How is deck 2?

I'm kind of paranoid about being so far down in the bottom of the ship. But my category's cabin's on decks 5 & 7 were already booked!

Is deck 2 in the center an OK location?

We love deck 2, especially for category 9. I love having a window closer to the water.

We were on deck 1.. and I loved it.. it was very quiet... and smooth sailing.. :goodvibes
We loved looking out (cat 9) and seeing the water...Nothing to worry about..;)

WE LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!! If you hit rough seas (and we did) you feel the motion far less than the decks higher up.
Also, you have a better chance of catching a ride on the elevator since you are one of the first stops. On Deck 6 the elevator was always full by the time it stopped on our deck.
And since it mainly a 'residential area' it's pretty quiet.
Oh! and when you dock in a port, you're usually not too far from the door to disembark (no waiting for elevators when you board the ship after doing whatever all day!)
I would take a Deck 2 in a heart beat!!!!

I Loved deck two also! I have cruised on Deck 7 and Deck 2. I'd choose Deck 2 anyday over any above.

NO Motion down there, no noise, great location to get to everything easily (usually by stairs)! Loved it!:thumbsup2

Deck 2 is fantastic. We have stayed on Decks 2, 5, 6, & 7 and Deck 2 is our absolute favorite. It is convenient to most locations and just a quick elevator ride to Deck 9. It's especially convenient when you come back onboard after being in port as you won't have to wait with the crowds for the elevators. I'm not sure why your are paranoid about being on Deck 2. It's no different than any other all-stateroom deck on the ship, it's just a bit lower. You are still well above the water line.

We have been on both decks 2 and 5. I found deck 2 very convenient. I honestly don't think there is a really bad location on the ship!! But I would stay on deck 2 again...in a heartbeat!!

Two cruises on deck 2 and loved it!!! At dinner time is was a quick run down the stairs to change clothes. Just paid the down payment on our 3rd and we're back on deck 2:banana:

We were on Deck 2 for our first cruise and loved it. We were on Deck 5 on our second and while it was OK we much prefer Deck 2 and are back there for our next cruise. Deck 2 just seemed so convenient to everything and we felt much less motion down there as well. :)

We love deck 2. It is very convienant to quite a few things. Very little noise, if any. We are booked again this year in same location. :)

Our first two cruises were on Deck 2 and we enjoyed being in the center the first time, but didn't enjoy the aft location the second time. One night, the engine noise kept us awake all night. If felt like they really cranked it up to get from Grand Cayman to Cozumel.

The center of the ship was very quiet, close to the stairs and main area. Getting first access to the mid-ship elevators was very convenient.

Thanks for all the positive responses. Will definitely stop calling Disney to see if anything opened up on Decks 5 or 7!

For the poster that asked, a long time ago, when I was a kid my mom was afraid to fly and we took a lot of cruises. To save money we booked the bottom of the ship! At that time the bottom was below the water line and right near the engines, crew rooms, etc.

I understand Disney doesn't start their staterooms that low, but you know how bad experiences/impressions just stay with you!

Feel much better and not paranoid anymore!

Put your fears to rest.....DCL is not like older cruiseships where perhaps being on the 1st passenger deck did put you in "steerage"...think Titantic!!!!

Deck 2 is an excellent location.....so many people equate higher decks with being "better" but that really is not true at all. I have put this summary of decks together to help all those who fear Decks 1 and 2....and post it every time a thread like this comes up....hope it helps!!!

I can never understand when people say that Deck 2 is far away from everything....the opposite is actually correct (at least on DCL)....if you think about the layout of the ship and you are staying on Decks 1 or 2, the only places that you really need to take an elevator to are Decks 9 and 10....except of course if you are in a wheelchair or handicapped in some way (or just don’t like stairs)...but think...you can have that extra dessert if you walk some stairs LOL!!.

Here is a breakdown of decks....

Decks 9 and 10 - Topsiders restaurant, Mickey Pool, Goofy Pool, Adult Pool, the spa, the fast food places, Cove Café (coffee bar), the Deck Parties, Palo....if you didn’t want to hike up the stairs you can take an elevator to these decks from Deck 2 (hint...the forward elevator is almost always available and takes you right to adult pool area on Deck 9).

Decks 6, 7, 8 - these are passengers decks...no cruise "activities" and you would still have to walk up 2, 3 or 4 flights to the pool deck (Deck 9) or Deck 10 for Palo, sports deck.

Deck 5 - has a some passenger cabins and the Oceaneer Club, Oceaneer Lab, Flounders and the Buena Vista movie theater (all these are only 3 flights up from Deck 2).

Deck 4 - has the Walt Disney Theater, Mickey Mates shop, Treasure Ketch shop, Studio Sea lounge, Tea with Wendy event, Shuffle Board, those great comfy Deck chairs outside, the walking/running area, Animator's Palate Dining Room, Shutters (all these are only 2 flights up from Deck 2).

Deck 3 - has Rockin Bar D (theme nights, game shows, comedy shows, nightclub acts, Bingo), Diversions Pub, Sessions Piano Bar, Promenade Lounge, Up Beat shop, Internet Cafe, Guest Services Desk, Shore Excursion Desk, The Atrium (where most of the photos ops are taken and autographs given plus the games like Chip It Golf or Frog Racing, the Captain's Cocktail Party, Martini Tasting, Till We Meet Again Party) Parrot Cay Dining Room, the Galley Tour, Lumiere's Dining Room (and I probably forgot a few activities).... (all these are only one flight up from Deck 2)

Deck 2 - has the new kids area called Ocean Quest plus passenger cabins - just walk down the hall.

And finally Deck 1 has the Medical Facility and some passenger cabins...(only one deck down).

So, saying that Deck 2 is too low and too far removed from all the activity is not correct at all....it is actually closer to MORE of everything going on onboard except for things that happen on Decks 9 and 10. In addition, Deck 2 is at least equal in distance to some things as if you were on Deck 6, not to mention the convenience of getting on and off the ship in ports...no waiting endlessly for the elevator to the higher decks when you come back from a hot, exhausting day of exploring the ports....just one flight up and you are “home”....priceless!!!

We have cruised on both deck 2 and deck 5. Deck 2 is close to everything and if you're not too far forward being under the clubs, is very quiet. Check out the stateroom reports.
