How likely would Epcot close on Memorial Day?

I was told by a cast member that Epcot will never close because it has 2 entrances and they can now open additional areas if they get near capacity.

Was it a bus driver?

I've spent, and still do, a lot of time at Epcot both onstage and backstage and I can't think of what additional spaces that CM was referring to.

I wonder if they are talking about the additional walkway that is often used on NYE? Or am I imagining that even existed (very possible I'm mixing it up)?

Though even without that, I still do not believe there is any chance whatsoever Epcot will close due to crowds on Memorial Day

I think I know what your're referring to. If it is, it's backstage, so what would guests do there?

Oh, nothing that I know of. Just making a guess as to what the CM was talking about. As I understand the way it works (and I could be wrong) the number of people allowed in is based on some formula that is centered around available square footage (acreage?) in the park and some other factors determined by the fire department for safety. So if they opened up that extra walkway it would technically add in more square footage, which would technically afford them the ability to allow in more people? Anyway, that's what I am guessing that CM was talking about (or they could well be talking about of their "you know what" too)

I am pretty sure he was talking about the pathways they now can open that go around Test Track to Mexico and Imagination to the festival pavilion. The 2nd entrance is also part of the formula. I am sure there is a capacity number, but they added capacity to prevent it.

I heard that Epcot is now a 10 on May 28th Memorial Day and our plan was to go from HS to Epcot for the last day of the flower festival. Wondering if it is a crowd 10, is it likely to be closed if we hop over around 3pm? Any thoughts? I know they can close the parks, but no clue when that is likely to happen.

No way will they close. We were at Disney Memorial Day week last year and it was like any other week in the summer. No unusually massive crowds. As a matter of fact, we even forgot it was Memorial Day.

Don't give it another thought.

probably zero chance. the only time Epcot ever closed for capacity was on December 31, 1999. On Memorial Day it probably isn't even that crowded.

Capacity is capacity. Doesn't matter how many entrances the park has. Epcot is just a very large park. It's possible they can expand capacity by opening areas that are typically backstage areas. but when the fire marshal says you're at capacity then you are.

How funny, we have the same plan. HS on Memorial day then hopping to Epcot for dinner and probably back to HS for fireworks.

A little off topic but I saw this and we will be there from May 19 till May 26 and we like to go from HS to Epcot as well. I saw another post and checked on it and the Friendship boats are not making that trip from May 7 for about six weeks as they do refurbishment to the bridge in front of the Swan and Dolphin. I understand they will run buses during this time from HS to Epcot but they may deposit you at the front gate instead of the IG entrance. Could effect ADR timing.

They WILL deposit you at the Front Gate instead of IG

To be clear, they run buses between DHS and Epcot all day long, every day of the year.

Right. The difference is while the boat is out they'll also be running buses between the Epcot resorts and DHS. Something they do not normally do. I think that's where folks are getting confused.

I was very impressed with the traffic control. They have it down to a science. While it was extremely crowded it moved very well. It was not a gridlock, at least not moving through WS. It was a blast. The crowd is an integral part of the energy of the night. We had an absolute blast. I can't wait to go back.
