How is your iPod?

Well, my 5 year old disc player has finally stopped working and now I am speculating whether I should buy another disc player or an iPod, which I have been thinking about for a while. However, I have heard conflicting things about the iPods' battery time/power, fragility, etc. Is transferring/downloading songs a big project?

So the question is-- are those of you with iPods satisfied with them? Are they worth the price? Or should I just go with another clunky disc player and my CDs?

TIA!

The new Ipods no longer have the battery problem. It was a group of ipods designed a year ago or more that had the problems. Recently apple redesgined the ipod and the battery is supposed to be MUCH better. Also if you're considering I think your best bet is to go w/ a regular ipod rather than a mini, you'll get 11 to 16 gigs more space for only 50 more dollars. Just my opinion.

tricia.

I have one of the first generation iPods. The big ol' 5Gb ones. I have never had a problem with it at all. Now here are some questions for you, do you have a PC or a MAC? and what one are you planning one getting.

(I used to work for apple so my info if coming from someone that has seen all the good and bad from the ipod)

It used to be that the PC ones weren't the easiest to use b/c of the software, but now you get to use iTunes which is the program that is best (and super easy to load songs!!). The newer generation ones had a shorter battery life than the previous generations (mine), which boils down to a few hours. Where mine had like 8-9 hrs. But supposidly they corrected this issue with the last generation, I haven't worked there in almost a yr so I'm not 100% of the feedback of these new ones. it is definatly worth it to get an ipod, I LOVE MINE! I would recommend the extended warranty, b/c if something goes wrong with it it most likely will be after the 1 yr they give you. and the one issue with them is that you can't go in and fix them- if it dies or breaks there is a 99% chance you have to get a new one, with the warranty you get a free new one.

I don't work there anymore, so i'm sooo not trying to sell you anything!!!
:D :D

i hope you love it too!! hope I didn't confuse you too much!

I have the 4th gen. one and the battery power, when fully charged is roughly 10 - 12 hours, depending on the songs you've got in it, the amount of time allotted for the backlight, etc...

You can change the battery, just not by yourself. You can send the IPod to Apple or get it changed at a special store (you can find those online). The price for changing the battery isn't cheap (roughly around $100 without the warranty). The Battery lasts about 500 recharges, so the products' manual says (this means that if you use the full battery power, and recharge it, you can do that for 500 times). Of course, no one is going to use the full battery power without charging it so the battery power will last more than 500 times.

Get the warranty though. It's an extra $60 but it's worth it to get another covered year (I was told that the battery lasts 18 months, but like I said before, that may depend on the amount of use).

Anyway, go get it. I think it's worth it. Plus, you can get a ton of accessories, unlike other mp3 players that are only compatable with tape decks that plug into the earphone plug.

You might want to look into a Zen Jukebox (by Creative), I just got one after doing a lot of research on the iPod.

Even though they may have fixed the problem with battery on the iPod, one of the major drawbacks for me was having to send the iPod back to the company (or taking it to the store to have them change it) when the battery finally dies. The Zen has a lot of the same features, except with a longer battery life, and you can change the battery yourself. And even though they lowered the price of the iPod, a Zen is still cheaper. I bought a 30GB Zen for $239. A 20GB iPod is $299.

I'm not knocking the iPod, it is a good product and I know people who have them and like them, but I just feel that the Zen is just as good a product (if not better) for a lower price. The software that comes with it is easy to use too.

Just wanted to offer another alternative. At first I was all set to buy an iPod too, then after doing research and looking at a variety of reviews on different websites, I decided on the Zen and I'm very happy with it. (Whatever you decide, I think you should get rid of the clunky CD player, so much easier to carry just one item that can hold thousands of songs!!!)

I have a second gen 10GB iPod and it's still going strong after 2+ years. I've dropped and abused it, yet it keeps going strong. I'm a big fan of Apple Products (check out my siggy) because they just hold up so much better than other products. Plus, they are so simple to use.

I LOVE my iPod! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone :) :) :)

There were some battery issues on the earlier models, (though touch wood for luck I've not seen any problems with my own) but these have been sorted with the latest generation.
