How is the A/C In Attractions Now?

We talked with several CM's who obviously can't say anything but agreed with us when we mentioned budget cutting due to the shanghai issue.

FWIW, one of the first things the organization that I work for did to save money was to adjust the thermostats so that the indoor temps aren't as cool in the summer or as warm in the winter. I don't mind it being cooler in the winter, but I hate it being close to 80 in the summer......

I was just there last week and for the most part in stores and restaurants it seemed adequate. There were a few attractions I recall thinking it was much hotter than I expected it to be. Dinosaur was one and Winnie the Pooh was another. I recalled it being cooler once inside these attractions in the past. And I usually travel there in May.

If any of you are there now how is the a/c in the attractions? Last time we were there in May and the air conditioning could barely be felt and chillers were off in the water fountains. There was no relief to be had from the 90+ degree heat. I know quick serve has free ice water, but it was served in tiny cups and you barely got one gulp, lines were huge and it was only practical if ordering a meal. Yes, you had to wait on the line.

It amazes me how people can say get ice water at quick serve. I thought then of going to First Aid but I didn't know if it would be better. We just left the parks. Thanks so much.
How long has it been since you were there?
I've always frozen in the air conditioning at Disney. Even on our trip 2 weeks ago. But I freeze in most all air conditioning. I keep a heater going at work (it's going right now). So I guess I feel cold when others don't normally

And at least the past 2 years the water at the QS locations is served in the small beverage cups, well more than a single gulp. And in most places, they were out for the taking, no line to stand in at all.

Wow. This thread is truly disheartening to read. Lack of very cold A/C as a relief from the Florida heat would stop me from attending immediately.

I get overheated easily, but my one consolation was stepping into well air-conditioned buildings and attractions.

I'm going to pay close attention to this now next week...

We were there last September through November, we are PT residents. The a/c in September with all that humidity was fine. There were no water cups out for the taking though at any of the quick serve then in MK on all the days we were there. We were there in May & June about 3 years ago. The a/c then was not at all comfortable and the same in May a few years before that. I went to Guest Relations to file a complaint it was so bad, especially the fountains.

Drinking fountains? I've never known those to be cold (nor are they drinkable with that tap water ;) )

You didn't see cups out at Casey's? I guess they could run out and you walked in while they were refilling but we always find them out on the counter to take there.

We are back in a couple of weeks and I'll see if I freeze or feel comfortable indoors. I know if I'm comfortable the rest of the world is hot.

Unless things have changed, the ice water I've been given is the same size as a small soda...I'd guess 16 oz. cups...which is certainly more than a gulp.

This time of year especially, I'd actually enjoy the A/C turned up (warmer) a bit. It doesn't bother me as much now, but I used to find the contrast of going in and out of cold to hot/humid would wear me down after awhile. Don't get me wrong: I don't want it hot in attractions, but even high-70's and low humidity would feel good coming in from 90+.

while I don't want to be uncomfortable in the attractions - I'm kind of relieved to hear this. I've always felt frozen to death in most indoor places including restaurants (especially restaurants), attractions, and the like. A happy medium is what I would strive for. Air conditioning doesn't need to be set at 60 degrees but by the same token, 80 or 90 inside is a bit much too. I can't imagine that's truly the case though. Surely not. Anyway, I'll send a report - I'll be there Sunday. Wahoooooooooo!

Drinking fountains need the chiller for the water to be acceptable, my dh was involved with facilities mgt. over 20 years and the chillers were never turned on. I carry my own filter bottle. No they are never cold, but neither should the water coming out be hot. It would have been better if they directed that to the sinks in the bathrooms, then they could re-post the hand washing directions sponsored by Sparkle, wash your hands with warm water. :rotfl2:

We went to the indoor sit down restaurant quick serves like Pecos Bills etc. I never even thought of Casey's as a possibility, to be honest we've never eaten there and I think of it more as a snack bar. Thank you I will look there this time. We leave on Saturday, no return date set yet.

They were the kids meal cups, more like 8 oz mostly ice.
The ones I've seen were like PP, the 16 oz cups. Or what ever size is considered the regular cup, it's not the small kids cup but there are larger cups too

Even if it's the small ones, you can get all you want and dump them in your water bottle

This hearty New Englander is looking forward to some heat in 28 days !

It was the definitely the kids meal cup, I've seen them every year since 1986 with a break between 1998-2002, if we're in Pinocchio's again I'll ask for a bunch of them thanks.

Well that is a bit disappointing to hear. However I guess to look at the bright side, I read recently that going from excessive heat to extreme cold a/c is bad for your health. Something that was news to me. Apparently it puts extreme stress on the body?

I didn't even know about the free water (albeit small - who cares - it's free) at the quick serve places. Good to know !!!!!!!!!!!!

When we were there last week the CMs were reminding people to keep hydrated and let them know they could get free water at any quick service. This was on rides and attractions. There were also water and lemonade stations set up at resort and restaurants. I thought it was great they were making a point of telling people.

The AC should be able to keep up with the heat if it is set low enough. It sounds like they are setting the temp higher. Is it to save money? I hope they get it adjusted correctly for July and Aug! People will be fainting left and right.
I am assuming that you are not from the south. A/Cs cannot keep up with the heat when there are openings to the outside (which most of the queues have). I really do not think it was uncomfortable while we were there. Were you freezing when you entered the buildings? No. Were you uncomfortably hot? No. It was fine and not really an issue IMO.

These buildings have enormous systems capable of (and designed to) cool the attractions despite having open areas to the outside.

There are air curtains and zoned systems specifically setup to manage the temperatures.

If it isn't cool inside, there's either a maintenance issue that should be a priority to be fixed or an intentional cost cutting measure. I'm hoping it's not the latter.

I have lived in FL and I have been to Disney in both July and Aug. One time there was a heat wave in Aug when we were there. We were advised it was not safe to be outside due to the high heat indexes but went to the parks anyway. Everywhere indoors was refreshingly cool, noticeably cold, wonderfully cold, the kind where you just go Ahhhhhhhhhh. Not unpleasant or warm or "room temp" at all, it was cold and it felt great. Even the places with outside openings. If the AC could keep up during that, I think it could keep up during anything.
