) so we grabbed it and the rest as they say, is history.

Well we looked into DVC for two years before my husband finally agreed. Once we had the loan money in the bank I was not wasting any time! It took me a week. I just knew it was the one for us. Everything went very smoothly, and the sellers were from the UK. It was all done in 5 weeks! I used Jaki. But I would have used whoever had what I wanted!

when buying a resale with banked points, are you paying for all the points at the per point price. i.e., 150 pt add on at Vero $65.00, 86 banked points from 2003 and all 2004 points. How much do I have to pay? thank you!

Banked points are not included in the per point costs. They are like frosting. In your example the price would be 150 X $65. You may or may not have to pay maintenance fees for banked points. That can be negotiated with the seller. Since 2003 is past, it would be very unusual to pay 2003 maintenance.

Well thanks for all the replies! As expected, my hubby is starting to second guess getting the extra points. I have already called one timeshare company to let me know when something that fits the bill comes in. Looks like I will call the other 2.

Like the others, I kept an eye on the "big 3" resale sites, but couldn't find what I wanted (150 - 200 points BCV). Sent off an email to Jaki, and within 24 hours, she called me with a 175 point contract in the use year I wanted (April). The resale had not even hit the web. Within about 2 weeks, it was ours...start to finish.

If you are serious about purchasing DVC, I would suggest contacting one of the resale companies directly, because then they would be on the lookout for your perfect contract.

HTH's!

Yes, I've done this with 2 of them now. I tried to contact Jaki by phone and I received an answering machine. It did not say anything about a timeshare company. I left a message, so we shall see. Maybe I will do as you did and send an email. Thanks!

Lexifern, just a bit of advice from my experience. Don't totally rely on these timeshare resalers to be on the lookout for you. I called or emailed the "big 3" and never heard anything. I think alot of people do call them who are not serious. My resale was listed on Jaki's site for a few days without any advance notice to me. (I let all of them know what I was looking for. My husband even followed up with The Timeshare Store. Still nothing.) Keep checking a couple of times per day and something will come up. Best of luck!!!

Thanks momtofour. Do they update their sites many times throughout the day? I found a resale that would have been perfect on monday, so I called. They said someone would get back to me. When they returned my call 20 minutes later, I was told it had sold 10 minutes ago:rolleyes: Thanks for the heads up.

Lexxiefern, The Timeshare told me they do their updates by 2:00 PM eastern time. I have seen them earlier though. I personally really started watching after 10:00 AM central time and would see new activity. (Look at the coding in their listing numbers, those last digits are date related I am sure!!) Also, if you call Shontell Crawford (I think it's DVCBYRESALE) they will put you on some type of email list which will notify you of new listings prior to when they are added to her site. She didn't seem too interested in giving me a "heads up" before listing anything publicly. (Despite very specific parameters) Best of luck and be proactive!!
(And patient!! It's out there!!)

We where lucky, called the TSS and they had exactly what we needed! One hundred and fifty points at OKW, none used, and the use year same as ours! We are now in the process of waiting for ROFR from Disney! Hope it goes smooth, sales rep said we should know within a month or so!!

I checked the TSS regularly for a few weeks for what we were looking for (BWV 200 pts, $65pp, some banked points or at least all from currenty year available). I also got their email update when new properties became available. It took about a month for the perfect one to surface but by that time we had the financing aspect already worked out with our HELOC so we were able to act quickly and jump on it the minute I got the email notice (and before it went on the website).

About 10 minutes total time. With luck, ROFR will go through.

I would say we looked at resales for about 3 or 4 months before we bought 232 pts at OKW at 58 a point a couple years ago. Our first purchase was at BWV in 98 for 270 pts, so we were not anxious nor in a hurry. That helps prevent bad decisions made in the heat of the moment! Good Luck!
