Curious to know from those of you who have done both, what the differences in both the HM and POTC rides from Orlando are compared to the Cali versions. I have only done the Orlando versions and am looking forward to the Cali versions.

All I'm aware of is the facades of the HMs are different. Is this the only difference? Thanks in advance.

The biggest difference for me, beside the facade was the fact that the stretching room in the HM in WDW only appears to be going down, where in Disneyland you actually do go down, like an elevator. I wouldn't have even noticed it at all had my BF not pointed out that there was no break in the floor from the door that you enter through to allow the room to be lowered. Pretty neat trick on Disney's part.

I am probably biased just because I am a DL girl but I liked ours better than WDW. Ours just seems creepier, I think it could be the way the que goes through a graveyard (at least when the park is busy it does) We were there in January and it seemed a bit worn. I know they are either starting or have already started a major refurb so I can't wait to try it again when we go again. There are certain scenes, especially at the beginning that are different as well.

I think you will still enjoy it though. Plus I am not sure when you are coming, but in the fall they change it over to Haunted Mansion Holiday with a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. While I love the original, its one of my favorite attractions to go on once it has been transformed - so cute!

Have fun at DLR!! :cool2:

POTC @ DL has more character, longer ride and just better :) Plus you can eat at Blue Bayou and watch the boats go by. We had a water side table last time and I enjoyed waving to the guests. It's fun when you wave like you know someone heh

When you leave the stretch room at Walt Disney World you enter a very short queue to board the ride vehicals. You can see the DoomBuggies when you exit the stretch room. Once you are in your doom buggy you ride through the hallway of portraits (at Disneyland this is the hallway you encounter after exiting the stretch room). After the portraits there is a library and a dark area with a couple of giat spider webs and a giant dayglo spider. After that point is is almost the same. After the graveyard scene the track takes a different turn for the hitchhiking ghosts and you see the miniature woman "Hurry Back!!!) above your doombuggie. Then you disembark.

We are long time Disneyland people and prefer our version of the ride to Disneyworld's but the outside of Florida is a little cooler. Also agree the Nightmare version is great!!!!!!!

Wow...I love details like this. Thanks. Come to think of it i don't remember the woman saying "hurry back" at MK either.

Question: I don't remember at MK (WDW) the lady who (i believe) is offing her several husbands (i think they keep disappearing from paintings) & then it's only her (with i think a hatchet) smiling. Is this an effect only in DL (but not at MK) or did i just miss this clever effect when i rode the MK Haunted Mansion?

Thanks. :thumbsup2

The woman (Little Leota) does say "hurry back" at MK. But you see her while you're still in your vehicle. She passes by overhead.

The bride with the hatchet and disappearing husbands (more precisely, their heads disappear) are fairly recent additions to the DL Haunted Mansion. There was some talk that they would be added to the MK version during this summer's refurb, but that's appearing to be less and less likely.

major differences is the walking part in the begining (makes it much scarier)in our seance room the leota crystal ball floats, there is the crazed bride overlay. The more subtle difference is a very superior sound system.

I've finally gotten my DD(9) to enjoy HM at WDW. Now I'm afraid the DL version will freak her out.

The DL versions elevators do go down. You exit through a longer room that goes under the railroad tracks to the main show building behind. The front facade was built around 1963 but the ride bldg. was not finished until 1967. This is one of the last attractions that Walt worked on before he died.

The WDW version was built as one large building and the elevators do not move but the walls and ceiling rise.

That's right....the heads disappear. My whole family actually found it to be funny (even my 7 y/o). (& to Sleeping Becca...it was done in a cute / tounge in cheek way....not a goulish way).

So I guess i need to put the HM ride (along with Pirates & SM) as rides that are superior at DLR (as opposed to WDW).

Thanks Brian. :thumbsup2

I am a WDW girl, for sure. Been 17 times. 18th trip in August. Anyway, I just got back from DL. Friday, have not been since I was 4. Boy, did I love it!!:cloud9: The HM, and POTC. Win, over the versions in WDW. Totally better!!I loved fantasyland! Mr Toads wild ride was there!! That use to be one of my favorite rides in WDW. But, of course you know they took it out. But, I got to see it again! :goodvibes I am a bit sad. I only got to spend 2 days at DL. I miss it now. But, i do have my trip to WDW to look forward to.:wizard:
