I was just wondering how long before you leave do you start to pack? I am leaving December 30th, and want to be packed BEFORE christmas, so i can enjoy my holiday! What do you think? :wave2:

I pack the night befor I leave. That being said pack whenever it is most convenient for you. :D

I pack in stages.

about 60 days out I pack our toiletry bag. I buy all new stuff. (We never worry about running out of something.) Then when we get home all these go on the shelf for our extras. It also helps to spread out the expense a ways before the trip. I keep a sheet in the bath that has the things highlighted that I need to add at the last minute.

About 2 weeks out, I pack our back pack and our re-usable souvineers. Double check plenty of film and extra camera batteries, etc.

About a week out, pull out all clothes we plan to pack. Pack what I can, set out traveling clothes. then actually finish packing the afternoon before the trip. Pack van the night before trip.

But do what is best for you and your schedule!!

If I didn't want everyone to think I was crazy I'd start packing right now for my trip in March. :hyper:

I agree pack whenever you want. We leave December 20 and I am packing next week. This is a suprise for my kids. So as I put their summer clothes away I am going to pack. I bought new socks and underwear, jeans, and shoes. Hopefully they won't notice much. They wear uniformes to school so not much time for other things. Pack a little at a time and you won't feel overwhelmed and do what is good for you.

As soon as you want! We're going in two weeks (nov 29) and I've been packing since September! I packed lots of stuff that is for the villa and toiletries that are just for the trip. I've packed lots of summer clothes already since we won't be using them. Bathing suits, sunscreen. Anything I can.

I'll do the last bit the week before and then the night before and then right before we leave...like my toothbrush etc...

I don't care if they think I'm crazy! I like being organized.

My DH packs either the night before or the morning of and one year he forgot sneakers and then last year, he forgot UNDERWEAR!!!! We had to go search for the Walmart to buy him a supply!:earseek:

I start gathering about 2 weeks before the trip and then continue to add things as certain things come through the wash and as I think about it! This plan works well as we pack for 6! Find out what works best for you! And dont forget the ziploc bags..they are great for everything!

We are leaving on Wednesday and I would love to be packed by the end of the weekend but I am sure I will still be packing Tuesday night:sunny:

I started shopping for little things like toiletries, moleskin, toiletry bag, ponchos during the summer as I did my regular Target/Walmart type shopping. I packed a lot of the summer clothes about six weeks ago when the weather changed here and I knew we wouldn't be wearing shorts anymore. Last weekend I finalized all of the packing that couldn't be done last minute. I'll put everything in the car tonight except for our toiletry bag which we still need to fill last minute and my tote/purse, which I'll throw some water and snacks into tomorrow morning. The last thing to be packed is the kids' favorite beany babies--one each--which I am sure they will want to sleep with tonight and take on the plan with them tomorrow.

So for me, it is a process of a few months. But I do it that way because it is fun for me and makes me feel like I am making the trip come sooner. Also I have to work more hours the weeks prior to a vacation in order to have time off for the vacation. But the amount of work involved in packing could definitely take less than a week for others.

We have a rubbermaid bin open and each time we come accross something that should be packed we throw it in...

About 2 weeks out, I get out my list of must haves and go through the bin. We then decide if the things in the bin are really needed. Do we really need 2 types of sunscreen? I guess only one lanyard will do? So some things go back into a closet.

My suitcase is partially filled now with shorts and swinsuits. I keep my blouses for last to pack because I wear short sleeves yearound and pack those at the last minute.

We are just 2 people so we pack half empty bottles and other toiletries and we always have enough. At the end of the trip, we toss what is left and that is that.

Pack now and be proud...:wave2:

PS...Have a great trip drcmk

I "practice pack" 2 months in advance. Practice packing is pulling out the assortment of luggage I have available and stuffing my stuff into various pieces to see what "feels" right. Each trip is a little different.

I start getting serious about 3 weeks before the trip with check lists and reminders. Right now I am almost completely packed for my trip in two weeks.

I have THREE WORDS to your question.....NEVER SOON ENOUGH!!:yo-yo: :hyper:  :faint: :scared1: It seems I ALWAYS pack TOO MUCH AND I NEVER get finished packing till the last darn minute!

I agree, I ALWAYS bring way too many clothes. Not this time! I'm traveling with my 3yo, just the two of us and he doesn't carry any luggage!!!!

Last year I think my family used less than half the clothes I brought :crazy2:

I have 1 drawer...that one drawer is like the size of my suitcase...so, I've been stashing stuff in there little by little....At the end of one of our busiest times at work I had some extra $$$ I went and bought some stuff...all packed in its little spot.
When ever I get down about not getting there fast enough...I get something from...last week I got suntan lotion...just so I would have some :) I have shout wipes...Oh and mcdonalds, and kfc have handi wipes...so I always ask for a couple more...I pack those away too...so little by little I'll have everything I
'will need.

I still have tons of time...but when the day seems like it isnt going anywhere...I find something to hide away...

Well---all the stuff is laid out on the guest bed; the pochos bought;the backpack cleaned out; the suitcase is open-- All the girls things are organized into daily outfits. I just have to get to walmart or target today to buy my Ziploc bags. I'd rather plan than pack but it is the only way to get to WDW so packing here i come!!!

I am terrible. I talk about packing. I buy stuff to pack, DH ends up packing the night before.

WE ARE LEAVING 12/4 AND I'VE ALREADY BEGUN TO PACK, JUST SHORTS AND OTHER THINGS WE DEFINATLY DO NOT NEED IN OUR CURRENT CLIMATE. SINCE WE WILL BE AWAY FOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS MAYBE AS LONG AS A MONTH, I WANT TO PLAN WHAT WE ARE TAKING VERY CAREFULLY!

I think it's a great idea to pack before Christmas, one less thing you have to worry about over the holidays!

Since my summer clothes are laying around, maybe I'll wash a load and start packing Thanksgiving weekend. We leave for DisneyWorld Dec. 14th, so that should work out pretty well.

A suggestion for those who pack early: Put a Bounce sheet in with your clothes so they stay fresh sitting in the luggage.

I, personally, am a last minute packer. And I do NOT recommend it. The last trip I went on was my very first plane trip. I was so excited, I ran out and bought a new portable CD player, and new books to read on the plane! Well, as I was throwing stuff in my carryon bag half an hour before we left for the airport, I somehow managed to forget my CDs and the books. I think next time, I'll start about a week ahead of time.
