How long did it take you and your partner to conceive?

With our first DD, we got pregnant the second month we tried. I was 29.

With our second DD, it happened the first month we tried - I was 31. I know we've been very lucky.

Best of luck to you - I hope it happens very soon!! You will love being a Mom whenever and however it happens!

First baby was an oops.

Second baby first try at age 40.

Third baby second try at age 42.

Third baby was a c-section, so I definately had the tubal. Wasn't taking any chances.

first baby stopped BCP end of Jan 03, TTC feb neg, then missed ovulation when I went to Disney Land in march, the April came along & got + preg test end of April.
2nd baby I was on BC the nuva ring I missed the 1st 2 days, then put it in. I concived that month because of those 2 missed days.
I have been a surrogate 2 times, and did IVF to carry the other couples child, first cycle worked delivered April 08,
then second couple first cycle worked I am due sept 4

It took us two tries with our first one, and the second one...... well I guess my calculations were a bit off since we were using my ovulation dates to avoid conception, and well, you can see my ticker :rotfl: . After this one I am not letting my husband anywhere near me!!!

eta: I was 23 with my first and 24 with this one

I was VERY blessed - I got pregnant with #1 unplanned (wine + natural family planning), knew #2's due date 3 months out, knew #3's due date 6 months out, and went off the pill for one month and had an appointment for an IUD, and had yet again another wine + natural family planning accident. I almost made DH go for a vasectomy, even after my tubal.

It was nearly 5 years from the time I went off BCP until DD#1 was born. We tried hard (with help from a RE) for 2 1/2 years. We also had two pregnancy losses during that 5 years.

4 months after I delivered DD#1, I found out I was pregnant with #2. I had not gotten a period and was still nursing exclusively. DD#2's was born 6 days before DD#1's first birthday.

We have been very careful since then, but my cycles are pretty irregular nowadays.

Good luck to you, OP. It's worth discussing things with your OB/GYN. If you have been trying for a while (6-12 months) it might be time to see a RE, especially if you are older. Your OB/GYN can do some casual, simple blood tests (thyroid, prolactin, etc.) to make sure there is not an underlying medical cause for your trouble. I know others disagree with me, but I would not spend a lot of time with your OB/GYN, especially if it has been longer than a year. At that point you need the expertise of a RE - and it takes a long time to get an appointment, so don't wait too long.

Not as long as I thought it would take, but longer than I wanted it to...if that makes any sense.

I had been on birth control in some shape, form, or fashion continuously from age 16 through 32. I had been using the NuvaRing for the last two years, and stopped it in April 2008. I didn't know it, but I got pregnant for the first time in September 2008 (while on a Disney cruise! :) ) but it was an ectopic that ruptured and I had to have surgery to remove my fallopian tube in November 2008.

The very next time I ovulated in December, I got pregnant, and here I am fat and miserable, due the first week of September!

1 month on the first one. 3 weeks on the second.

Swear to heaven above...The wife got a little gun shy after the second one.

LOL - my DH couldn't wait to "try," and he never got more than a few days with each baby! :rotfl2:

It took about 3 years for our first. Currently, I am pregnant with number 2, and that took about 4 years. Alot of people felt really bad for us, and I didn't want to go the medical route because I felt if it was supposed to happen it would. And it did. It just took alot longer than some thought it should.

Sorry you're having trouble:grouphug:

I never made it through the first month once we stopped being careful. I was 28 when I conceived DD and 30 when I conceived DS.

The first month with both. And I had two years of high dose chemotherapy as a teenager. Lucky, lucky to have it happen so quickly.

DD#1 2 mths (now 11 y/o)
DD#2 2 mths (now 2 y/o)
DD#3 2 mths (pregnancy loss)
Baby #4 8 mths(Clomid assisted, ended in miscarriage)
TTC Baby #5 since Jan 09

I'm 42 and on Clomid.

I agree with other posters about reading the book. Try not to get too caught up in TTC too much as it cen be very stressful. I know...I have been there. My doctor is making me temp again and I hate it but it has shown that something has been out of sorts for the past couple of months. Hopefully this month works for us.

Pixie and baby dust to you :)

Thank you all for your replies and sharing something that is really personal.... I think I will be walking down to the bookstore sometime this week and picking up the recommended reading. I probably should do a little more research into the whole situation. I have a feeling I set up some unrealistic expectations. Hopefully I'll have exciting news in the very near future!

I know this is a very personal question, but I was wondering how long it took you and your partner to conceive once you decided to start a family. My husband and I have been trying and it’s taking longer than I thought (hoped) it would (although I probably had unrealistic expectations!). I know that every situation is different, but I’m wondering if there is any kind of an “average”.
Thanks in advance.

I went off the pill last April, had a 27-day cycle and on the next cycle I got pregnant. I was surprised; my mom had fertility issues. I found out later that if you've been on the pill a long time it can happen quickly. :rotfl:

Here's some info from webmd on the subject of length of time to conceive: http://www.webmd.com/infertility-and-reproduction/guide/ready-to-conceive

It took a trip for a snip before she calmed down. We're done having kids now. if we were younger we would have had a whole covey of kidlets.

I'm sorry it's taking so long for you guys. That has got to be one of the hardest things to deal with out there. :grouphug:

I got pregnant the first month I wasn't on birth control... we weren't TTC, but we didn't use any backup method that month either.

With my DD it took 3.5 years and a ton of fertility treatments. Now, we have been trying again for about 6 years.

DH and I are both teachers. Therefore, we wanted spring babies so I could take off a few weeks before the end of the school year along with the summer.

I charted for 3 months before trying so I could get an idea of my ovulation cycles. Got pregnant on the 2nd try with DD and had her in mid-April, just as planned.

For DS, we started trying a month earlier than when we actually wanted to conceive figuring it was a "trial run" and it would take 2 or 3 months. Ended up conceiving on the 1st try and had him at the end of February.

Back then I didn't have the book that everyone is recommending but it probably has a lot of the same things in it that I learned about by reading other books. Good luck! I hope you get some good news soon!

With DD11 we had been married a bit over a year and decided we were at the point of if it happens it happens, we got pregnant around our 2nd Anniversay. Decided to try for #2 a couple of years later, couldn't do it on our own, did the clomid-nothing, did a year of IUIs, finally got pregnant, but it was deemed a chemical pregnancy and we lost it a few days later. After almost 7 years of trying we gave up, I bought a sports car...got pregnant on our own with DS4 (almost) at Thanksgiving. He was born 4 days before my 33rd birthday.

This afternoon I'm headed to the Dr. for a blood test...we had a + at home test and want to confirm. We weren't trying (then again we weren't not trying). A little nervous though as I will be 37 with this one (thinking of all the bad things). Funny thing is, I'd have the same due date as I did with DD 12 years ago. Keeping my fingers crossed. :cloud9:
