How is Mama Melrose at HS?

I tend to stray from any in-park Italian offerings (Epcot being the exception). Tony’s is abysmal and has scared me
off pretty much anything serving pizza or pasta.

However, whenever in HS, we always go for either 50’s Prime Time or Sci-Fi. I’m wanting to try something new (Hollywood Brown Derby is not an option), so we’re thinking about Mama Melrose.

But again, bad Italian scares us. Pretty much the only restaurants on this earth that my husband refuses to eat at are Olive Garden and Tony’s in MK! Will we be disappointed?

This is how the podcast affiliated with this site liked it.

I thought it was good, but I will eat at places like Olive Garden. My DH and I had chicken parm, and that was just okay. My son got the steak, which was really good.

We went in 2015 for lunch. We had to wait about fifteen minutes past our reservation to be seated. We were using the Fantasmic dinning package which at that time included an appetizer, entree, and a dessert platter.

We both really enjoyed the calamari with different dipping sauces. It was the best part of our meal. We both ordered steaks with macaroni and cheese which was very good, but not very Italian. Dessert was not memorable, but we were full by that point.

I did the Fantasmic Dining a couple of times before they dropped the appetizer from the package. It was okay and much better the second time after I'd learned my lesson and skipped the heavier pastas. On my first visit I contracted a serious case of lead belly which kinda meddled with my plans to ride Tower of Terror later.

It's not bad Italian, it's decent Italian. I just watched the review posted above and that is how I remember it. it's not lifechanging or amazing italian but it is tasty and I love the atmosphere in there. I'm thinking of doing it for my next trip, with F! package... it's more appealing now that the app is gone, that was just TOO much food for me.

We love Mama Melrose!!! We typically order the flatbread and steak. Salads are good. Kids love the meatballs. However, dessert is not impressive.

S. L. O. W. We have tried quite a few Disney restaurants in the past year, but Mama Melrose was the only one to top the 3 hour mark. Food was ok. Some dishes were served cold. Flavors were hit or miss. I don't recall which were worth ordering again because we had already decided that we wouldn't be returning by half way through the meal. Definitely stick with recommended dishes.

We like it. Compared to the rest of dining at HS it's excellent. The only competition it has is HBD, but we are in the minority around here and we do not care for SciFi at all. Especially the seating, which I despise. The food is just a notch above QS for me and when you add on seating issues I really just about refuse to dine there again.
However, MM is a favorite. We went last weekend and did the F! package, because DD had never seen F!
Usually, we just do a regular meal. I love their pizzas, and missed being able to order that since it's not a meal option with the dining package.
We've dined there many times and never had a long wait to eat or slow service but we always go for lunch, since HS is not an evening park really. By nighttime we are ready to catch fireworks, not eat.
We don't really do their Italian though, as in pasta and sauce dishes. My favorite dish is their fish. DH gets their steak.

This is the only restaurant in Hollywood that my family hasn't tried yet and thanks to the Fantasmic Package we are trying it in June ( I refuse to ever eat at Hollywood & Vine again ) so I am hoping the reviews are accurate.

I wouldn't post this as a review as it was likely more a one off problem but I wouldn't go back because of it. We waited a good half hour past our reservation time last summer, meal took at least 2.5 hours because after the first hour and half of slow service, we waited another hour to get the bill. Turns out there was some sort of computer glitch and our bill got lost. We were on the dining plan but had ordered 1 cocktail and 1 appetizer. Eventually the bill was brought and the server said they had lost ours so he just charged us for 5 spaghetti and meatballs, so at least a little break on the extras for our very long stretch of waiting. And yes we had asked for help after waiting for awhile but nothing. So I signed for our meal and paid for the tip with the magic band (which I still did at 20% since I was being nice) and then the next day, they apparently found our actual bill and just charged it to my room. No contact, no apologies just a sudden extra charge on our room. I sent my daughter over and she spoke to them and they reversed it again to the original one, so no lasting problem. After all was said and done I don't remember the food at all so I'm gonna say it was okay. Not terrible and not fabulous IMHO. Just be careful and check your room charges.

I've had the chicken campenella twice which is good but in Sept we have a lunch adr and I plan on getting that steak and mac and cheese and tiramisu!

Haven't had a bad meal here

We have eaten there a few times and we liked it. I also do not care for SciFi at all.

My husband and I have eaten there twice, once with the Fantasmic package and once by choice:)
We found the atmosphere kitchy and fun! The food, pasta dishes for us, was very good. No complaints on either the food or the service. We never had to wait past our reservation time.
We are not "foodies", but enjoy good food and atmosphere.

I thought it was okay. DD really liked it. DH loved it.
I think I ordered the flatbread with the spicy meat. I remember it being so spicy I didn't like it, and I like spicy. No flavor, just spice. I wished I had ordered the vodka penne pasta. Several tables around me had gotten it and it looked so good!
DD got the kids pizza and enjoyed it. What really impressed her was the meatball cupcake at the end. To me it looked like a crime scene, but it did taste pretty good.
DH ordered the steak. He told me he liked that steak more than the steak he had at Le Cellier the night before.
We did the Fantasmic! package and I was not happy that we had to share a dessert trio. This was before my obsessive Disney planning came into play so I didn't know any better and was incredibly disappointed. Now I know, now we don't go there. I don't share food. ;)

I had avoided it for years thinking it would be as bad as Tony's and it's not at all. We actually enjoyed our meal here.

If possible, try to book the Fantasmic package which is still 1 TS credit but includes an appetizer.

There was a miscommunication of some sort there.
You should not have had to share 1 dessert trio, each of you should have gotten one. We just did this and each member of our group got their own trio and we have each time we have done this in the past, even when an app was included.

:(

This was over 5 years ago, is it possible it changed? Not that it matters, just curious...

it no longer includes app. But is still not a bad use of a TS credit, especially if you were going to go there anyway, might as well get the F! seating.
