How Long Did It Take To Get Your Passport? Poll

We went to the Kitchener office last Friday and recieved them at home yesterday, 7 days total.

I have some good news for you. My DH's passport credit card transaction showed up on our credit card record and he got his passport one week after that.

I wasn't so lucky, received my application back after 2 months of sending it. I had forgot to check the little box asking if I had another passport from another country:scared1: . I LIVED IN CANADA MY ENTIRE LIFE...... :headache:

My DH will be going in person monday and hopefully I'll get it before our August trip.... My God they had less problems splitting the atom....;)

3 of our passports were credited last week and mine was not, so I think I did make a mistake and they are sending it back. Ironically, I found all this out when I went in person to the Regina office with my new birth certificate for myself. I had given up on my mailed in passports and was re applying in person for the family when I found this out about my wife and children passports. Aside from the passport fee, i have had to pay an extra 60 dollars for my birth certificate, 45 dollars for my wife (which wasn't even needed), forty dollars for new passport photos (only mine were actually needed). I feel like taking all of these expenses off my taxes when I file this year!!! Oh well, I suppose I will forget about all this stress when I board my flight on April 16th. To anyone out there who is going or about to go through applying for passports my advice is GO IN PERSON AND DO NOT MAIL YOUR APPLICATION IN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Can anyone tell me how long the wait is to receive your passport through mail after your credit card has been charged. Mine was charged on March 21st and I am leaving on April 16th (last mail day is April 13th). Do you think that is enough time to receive it?

Thanks!

Hi Busta....was charged on March 5th, passports were "issued" on March 12th and rec'd in hand on March 15th. Kids were home on March break to sign for them from Canada Post. You'll hopefully be fine (with two weeks to spare). I know you won't rest until you have them in your hot hands!

Thanks for this info, fatty4iz! What time of day did you go to the Kitchener office and how long was the wait? Did you do the online forms?

We completed the online forms before we went , I believe we were there around 3:00 and it took about 40-45 mins. The place was very crowded and we had second thoughts about getting in line but they really push alot of people through very quickly. Realitively painless and we were happy with the service even with three small children in tow.

Thanks very much, fatty4iz! I hope it goes as quickly for my DH. His passport expires in May and he's been putting it off as long as possible.

What day are we on at Passport Canada? :confused3

At least Jan.16th--I hope. I thought they were going to pick it up a little ?

Patience, Patience, Patience

*phoned p.p. Canada and yes, they are working on Jan.16th applications.
He said it will now take 11 weeks to receive passports by mail.

Hi everyone,
My Dh brought mine in this morning. I sent mine through the mail at the end of January and they sent it back because I forgot to check off one part of the application:sad2: I was so discouraged. However my DH called me and said they are going to mail mine on April 18. So, if you are planing to mail yours in, DON'T. Go in person it's less stressful:hippie:
Hopefully we will have all of our passeports before we leave in August:banana:

I completed our applications on line before hand, drove to halifax from Sydney, gave me an excuse to go shopping, this was on Feb 9th and recieved my passports the other day, I believe it was March 20th.
I was too afraid to mail them in. I am leaving May 1st.......We were there at 8am ,there were alot of people there already, and we were out of there by 9:45. In January a friend of mine waited in line for 7 hours. That is crazy......

DH got his passport in the mail yesterday!! :woohoo: Now it's all set we can FOR SURE make our trip next week!! OMG- my trip is next week (I love saying that!!)

We called last Friday, we were told our son's hasn't been opened yet, and we should call back on April 2nd to get it fast tracked. We called today, it is done and we should have it on Friday. We took the application to a Service Canada drop off location(HRDC office) in Newfoundland on Jan 26 where it was paid for and checked over at the same time.

DH went into the Ottawa office around lunch on Fri to do his renewal (in line for 30min) and he picked up his new passport on Monday (10 min wait). So one business day.

We have 3 more to do as all of ours expire in August. I will probably do them in May.

Thanks for the info on the halifax office! My and DH's applications got returned because one little box wasn't checked. I fixed it and am taking them in tomorrow morning.

Was at the Whitby office today around 230, 20 minute wait. We paid the extra 10$. The girl said it would be ready April 12 at the Scarborugh Center office for pick up.

Is the time waiting for passports less if it is for a renewal? Is any of the paper work different? I will be taking my Grandmother to get her passport renewed, and I wasn't sure if I follow the same process as I did to receive my passport. We will be going to the Kitchener, Ontario office. When I went for my passport there, I heard them say something about renewal, but I didn't pay attention at the time. Anyone with done this in Kitchener?

We couriered our applications on February 9...We wanted to track the application should the passport office say they never received it. We just got the passports on Monday (March 26), so a total of about 6 weeks. Would do it the same way again next time....

For those that are interested in time to process a mailed application, here are my final details:

Mailed on Jan. 17th
Arrived on March 28th

About ten weeks by mail. I'm a bit skeptical of the dates that Passport Canada says they are opening as mine was mailed (just with a stamp) on the 17th so it probably didn't arrive until five or six days later. Also, it was mailed to Gateneau but was processed in Mississauga. Oh well, just damn happy they arrived as we leave on April sixteenth. Good luck to all that are waiting....what a hassle!

Well I’m the happiest person in Canada right now, I got me passport!!! It was soo worth the 2 day drive from Labrador to Ottawa to get it done in person. I applied at the office on March 13th got it express post to Labrador, arrived March 30th… :yay:

the first passport I sent by mail back in January… still in a pile somewhere unprocessed!!! :sad2:

Word of Advice!! if your going on a trip that you can’t afford to miss and you have only 3 months till you leave with no passport.. APPLY IN PERSON!!!!

it saves the stress
