If my wife is cranky, I do not want to screw up and make things worse by getting stuck in traffic. Thinking of hitting a water park during the day. we will be at VWL on a Friday night. So we can skip the drive until we arrive on friday for Blizzard Beach.

That's your call. I typically get tired after a Water Park. I also am the type that likes to check in, get settled and then go out. So, I would be the opposite of your plans.

VB has a great beach and you can ride jet skis. For water, there's more to do at VB than WDW.

Also, when last there, they were giving free swimming lessons to the kids. Nice perk.

There are a few different routes you can try..

The Disney preferred method is to take the Beeline to I-95 and then go south...

I personally like taking the Beeline to the A1A and then following the A1A all the way down... The drive is about 20-30 mins longer, but it is much more scenic...
