How is "Dinosaur" a thrill ride?

Yes, there is a drop. Not a huge one, though, kinda like the one in POTC.

Is is even as much as POTC? None of the guide books or websites seem to mention it.

Herky-jerky motion combined with strobe lights and sudden dinosaur appearances is apparently the magic formula for instant insanity.

That comment cracks me up! :rotfl:

While my DH and I love this ride, this is a fitting description:
the closest you'll ever come at Disney to riding a bucking bronco.

If you think jerky rides will bother you, DO NOT RIDE DINOSAUR. It's sort of like Star Tours, but we didn't get the motion sickness we get from Star Tours.

It is dark and the vehicle actually moves forward (not a simulator), and it moves up/down and side to side on hydraulics and things jump out at you like at a haunted house. Described that way it doesn't sound very fun, but we like it. :scared1:

It's real quick and right at the end. Personally, I wouldn't even call it a drop; it's more of a dip. My sis rode it and was fine w/ it, and she's a big chicken :rotfl: .

This ride scares me. Yes, I am a wimp. I love Mission Space. RnRC - no problem. Dinosaur? Never again.

I rode Star Tours, Mission:Space, Test Track & Dinosaur last week. Of the four, Dinosaur gave me the bruises. Test Track is just plain "Weeeeee!" fun. Mission: Space made my neck hurt and my lungs stop functioning for about 20 seconds. (But it was fun.) Star Tours was so tame, I rode it twice in a row and felt more motion on the BackLot Tour at Cascade Canyon.

If you hate jerky rides that make the seatbelts dig into you, pass Dinosaur. The darkness and startling frights of the ride are much like any other spooky dark ride at Disney (Haunted Mansion, ToT, old Alien Encounter), but the motion of the vehicle tosses you about like a leaf caught in a blender. Worse, since you're in the dark you have no way of anticipating how your body will be thrown or when.

Still, I loved all 4 rides. Next time (my May trip), I'm doing all 4 and adding ToT to the mix. I won't ride the roller coasters.

J;)

Its a very rough and jerky ride. Next time I go back to Disney, I will definitely skip it. Although my son loved it.

DINOSAUR is a very dark, scary, and jerky ride. But it's still a really good ride. Several times dinos come at you. The way the ride is made is a lot like the Indiana Jones ride. DINOSAUR is also a very bumpy ride so I suggest not taking your younger children on this ride unless they have nerves of steel.

I thought there was a drop at the end of the ride, is there not? I guess I am confusing it with someone else.

I'm pretty sure there was a drop. I think it was when the T-rex was like about to attack the jeep and so it sort of dropped underneath the dino. Not sure. :confused3

Is it a drop, or is it more like you really speed up? That's what it felt like to me, you speed up, maybe going down a slight incline to give you the 'stomach effect', as we call it in our family.

Any drop you feel is hydraulics from the ride vehicle. The track is smooth. There's an acce;eration at the end, but I don't think there's any drop.

Of course, it could also feel like a drop because everyone in the car ducks at once. . .

Dinosaur scares the bejeezus out of me!!! :scared1: It's fun, but I am not a big fan of scary rides so i think i'll skip it next time i'm there.

Well, I know there's a drop at the end of Indy at DL where the big rock ball comes rolling at you, and Dinosaur is supposed to be the same track. I've only ridden Dinosaur once, so I'm going by memory, and I remember that it has the same drop. The T-Rex comes down on you, roaring, and the jeep dips down and speeds up to get away from it.

I think this sounds like FUN!!!! I'll just take some motion sickness medication and I'll be good to go! Thank you so much for all of the input!

:disrocks:

I ride Everything, but this one freaks me out--after the first time the dino "surprised" me I closed my eyes--I still ride it with the kids everytime--but I never open my eyes--still don't know half of wht is in that ride! LOL

It is also VERY LOUD!!!!!

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

All of my friends and family think I'm nuts, but I actually wear ear plugs on this ride. Maybe I just have sensitive hearing... the first time I rode it, I had my hands over my ears the ENTIRE time (you can see it in the picture haha) and thus my body was jerking all over the place because my hands weren't on the safety bar.

This is a little off topic...but KillerMac17 I laughed soooo hard at you waving bye to the counter....*wiping tears from eyes*.....Thanks for that...I needed it today. :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :goodvibes

The drop on Dinosaur is not very much - as other posters have said, more like a dip. You may be thinking of the Jurrasic (sp) Park ride at Universal's Islands of Adventure. That one has a tyranosaurus rex that looks like it's going to eat you and at the last minute you go down a relatively steep flume into the open - sort of like Splash Mountain at WDW. I may be mistaken but I think the dinosaur that menaces you on Dinosaur is a carnotor.

The "drop" in Disnosaur is really a hill that is about 6-10- feet high and you don't coast down it. The jeep drives fast down the hill. It doesn't reall feel even like the drop in Pirates.
In Indianna Jones it feels more like a sudden drop. Of coarse I am so busy recoiling from the huge roaring dinosaure head I may be wrong!!!

You are thinking of Jurrassic Park at IOA. :)
