We have always gone in August and at Christmas/New Years, although this year we also went the beginning of April. Due to heat, hurricanes, cold and crowds, we are now re-thinking about going when DD, now in college, finishes winter semester at school. This would be around May 10th or so. What are the crowds like that time of year? and how is the weather?

The crowds should be fairly light late May it is a good time to go - temperatures will be starting to go up at this time of the year, you will probably find that it is in the mid 80s - but you will not get the high humidity of August.
Generally it is a good time to go.

Agree!! We often go in early May (this year, it'll be the first week) and the crowds are "manageable" and the weather just fine!!

HI!

I went in May in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003.
I regret to infrom you it got increasingly crowded every year. The last time I was there (May 15-23, 2003), all of the major rides had 90 minutes waits.
On a plus side the wx was PERFECT, no rain at all.

We went in May of this year, the first week, which also happened to be the week the Happiest Celebration kicked off, we found it a great time to go, the crowds were not bad at all, we never waited real long for any ride, the weather was great, if not a bit chilly, well not chilly but not hot hot. We thought it was great, low crowds, great weather, we only had rain once and it was at night so it wasn't that bad, I think May is a great time to go.

I think the crowds increase as May goes on but the not as bad as mid June-mid August. WDW reported an increase in crowds for 2005 and expect an increase in 2006! Basically getting to the parks when before they open, have a touring plan, and return to the hotel for the mid aftertoon-early -early evening and you'll be fine whatever the crowd level! Enjoy. We are going May 20-30 and are planning on dealing with crowds and heat but, because I'm a planning freak it should be fine.

May was absolutely beautiful when we went! Not to hot, normal expected rain shower. The crowds were very manageable as well and the Flower and Garden festival at Epcot is beautiful. One thing to note-Mother's day weekend can be quite busy, especially at Epcot with special brunches during the Flower and Garden Festival.
