DH just got the news that he will be going to Korea in January :sad2: We were planning on going to WDW in May, but he probably will not be able to come home on leave until June. We have three small children and we will be staying 10 days, so my question is, is it going to be horrible in June or will we be able to make it "Magical" anyway? I would like DH to have fun on this trip because he will have to go back to Korea for 6 more months when it's over.

Any tips on beating the heat and crowds for June will be greatly appreciated :) TIA!

I have been in June twice, the last time was when we took our son for the first time in 2004. I was also 4 months pregnant. Yes, it is hot and you will sweat but we made sure that we had water breaks and we bought one of those fans that blows water out. If you have access to a Disney Store near you, they have those small personal fans on the clearance and the additional 50% off!!! They are really good for cooling off as well!

Since you are going with small children are you planning on taking nap/rest breaks back at the hotel? We did this and we were all totally fine.

Yes, those spray fans are awesome! June is hot, but as long as you TAKE A BREAK at some point and rest your feet and get out of the sun, maybe even take a nap or lounge in a pool, you can reenergize yourselves.

To get the best out of your trip, you might wanna look into http://www.tourguidemike.com He's great and will inform you about which parks will be busier on which days. Then he'll give you the best tips about how to not wait in line so long. I've also heard of good books that give out similar information, but I don't know their titles. There is a lot of advice to get out there!

The Dis will help a lot too.

Have fun! My husband's in Iraq and we did a pre-deployment trip. It was awesome! I hope your husband isn't gone too long and that while he's in Korea, that time flies!

Hugs!

Crowds in June increase as the month goes on, and more and more school let out for the summer. The first week of June is really not too bad, crowd-wise. Also, it will be very hot and humid, so plan accordingly. Take pool breaks in the afternoon and wear cool clothing.

Thanks for all the advice. We probably will not go to the hotel for afternoon breaks because my kids will fall asleep on the bus and not want to sleep at the hotel. Also, DH will fall asleep at the hotel and never wake up again, then the whole rest of the day will be shot :lmao: ! That is why we eat TS meals for lunch almost every day. I think I might take the advice and try Tour Guide Mike this time, I hope his advice will cut down on the line time a bit.

In my one-time experience, WDW in June is RAINY. VERY RAINY. The week we went in 2002, it rained every day, all day long. It was pretty miserable actually. I much prefer May!!

We always end up going in June and we always have a really great time. We've used www.tourguidemike.com & www.buildabettermousetrip.com and have never waited more than 20 minutes for anything unless we got to a show just a bit too early. Tour Guide Mike is an online subscription service with great information to help you develope your own touring plans. Build A Better Mouse Trip does custom touring plans for you.

We generally add a water park day every couple of days, just to bring our core body temperature down. We also tend to schedule sit-down meals for lunch, rather than dinner, to let us escape the heat of the day.

We also try to hit shows w/ Air Conditioning mid-day: Festival of the Lion King, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Ellens Energy Adventure, The American Adventure, It's Tough To Be A Bug for mid-day.

We just plan on spending money for bottled water & sodas throughout the day. My husband insists that a Mickey Ice Cream bar per day is essential but I can't verify that with any truly scientific studies. ;)

Everyone advises going back to the hotel mid-day and we almost never do this.

Do Fantasy Land early in the morning - it turns into a reflector oven as the day goes on...there's just a lot of cement there.

Also, we strictly follow the philosophy of avoiding EMH parks in favor of less crowded parks and it seems to work out well for us.

June is hot and humid, can't be avoided. But better to go then stay home in my opinion. It usually rains every day, but only for 30-60 minutes usually-the 2-4pm storm is pretty predictable. It does not rain all day unless there is a front or major storm around. I really suggest the midafternoon breaks, the heat fries you. Dh and I nap in the afternoon and head back to the parks in late afternoon/early evening. Take water bottles and drink, drink, drink! Wear lightweight, light colored clothing-stick with cotton, linen, or wicking type fabric. Earlier is better in June for crowds, doesn't make much difference in weather though. May is somewhat cooler and less humid, but not much. Check out the averages for May and compare to June, it will give you a better idea. Here are the May averages, just change the month to June on top. We prefer offseason anymore, but we're still heading back in June '07 for our anniversary-Disney in heat is better than no Disney!

You have some very good ideas! If we go in the summer, I'll definately use some of these.

Thanks for everyone else's responses. We might end up going in September if the Army lets him go then. The baby will be almost a year old by then, I think it's more fun when they can walk. One thing I hate about going later is that it'll take that much longer for the trip to get here!! We'll just have to wait and see.
