We have a reservation at Vero Beach for April but we are looking at extending our stay to get cheaper airfare. According to MS, For the dates we need, only OKW and SSR are available at Disney.

I've never stayed at either.

Is OKW a good choice for young children? i.e. nice kiddie pools etc..

I'm not to keen on hauling a double stroller on buses all the time...so we figure we'll be driving to the parks.. Is it possible to walk anywhere? downtown disney?

Our young ones love the large sand play area and the kiddie pool at OKW. Slightly older ones liked the pool slide. Community hall has lots of activities. Kids also liked renting bikes. We love the park-right-outside-your-unit convenience with strollers. Everyone enjoyed the boat ride to DD.
You can walk to DD (there is a path from the South Point area), but it is quite a walk from much of OKW.

OKW doesn't have elevators in the buildings except for three, 62, 63 and 64 and those are generally reserved for guests needing accessibility. So if you hate hauling the stroller on the bus, you will really hate hauling the stroller up and down the stairs.

It's easy to walk to DTD from SSR.

So is the setup similar to the mods where there is no interior hallways

...so even though your parking right out front..you could be are walking up three flights of stairs? I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to leave the stroller in the car.

Thanks for the help guys!

No, SSR are elevator buildings throughout. OKW was DVC first built resort. You could request a ground floor which might help with the stroller situation. I love OKW and kids love it too! It really does feel like home from community hall to the sand castle pool slide and seeing the boats come in. Hope this helps.

We've been going to OKW since our kids were 5 and 2 and the love it there. when given the choice of which DVC resort to stay at they almost always choose OKW. The units are huge and there is tons of storage, which is great for toys and kids' stuff. The pool has a great slide and play area and Community Hall offers lots of craft projects and activities for the kids to do.

OKW is more like an apartment complex or condominium complex. Multiple stairways up to the villas for each building. Not hotel style by any means. SSR is similar, but it has elevators.

The main pool at OKW has a great slide for older kids, and a fantastic sandy, beach-like playground for little ones, but the "baby" pool is nothing to write home about--really small, and placed behind the slide, so it's a challenge to keep an eye on your kids if you have one in each pool. SSR's High Rock Springs pool is much better for both entertaining little ones, and keeping track of a crowd, in my opinion.
