So I have been away from the DL board for a while, and couldnt get the search to work. Whats the latest on the new monorail? Is it up and running yet?

Red monorail seems to be fine, it will sometimes come out during the night to shuttle guest.

Blue Monorail is currently on testing. You will see it drive around but no one riding it.

We saw Blue this weekend! The purple tint on the windows was very cool! Too bad that red only runs when it's cooler than 82 degrees....

So did they take delivery of another one? Or is there just the one new model?

Monorail Orange has already arrived in the back area. At the moment, there was suppose to be a monorail Purple as well but that this moment, the order is cancelled after sooo many problems happened with Monorail Red.

This may sound like a really stupid question, but I have to ask anyway.

The last time we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel was in October '06 (usually stay on Harbor) and the monorails weren't running at all at the time. Part of the reason we chose DLH was that we wouldn't have to walk all of DTD to get into the parks and the ever-present-planner I am didn't know they were closed.

Therefor, I must ask as a sanity check. If they are upgrading the monorails, what does that mean in terms of shuttling from DLH/DTD to Disneyland itself? Is it always functioning, just on weekends, just at night, etc?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I want to be prepared to tell everyone in our party they have to walk it BEFORE we get there. Otherwise I may not make it home... :scared1:

We rode monorail red 2 Fridays ago during the day. Frankly, I didn't see much difference between that one and the old one.

Ghostly - If the monorail is down, you are definitely walking to and from the parks. It really isn't very far - 2 city blocks max. (We GPS'd with Tracky.com from the entrance to the Mickey and Friends parking structure, since we walk it all the time and it's 1/2 mile.)

They defintely took delivery of the new blue one. It's as spiffy on the outside as red. I remember reading somewhere that Blue was the one that got sent back because part of the undercarriage or something obviously important got torn up in testing. Red was fixed before it got delivered.

Can't wait to ride Red sometime soon! I'll be glad when the temps lower a bit more, so they will have it on the track all day. Why they didn't build these with air conditioning and better ventilation, I just don't understand....

We were there two weeks ago. The monorails were running for the most part. One day they did close them for about an hour around 1 pm because they were testing the blue monorail -- not a good time to test in my opinion as people wanting a break got to walk. They also close for an hour in the evenings for the fireworks.

I would tell people if its there it will be nice but don't count on it.

The walk really isn't that bad except at the end of the day when it seems longer -- kind of like the expanding hallways in the hotels at the end of the day. :thumbsup2

Here are a few pictures from our ride during MM on our last visit. There were hardly any people in line. In fact, we passed up a ride in the front of the old Mark V for a ride in the front of the new Mark VII...
