How is the DIS bankrupting you?

It isn't really items that the DIS causes me to buy, it is more dining reservations or experiences.

I hear about great dining experiences people have them I'm like oh that sounds so fun, I need to go book that.

Well, I have always been a frustrated artist, so the Dis made me try out new mediums - t-shirts (that we still wear) and custom magic bands (that become Christmas ornaments). Very glad we did the coordinated t-shirt thing because the pictures are so fun.

Cross-body bags: I was a fan well before Dis, but I probably would not have bought the LeSport Sac ones were it not for here.

FrogTogs: We babywear, so had them anyway and love them.

Golf skorts: I can point to the poster and post. These are now a good chunk of my summer wardrobe. I got running skirts too, but those are actually for running.

Packing Cubes: Again, I can name that post. Getting great milage out of these, most recently for a San Fransisco trip.

Keens: Had been debating, but was pushed over the edge here. GREAT decision.

External batter charger: Decided I needed one at an outdoor event, but looked here for brand advice. Similar with the outlet extender.

Target: Shopped there before, but not in a savvy way. The saving tips from here funded all the above, and then some.

Many of the other things, like Vera B and Pandora, are not my style.

I made the mistake of looking up the Skechers everyone raves about. My older daughters, 11 and 12, wear the same shoe size I do and they are constantly borrowing my shoes. I've taken to hiding them, which is sort of sad. But there a few pair of the Skechers I thought were really cute.

Skecher Go Walks - This was a bust. Got some, but don't think they have enough support for all day walking (bad feet), so I guess I'll just be wearing them to run errands.

I am with you there! I really don't know why so many people like them. No arch support at all. I really don't like the feeling of walking on pillows. It seems to throw my whole gait off. My feet, calves, and hips are tired after being in them a few hours. I could not wear them to Disney.

This is the best thread ever!!. I signed up for an account just so I could post and say that. I am an obsessive planner.

Thank you! And Welcome! You've come to the right place!

:wave2:
:welcome:

:rotfl2:I've single-handedly kept amazon in business over the last 3 months buying stuff I "must have/need" for our upcoming DCL Alaskan cruise. Amazon literally delivers to my house EVERY SINGLE DAY! (along with various other websites :rolleyes1). I am definitely in need of some sort of intervention I'm sure.

Yes! This! This has been my life (and the reason for this post). The other day DH said (paired with The Look of course) "Another day, another package." Uh, maybe the cat ordered it? :rolleyes1

CRACK... ME... UP... !!! Great post, very funny! I, too have bought things that I thought were "absolute necessities" to my park experience, only to find, alas, not so!!!
You have definately made my evening, I'll be chuckling about this for days!
Sparkle on, @PrincessWithABlaster! Sparkle on!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I thought perhaps it would make someone other than me laugh. :teeth:

Yes! Well said!

So I came to the DIS when we were planning our last trip because MDE and MB were just beginning to get rolled out in the parks. Of course, Disney was all rainbows and unicorns about their latest venture. I wanted information from the people who had actually used the systme in the parks. I needed to know how it was going to affect my planning. And down the rabbit hole I went! My must haves for the trip ended up being few because my family had never been to Disney before and they just wouldn't understand the why. (Now they get it!) :cool1:

Kavu Rope Bag- I didn't want to take a full on back pack into the parks. This cross body bag was the answer! I love it. We frequent Busch Gardens Williamsburg, so it's my go to park bag now.

Portable Cell Phone Charger- I purchased one for about $25. It was a life saver in the parks. My husband thought it was silly and that we wouldn't really need it. The sheepish look on his face the first time he asked to use it during our trip was priceless. Now it's a staple in my purse any time we're going to be out all day.

Target Red Card- I signed up for this solely to be able to purchase Disney Gift Cards at 5% off.

Disney Visa Card- I also signed up for this solely to get the $200 gift card if you used to for however much in purchases in the first 3 months. I got it inthe mail and promptly purchased our 5 day park tickets from Undercover Tourist with it. I was also able to get a coule of $50 gift cards because I was able to get 2 of the other families traveling with us to sign up for the card, too.

Pandora Bracelet- I had known about these for a while. After seeing the 2015 bead last year, I had to have a bracelet. During our trip we went to Uptown jewelers and I bought 3 more beads.

