How last minute can you rent from David's DVC rentals?

I would like to rent points but since the reservation cannot be canceled I don't want to rent them too far in advance. I was thinking of applying to secure a rental about 4-6 months in advance for my trip. Would I have a difficult time securing something in this time frame? How long before a trip is it recommended to book through David's DVC rentals? I am on a wait list for a VGC direct purchase through Disney, want to go to Aulani next summer or the first week of next October, have no idea when I will get my VGC points so I am thinking about alternatives.

I can't answer for David, but the sooner you book (i.e. 11 months) the better your selection will be. If you wait for 4-6 months, there is a chance there will be no rooms available when and where you want to stay.

I am sure Aulani during the summer is a super popular time to go.

Availability is always the unknown...particularly with Aulani since it is too new for us to sense any real trends.

I can tell you that many people were unable to get the dates they wanted for summer 2012 when booking right at 7 months. October probably will not be as popular but if you have your heart set on any specific view (like Ocean or Standard), I would not bet on it being available inside of 7 months. You may be forced to compromise on view.

When trying to book Walt Disney World, at least there are 7 different resorts available. If one doesn't have a room, another will in most cases.

With Hawaii you only have one resort option. Book late at your own peril. And I definitely would NOT buy any plane tickets until you have a room...unless you are open to paying cash to stay elsewhere if the rental doesn't work out.

We don't have enough data for Aulani in Hawaii so we recommend 9 to 11 months at this time.

There was a report of someone said there was no availability at 7 months at Aluani for the week of New Years.

Most WDW times have choices 5-6 months out but that seems to drop by 4 months out.
