How is "Dinosaur" a thrill ride?

Hi, Fellow DISers!

I keep seeing Dinosaur referred to as a "thrill ride" in numerous threads.

Is it because it is in the dark and there are scary elements (with dinosaur roars, etc), not totally unlike Snow White (on steroids :earboy2: )?

Or are there other features that make it a thrill ride, such as a sudden drop?

Could you please describe the ride for me?

Thanks!
Sheila

You have the premise right with the dark with scary elements, such as dinosaurs looking like they are coming out at you. Also, it is a simulator, so you are weaving, going up and down hills sharply (not big drops like a rollercoaster). My DD who rides rollercoasters thinks this is much more intimidating.

I ride absolutely every ride with no fear. Dark rides, fast rides, 'scary' rides. I'll ride the tallest, fastest roller coasters and come off high-fiving everyone, exhilirated but never scared.

But Dinosaur got to me. I was sitting in the back corner and less than halfway through the ride, a dino popped out of the dark and roared in my ear. It startled my nerves so bad that I actually started shaking and couldn't get rid of the shakes for a good 10 minutes after I got back outside. I actually like the ride and will go on it again, and I probably would have been fine if not for that one dino, but I can't recommend it for the young or easily frightened.

I love this ride but it is very intense and very jerky. It feels like you're going over thousands of rocks. It is a great ride! :wizard:

I also like roller coasters but was a bit freaked by thuis ride. It is quite intense. I guess I'm just scared of dinosaurs!!!!!!! LOL

When you say "the ride is like riding over thousands of rocks", is it jerky like Star Tours? That made me ill :crazy2: and ruined my entire day - and we only had one day in the parks!

I would consider it a thrill ride. I guess it depends on the person. DD7 absolutley freaked out when we were on it. She wants to do it again next time! :goodvibes

And, yes, it was very bumpy. :Pinkbounc

It's not really a simulator - at least not like Body Wars or Star Tours.

You sit in a big Jeep-like vehicle (4 across, 3 or 4 rows) that moves along a track. There are no big drops like a coaster, but a lot of bumping, lurching, sudden moves forward and/or sideways - there are lap-belts for a reason. Also, this all occurs pretty much in the dark - except when a bright light snaps on to highlight the dinosaur that's roaring 3 inches from your face.

If you've ever ridden Indy at DLR, it's a similar ride system. Quite fun and yes, it IS a thrill ride, but no steep drops.

Imagine Jurassic Park at night riding in a Jeep. That's what the ride is like. This ride is very good at having you look one way and then something on the other side popping up on you.

I thought there was a drop at the end of the ride, is there not? I guess I am confusing it with someone else.

Did anyone have any problems with motion sickness?

I didnt get sick, but I hated, HATED the motion of this ride(I dont like most rides with drops or jerkiness.. I didnt know what the ride was, my evil wife kept blocking warning signs, so I figured maybe it was a 'small world' type ride...
I was cursing the whole ride and mumbling somethign to the effect of "I'm gonna kill you' to my wife.. she ended up bruising my arm because she got scared at moments.. I didnt get scared, I just hated the motion... :earseek:

I did....i figured this time i am bringing dramamine...i enjoye dthe ride, but defnitely made me sick...not as bad as star wars though

It's a very jarring ride, and it's very loud. We won't do it again because we don't see what all the hype is about.

This is the one ride in all of the World that made me feel as though I was losing my mind. Herky-jerky motion combined with strobe lights and sudden dinosaur appearances is apparently the magic formula for instant insanity. Wouldn't call it a thrill myself, but your mileage may vary.

There are warnings for people with neck and back ailments for riding this attraction. It has been described in Walt Disney World & Orlando for DUMMIES as the closest you'll ever come at Disney to riding a bucking bronco. I personally have not gone on Dinosaur yet but this seems to say it all.

Yes, there is a drop. Not a huge one, though, kinda like the one in POTC.
