sleep during the summer?

This summer, dd has basketball practice 3 times a week so that means that she'll have to be up by 7:30 those days. I don't usually have a set time she has to get up during the summer--since dh and I are at work, she can sleep in as long as she wants as long as she gets her chores done. She doesn't usually sleep later than 10 or so.

I let him have at it. I remember that being one of the joys of my teenage hood - sleeping until 3 in the afternoon, and staying up until dawn. :teeth:

DS14 has to be at weight training for football 3 days a week at 7AM, and at swim team the other two days at 8. DD12 has swim team 4 days a week at 8. If it wasn't for those things, I'd let them sleep as long as they wanted. They're growing. :sunny:

My 14 yr. old is always the first one to wake up, the latest he'll sleep in is until about 10.

It's almost 1:30 in the afternoon and mine is still sleeping soundly.

What time did he go to sleep? :teeth: :teeth: I remember those days of sleeping in really late, it felt soooo good! :cloud9: :cloud9:

I don't have teens yet, but I remember when I was a teen I used to sleep in until noon

I woke my 14 year old up at 11:30 this morning. I told him I needed to check his pulse. LOL. Mostly, I just kind of missed him. I usually don't wake him up....it doesn't bother me at all. If I didn't get woken up by a 6 year old at 6:30am every morning, I'd stay up til 1 and sleep til 11 with my teenager. I'm a night owl!

Unless we have something scheduled she sleeps as late as she wants.

She went to sleep at 1 am, but she had some tests (arthrogram & MRI) at the hospital yesterday and was pretty wiped out.

Oh, no wonder! :goodvibes :goodvibes I hope all come back negative. :goodvibes

Generally no later than 11 am, but she usually gets up by herself by 10:30. DD, 14, is working part time and going to softball camp. I figure if she's able to sleep that late with everything going on in the house, she must really be tired.

Unless she has to be somewhere as late as she wants!

DS (15) is usually awake by 8:30-9:00 :confused3 I know, weird! It doesn't matter what time he goes to sleep which is usually after midnight when no school. In fact, he is waiting to hear me wake up so we can eat breakfast together. He doesn't like to eat alone. :rotfl:

Well DS usually doesn't sleep late. I wish he would. He needs to rest up for next school year. It is going to be a rough one! Now DD will sleep until 11am but usually not later. I don't care, it is summer! Shoot, most days I sleep until 9am!

My mom never ever let my sleep past 10 - 10.30.
Her reaction? If you can stay up late, you can get up early too! So, even when I came home at 5 or 6 am in the morning, I was always up by 10 or 10.30!

My motto now? Too much to do in life, I'll sleep when I'm dead!

My oldest is usually in bed by midnight - that's his curfew - I usually wake everyone around 10, if they are still asleep. He works in the summer so he's usually up by 8 anyway. My younger two are usually in bed by 11 and wake up around 9.

DS 19 goes to bed anywhere from 1 am - 6 am and gets up anywhere from 6 am - 3pm. It depends what friends he has over and what he has planned for the next day. I could never stay up all night and sleep most of the day, but sometimes teenagers do! I think they are nocturnal...LOL

NO WAY I would let my teenager sleep until afternoon! She has to keep "basically" the same hours as the rest of us, which means she's usually up by 7:30, I'd let her sleep until 9:00 if she was really tired.

I consider her to be an important member of the family, so she has her meals with us and spends time with us. She is an honor student, outstanding musician, successful academically and socially. The kids I know who sleep until the afternoon seem to live in their own worlds and not do so well. I cannot think of any good reason for a kid to be up all hours of the night.

I do volunteer activities with teens and the ones who keep regular hours seem to do the best in all aspects of their lives. I'm not talking about kids who work late during the summer (of course they should get their sleep), but kids who spend all night on the computer or chatting with friends seem a lot more likely to get into trouble.
