How is the bathroom situation during Christmas week? I was wondering about my toddler

We will do Disney from 23 to 27th or so. DD is only 3 and although she is potty trained she will not be able to stand in line for an hour. Should I pack a porta potty for her?

Do you mean a porta potty that you will use in the parks? I can't figure out how that would work!! The restaurants and resorts all have bathrooms - even when I've been during crowded times, I don't think I've ever had more than a five or so minute wait. The restrooms in the parks are certainly busy, but I can't imagine an hour wait.

Plus, how would you clean a porta potty????

Assuming they still fit, could pull ups be an option? Don't know if she would be agreeble to it, but when my DD was a young 3 we had her wear pullups at Disneyland as a "just in case" measure.

Pack a porta-potty? I hope you mean one to use in the restroom...

Just take frequent bathroom breaks (even when your daughter says she doesn't have to go, have her try!) and you'll be fine. No need to lug a bulky plastic toilet around (besides, where would you keep it? Where would you put it on rides?)

many times i have let a "holding" toddler go ahead of me in line. I would never be offended if a mother asked me if her small child could go ahead and have indeed had that to happen. First line of deffence however should be as others have said and take frequent breaks and do not wait for her to tell you she has to go. Also, watch the caffiine. Lots of kids never get soft drinks untill vacation and caffine drinks can certainly iincrease the frequency of bathroom stops. I would hesitate to put her back in pull ups if she is completly trained but that is an option too.

A porta potty is foldable and is the size of a dinner plate and has disposable liners. We use it when we go to the park. The liners are thrown away so no cleaning.

Wouldn't you still have to go into a restroom to use it? And to empty it? You wouldn't throw the liner and contents into a trash can, would you???

I'm really interested in this - I just can't see where in the park you would be able to use this that you wouldn't have access to a restroom at the same time. I can't visualize having a potty on the floor of the restroom with people standing in line, then waiting to empty it into a toilet. Is that how you do it???

I would just make frequent potty breaks. We go to WDW at that time every year. The lines in the bathrooms are not all that bad. Like Jordans' mom, I have let little kids go ahead of me to use the potty plenty of times. Just make sure you pack a change of clothes in a ziplock "just in case" if you don't want to use pull-ups. Also, most people are fine with you getting out of an ride line to use the potty and having someone hold your place.

Like other people have said, plan breaks. There are also restrooms that are tucked away that are not frequently used. At epcot when you are walking in from the buses there is a rest room on the right before you get to the gate. Thats a good place to stop. And also behind the Journey to Imagination building. That one is almost always empty. IN contrast, the restrooms near Spaceship earth are usually more crowded. Look on your park maps and prepare ahead of time.

There are so many bathrooms, everywhere. I see no use or sense in carring around a toliet. you should have no problem, just plan for it and ask your DC every so often, "Do you have to go to the bathroom?" I am not sure how carring around a toliet would make it any better? Do you just put the toliet anywhere and just let her go when she needs to? I hope it is not like that, that could be so horrifing for your DC, not to mention others that would see it.

FWIW - I have never heard of an hour long potty line? I would also not bring a potty with me to WDW, we had a training potty in our van for outings and long car rides but I can't imagine using one in the parks, YMMV.

We have been with toddlers and recently trained toddlers a few times, don't worry. The only times we have found lines are right after a show, like FOTLK or Epcot shows, avoid the closest restroom or go right before and you will be fine. For example after BATB the line for the restroom between the theater and TOT is huge but if you head left after leaving BATB there is a another restroom and it usually dosen't have a line. Just have your guidemap handy and have your toddler go often.

FWIW, anytime I hear a toddler obviously in distress - mommy I need to go now - I let them go in front of me if it helps.
