Hi everyone,

I usually rent a car from Alamo, with my Costco membership I can get a decent discount and a free additional driver, which is always nice. However, prices are crazy for my trip right now, near $100 for just over 4 days (11/30-12/4).

I found an ok price through Rental Car Momma with Dollar, so I was wondering if they are ok. Also, how much do they charge for an additional driver, I can't seem to find that anywhere...if it's $10 a day, then I guess I might as well just go with Alamo!

Thanks for any help in advance!:thumbsup2

I wouldn't call a car for $25 a day CRAZY prices. That is actually pretty cheap.

You can rent a car through Priceline for about $17 a day on most mid size cars in non peak times.

I don't do the bid your own price thing I just look at the car rental prices and go with the cheapest one that is located inside the airport.

Oh I just realized I typed $100...I meant $200! I'd be thrilled with $100 for 4 days! :rotfl2:

I just checked Priceline, and their rates are actually pretty good, but now I have to make another thread asking about Priceline and how that works...:crazy2:

I have rented Dollar numerous times from MCO. It's fine. Not as fast as Alamo/National with "pick your car and go", but if you join Dollar Express, you can at least have your info pre-loaded and there is a separate counter line.

Actually, now if u are an express member u go straight to the garage. A car is assigned to you. It will be listed on a board near the booth. Then you just just drive straight to the exit booth. Faster than alamo

We HATED Dollar Rental.

We rented from them for our trip home to CA last winter because it was a good deal. We liked the car we got (a Dodge Avenger) BUT we came to find out that only one side of the heater worked. The other side blew out ice cold air.

I should also mention that it was 21 degrees out and we had a 2 year old in the car with us.

So, naturally, I called Dollar to see if we could just trade the car for a different one. They said yes, if I wanted to drive the 50 minutes to the closest one. Which was ridiculous since the car was due back the next afternoon. They wouldn't even give us a partial discount/refund when we returned it and talk to the manager. All they could do was offer us a 10% discount on our next rental...which I advised them would not happen since we would not be renting from them again.

So anyway, just beware that they are not very helpful!

And if you prefer a different car than assigned, you can pick what you want.

I've used Dollar multiple times in Orlando, and once in Denver. I've also used Budget and Alamo. I've used Dollar the most though, because most of our trips where we need a rental car (i.e., not Disney) are over Christmas, or the same week as the Daytona 500, so prices are sky high.

Dollar's cars tend to have more miles on them than Alamo or budget (think 40k plus miles). I've had the same types of cars with Dollar as with Alamo, but much higher mileage with Dollar. Mileage doesn't bother me. What has bothered me is that sometimes Dollar's cars are not in the best shape. The last one I had in Orlando BADLY needed an alignment. The one before that couldn't get out of it's own way. BUT I've also had good high mileage cars from Dollar. The one I had in Denver had JUST been serviced, and was great. I will say none of the Alamo cars have had issues in Orlando, but again, I've only rented from them twice. Dollar does let you pick your car from the row. Budget is the one that assigns you a car in Orlando. Or at least that was the case in February.

Extra drivers are 10.00 per day, you can check this on the Dollar website.

We aware Dollar at MCO will ask to see your fuel receipt that shows you filled the car within 10 miles of the airport. It is now write on the contract you sign when picking up the car and they also tell us this when we got the car.

Here is the wording on the contract

REFUELING POLICY
Customers who do not purchase our refueling option must refill the vehicle within a 10 mile radius of the rental return facility and present a fuel receipt to avoid refueling charges...
