I am just about to leave to pick up DS13 from soccer practice.

Since the fall season ended, they have indoor soccer practice on Friday nights from 8:30 to 10pm. I think it is a bit too late! He hates having to leave the house so late. So do I!

Is this normal?

DD13 has tumbling practice twice each week til 9 pm -- it's almost a half hour after that that we get in the door. And I feel that is too late for her. If her hw isn't done before practice, it doesn't get done at all...she's just too tired.

Even on a Friday, that would make for a very long day -- your DS has been going since school started this morning.

To be honest, no I don't think it's normal for kids that age. In fact all of our age levels up through 12th grade are done no later than 8pm ( which many parents complain is too late). I might be in the minority... But at least around here- that would not be accepted. Kinda feel bad for you guys, I am usually in bed by 10! Lol.

I am killing time trying to stay awake, my kids at ski/snowboard club. They get off the slopes at 10 pick up at midnight.

Yikes! and you have to drive that late too

I wonder if 6 am hockey practice would be harder :headache: I usually think so, but now idk.

My DS13 has Friday night basketball practice till 9. I don't mind that on Friday. My DD11 has dance once per week for fun with a friend but it is 8-9 Wednesday. Not so fond of that one! It's the first thing she has really asked to do though, so I didn't have the heart to say no because it was a little later than I would like.

He rides a bus to school which is maybe 10 minutes from my house. I would rather pick up at midnight then drop off at 6am

Wow, varsity high school football games don't even start until 7 pm here.
Little League and Outdoor soccer here go until sunset, which can be almost as late as 8:30 pm here.
10 pm would be on the late end for a 13 year old, but not 8 pm. Even as infants were couldn't get our 2 kids to sleep before 10 pm, or to sleep past 7 am.

My son always gets the 10pm - Midnight shift it seems. Both games and practice. Weekdays latest is 11pm though.

You get used to it or you get a great driving pool set up!;)

DS15 practices soccer til 7:30 for outdoor. Indoor we don't practice but he plays on Saturday nite & sometimes has games at 11pm. DD 12 can have show practice til 11pm during dress rehersal week.

Oh, yes our varsity football games also start at 7. I was only talking about practices... Sorry. But the football and basketball games are usually on Friday nights. JV games are always over by that time. Practices for all sports end by 8.

Well, I am extremely unhappy with the fact that my nine year old has travel soccer practice from 7:15-8:15 every Tuesday night. I know that doesn't seem ridiculously late to many, but her bedtime is 8:00pm as she has to be awake by 6:45am. Not to mention the fact that I have to bring her two younger siblings along to practice on the occasional Tuesday that my husband happens to be traveling for business. Ultimately, this results in the kids getting to bed after 9:00pm. Sleep is essential for children and the fact that this is not valued by many is just too bad.

Your practice time is ridiculous, even given the age of your child.

I have 3 kids (ages 7, 14, 17) and a total of 8 extracurriculars currently. Four of them are on the weekends. :thumbsup2 The latest those ones go is 5 pm on Saturday. For the weeknight ones, the latest ones end at 7:30 pm. :cool1:

DS and I just walked in from his indoor game. He plays Friday nights, and kickoff is between 9pm and 11pm (those ones are killer). He's a u16, and also practices with his club team from 6pm-8pm Saturday nights, and 8am-10am on Sunday mornings.

The older they get, the later the games and practices get.

Umm, yeah I would for sure have a problem with this. My 8 year old plays on a travel soccer team and practices from 4:30-6 on Tuesday evenings. She is in bed at 8:30 so that would irk me. I guess it is only once a week, but just seems late for such a young age. It is hard because you don't want to deny them the opportunity to play or participate in an activity, but that makes it hard. I can't even imagine having to wake her at 6:45. I literally drag her out of bed for school at 7:45, but she is my sleeper out of my three.

Dd13 plays JO volleyball. Her practice is 8-10pm on Tues. and Thurs. She's up at 6:30 for school.

DS had an 8:45 hockey game tonight (Friday). We got home a little before 11. I don't mind on a Friday night if we can sleep in, but weekdays are hard. His next practice during the week is 8:15 to 9:15. These late practices make it impossible for the 13/14-year-olds to get the sleep they need.

My ice skater daughter used to have team practice at 8:30 PM until 11 PM on a week night, and the rink was an hour away. She also had a lesson on Sunday mornings at 7 AM, at a rink 45 minutes away. Ice sports are notorious for crazy early/late ice times!

Dance daughter used to have dance conventions/competitions that ran until midnight, with an 8 AM start the next morning. Rehearsals on school nights usually ended around 9:30 PM.

PB's Wednesday practice is until 8:30, but her gym is 30 minutes away, so we generally get home around 9:00. Her bedtime is usually 8:00- 8:30 on other nights. She usually sleeps in the car (she's 6). She's been hinting at wanting to quit gymnastics for ice skating, and I've been purposely deaf to that for the moment.

My girls dance until 9 three days a week (and until 8 the other days). Dd9's basketball team practices once a week from 8 - 9:30. Indoor practice time is limited during the winter - coaches get what they get.

Is this during the week also, or just on Friday nights? There are many Friday nights when ds14 goes out after 8 pm anyway, and might come home after 10 (depending on his plans). On a weekend, I wouldn't blink an eye with a practice ending at 10.
