My wife and I are planning a trip to DL in December, and since we're hitting Vegas as the 2nd part of the trip, we've decided to save some money and stay off property. As best I can tell, about the nicest thing within a walk is the Hyatt. Anyone with experience here?

The Orange County Hyatt in Anaheim is fairly nice although not as nice as some of the other Hyatts we have stayed in. We stayed there 2 years ago and the rooms seemed very dark. However, I've been told that they just finished a major rehab to the hotel.

Yes the Hyatt did undergo a renovation and is very nice. I liked the hotel and thought the customer service was awesome!! As far as walking distance, I would not attempt that..it is a ways away from the parks. They do offer a free shuttle at the hotel to the parks which runs twice an hour I believe!

We have stayed at the Hyatt OC many times and it is a great hotel! We are pretty picky about hotels and would not hesitate to stay there again. The rooms were fine before but now are very nice - they completed a huge renovation of the entire hotel (rooms, lobby, restaurants) about a year ago. It is right across the street from Target which is nice to stock up on bottled water, etc. The shuttle does run twice an hour and is very reliable. There is a full service Starbucks in the lobby which we love, and the restaurants are pretty good. As you've already noticed, the rooms are incredibly cheap! (Literally 1/4 the cost of the GCH last I checked.) Great service, good housekeeping, clean, just a really nice hotel. And if it is just you and your wife and you don't mind a little exercise you could walk to DL just fine - it's just a little over a mile down Harbor. Have fun!

Kind of threw me seeing someone else with my nickname. :)

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt when they were nearing completion of the huge renovation last year. We were only there for 2 nights, and didn't spend much time in the room, but it was really nice. We stayed on the 15th floor. (It was a couple of weeks after an earthquake, so I didn't fall asleep easily the first night...thinking about how we were on the 15th floor of a hotel pretty much made of glass and "what if there's another earthquake" thoughts going through my mind.) Picture overload ahead:

This is the shuttle pick-up area, just outside of the Starbucks in the lobby. The shuttle was great. Bigger than most. It does share with another hotel -- the Crowne Plaza across the street. I always took the first/last shuttles of the day and never had an issue with overcrowding.

Wow thanks for the great info everyone, and for the awesome pics Deej. yes, this is a first for me too, as I've never run across another Deej:) I just cant see how we can go wrong with the Hyatt. I can get an Executive Suite for $150 a night, vs the DL Hotel for $420! We did the DL Hotel last time, and while it was convenient, it's not THAT convenient;)
