Wondered if anyone has heard how SSR is selling with the recent Disney turmoil and the Comcast bid. I know a couple of weeks ago I backed out of a fabulous BWV resale because of hesitations with the company. I am back on board with another contract and waiting to pass ROFR. Obviously, we all want the demand to remain high as it affects all of us in terms of resale values etc.

If this board is a small sample of how SSR is doing, then I'd say sales continue to move well for SSR!

Chatting with my most excellent DVC guide when doing an add-on (BWV) earlier in the week, and she tells me that touring has been in high gear (even more so during Feb break), and sales have been brisk for SSR, both new contracts and add-ons. (ouch, run-on sentence from h*** there; sorry folks) I have always found her information to be frank and truthful in the past, and see no reason to discount her take on it as a sales pitch (since we were already buying more BWV anyway).::yes::

pumpkinboy, what did you buy for an add-on at BWV? What is your use year? I am on a waiting list for 75 more points, March use year. My guide was a bit pessimistic about my chances but put me on the list anyways.

Friends who I sent down to OKW last week told me last night they are now proud SSR owners. The husband was put off a little bit by the Comcast announcement and didn't commit while down there. They thought it over and have now taken the plunge.

It seems from the description and artwork I've for SSR that it is going to be a bit more of an upscale place and perhaps not as kid friendly as some other DVC resorts. I know they will have a pool w a kid area, but will it match the pool at VWL or BC?

Has any one gotten this same feeling or had the chance to ask a DVC rep about this?

Thanks

I believe the pool area is supposed to be similar to SAB, and SSR is including a food court- no formal dining although there is some speculation that that may happen sometime in the future.

I think SSR will be just as kid friendly as other resorts and perhaps more so than some.

It's true that the furnishings are more true in style to an inn in Saratoga Springs, NY and might make one think "don't touch". But this is Disney and they who know that families are going to be staying there. I'm sure the furniture is just as durable as in the other resorts and there will be no "attitude". They love kids just as much at SSR as at any other WDW resort. You can enjoy all of the beauty of Saratoga style with none of the kid-friendly worries.

The pool looks like it will be great. The upkeep necessary on SAB makes it unlikely Disney will ever build something that elaborate again at a resort but SSR looks like it might come close. ;)

That reminds me!!!

Actually I think it may be more durable Pam- I forgot to post this, but I meant to tell DVCers, the "table" in the studio part of the room is made of a leathery material and is similar to an ottoman, but it's a table. I commented to the guide how great that was, since our table at BCV at the time was all scuffed.

We were originally waitlisted for 65 points, February UY. These came thru on Friday apparently, and they charged my card and sent me the docs for signing. By this time we had decided that we really wanted 75-80, and so we asked our guide to see if she couldn't get us 10-15 more. She has us holding off on the signatures for a week, while we wait for a few more BWV Feb UY pts to dribble back in. Next Monday if we don't have any additional points available, we'll sign up for the 65 (maybe waitlist for another 25 after that just to see if anything comes in;)).

Good luck on your March UY waitlist, minster22.

Thank you for your reply, pumpkinboy. How long were you on the waitlist for the additional points?

Don't know how the selling of SSR is going, but we were just there over the weekend and the sales center was packed the whole time. We stayed at BWV and were amazed by the number of people that were touring the models!

I just bought 200 pts at SSR yesterday! I'm thrilled! And the Open House center at BWV was PACKED. Our guide couldn't even get us into a conference room for a while. I'm currently thinking over how to use my points! I think I can get in an anniversary weekend for DH and I alone in August and a week long family trip next Feb. vacation since I'll have 200 pts for 2004 and then 200 pts in Feb. 2005.

We've been tossing around the idea of doing this for a few years now and I'm glad I finally got DH to agree! A week at the Swan made it a lot easier. No Mickey to be found there. :earseek:

We just returned from a cruise and one of the guides on the cruise at a member event told us that SSR is 1/3 sold. That seemed high to me for such a big resort but he said it really was selling extremely well.

:scratchin Could be that the one-third number refers to the buildings already under construction (not just planned that is).

Just two weeks, but extenuating circumstances...
Minster22, I sent you a PM with the long details

Thanks pumpkinboy, for the update!! I check my credit card online almost every day just in case the points came thru....still haven't mentioned the extra points to DH!!