Packing Cubes- I briefly thought about these, but then realized they would send my OCD into overdrive and I just couldn't do that to myself.

I think the DIS is a great resource and the people on here have lots of great ideas to make being in the parks fun. After our trip, my husband finally got why I was so meticulous and thanked me for putting in so much time to make sure we (there were 16 of us) all got to do the things we wanted to do and had a great trip. I am off to check out sparkle skirts because they look like something I may need. :rolleyes1

Oh man. Why do I keep up with this post??? Now I think I need these Keens! LOL

My kids had Keens when they were little. I don't love the look of them for myself, but I love the idea that they can get wet and dry easily. My plan was to just carry around flip flops in a backpack and change for the water rides (I actually hate water rides but have decided to do Splash this time as I'm not sure I've actually ever been on it). But if the Keens really are comfortable for a full day of walking in the parks, I may have to consider it......

My husband wears Keens and swears by them. He wore them every day, all day in the parks. They worked great. Like you, I'm not in love with the look of them for me.

I'm glad to see the comments about Skechers not having the arch support. I have stupid high arches and my feet ache like mad after a day at the parks of I don't have the right arch support. Heck, they hurt even if I do have arch support.

I
I think my Disney shopping problem haven't gotten any worst except that since I don't wear my Disney clothes in my everyday life I normally end up forgetting what I have bought or have and buy more than I really need :rolleyes1. Don't tell DH.

I have this "problem" as well! I do wear some Disney shirts at home, but I am obsessed with buying or making new ones for our trips, then forgetting what I already have!

  • I can't be convinced of the value of packing cubes...but I did decide that the kiddos clothes MUST be packed in ziplocs, one outfit per day. In color coded ziplock...purple for her and orange for him...but since I got value packs of the ziplock, what to do with the other 60 gallon sized orange and purple bags after our trip (yes, the value pack was 40 of each). Mind you, these are not my kids, but my niece and nephew, so this also involves convincing their Mamma that she MUST pack this way.
Lol! And I thought it was hard to get my own hubby or kids on board ;)

Love this thread!

No regrets or waste on mine (IMHO :)) but I definitely did or bought things I'd never have thought of
- coordinating t-shirts (not MATCHING, mind you because "those are cheesy" but I convinced family that COORDINATING was different)
- frog toggs
- Vera cross-body
- Mini M&Ms and Mentos Gum so I could use the containers for my kids' and cousins' pressed penny coin holders. The kids didn't mind helping to eat those M&Ms to empty them out for me!
- ziplocs for packing (I'm staying away from the packing cube thread!)
- customized autograph books and colored, clickable sharpies (vs the 50 other sharpies I already had)

Next trip I'll add items to trade with Jawas (and probably the packing cubes!)

Because of DIS I have bought:

Frogg Toggs - worked well in the August heat
Body Glide - Hubby was thankful
Brita water bottles - I use these daily now!
DisneyBounding - only did it once, but so cute!
Moleskin - this really saved a trip for me
2 pairs of shoes - hence the need for moleskin

And now that I've read this thread....I NEED to buy Sparkle Skorts.

Thanks DIS!

The ony things I've started using thanks to the DIS is anti chafe gel/body glide and Crocs. I had considered getting an owner's locker, but instead we made our own since w3 drive and don't mind bringing it along.

I think that's the thing. I have VERY flat feet. Basically no arch at all, so they're lovely for me. But I can see where they'd be problematic for those with high arches.

My husband wears Keens and swears by them. He wore them every day, all day in the parks. They worked great. Like you, I'm not in love with the look of them for me.

I have Keen Whispers that I bought for my original trip, but I recently bought Keen Rose, which is a little bit more feminine-looking. They are even more comfortable than my Whispers, so much so that I bought another pair in leather.

I forgot to mention my crossbody bag. I bought it for my last trip because it had a holder on the side for my Brita bottle (long-time user. I have them all over the place). I was grateful for this bag when we got soaked on PoTC and my brand new phone (with all my park photos on it) stayed bone dry inside. Note: I would not have lost any photos as they were all auto-uploaded to OneDrive as I took them, but still. I was glad the phone was saved.
