How is ALAMO?

I believe with on-line check in there can only be one person registered as a driver.

I have the standard SUV booked for the end of Oct, hopefully I won't have any problems, never used them before.

Also, if you sign up at Alamo.com you can get a discount too and earn points or something.

We used Alamo a couple of times - but the last time I waited in line for over an hour and that was it!

We switched to Dollar about 5 years ago and have been with them ever since. I joined their Fastlane Membership (which was free) and our check-in takes about 5 minutes. With the Fastlane, you check-in through a different line, and you are taken in front of everyone else. All of your information is already in the computer, they print it out and you sign it and walk across the steet to pick up your car. When we flew down in January, we were driving out of the airport within 30 minutes of our flight touching down.

I have a convertible rented for later this week - 1 week for $199, which includes all taxes and fees.

Are you all combining offers with your codes and all? I founda deal at $218.20 for a minivan on alamo's site, but in order to get it, I have to use the walmart id# and the american casino guide coupon#. Some people on this site have told me that although alamo's website may allow it, I'm taking a risk as the coupons say they can't be combined with other offers, and counter agent may not allow it. I also have a national rental right now at $257.60, so I'm considering punting Alamo if this is true and many of you had bad luck with alamo.

I'm not sure how the combining of codes will work out for you but when I rented with Alamo, the lady at the counter gave me a really hard time about my codes

And they were legitimate codes/coupons!!!

I had the reservation printed out in my hand and she was refusing to honor it stating that her computer in front of her right now is not taking the code.

Still don't know what she meant but all I know is that I didn't work hard month after month, code after code to get the best rate possible only to be told they wouldn't accept it.

Finally got the manager who at first wasn't going to honor it but when they saw I wasn't budging and there was at least a 2 hr line behind me, they honored it.

I still to this day do not have a clear understanding of what the issue was other than her computer wasn't accepting the code that day.

So, to make this long story even longer, if they gave me such a hard time about legitimate codes, I can't imagine they would let the combination of different codes slide. Unless of course the computer takes the codes that day(!)

FYI - You can get the same rate as the OP ($148 for a midsize SUV) without the Entertainment codes. Use Rate Code BY, ID# 430710 and coupon code D42C. The coupon can be printed off Alamo's website.
Where is the ID from? If it is not from Alamo, you cannot stack the coupon and ID. It does give a great rate, however.

Just googled the code/coupon. The code is for walmart and the coupon is an e-coupon from Alamo itself. So the code/coupon should be stackable in this case because the coupon is directly from Alamo? Of course, I could be wrong.

edit: Coupon says cannot be combined with other discounts, so I would call Alamo and ask.

I got a deal today with one straight coupon, no combinations whatsoever. It was the ACG coupon: Rate Code BY, Contract ID #641394, Coupon Code DT9B. Total price for 7 day minivan rental was $199.74! Woohoo! Now to decide if I trust Alamo...I mean the National res I have is $257.60 so this is a good savings, but not if they won't honor it, albeit legitimate info all from the ACG coupon!

edited to add: However, I should note my conf says the rate/product code is BQW, which I did not type in. I typed BY. Wonder why? And will this be a problem?

Hi - You might have to argue with them a bit over the difference. I had the same thing happen to me last year. I used a coupon code that I printed out from their website. It gave me a free additional driver and was a great rate. When I got there, they wanted to charge me for the additional driver and were charging me a different rate. When I complained they said my coupon didn't match that code so the pricing on my confirmation wasn't valid. I hadn't even noticed it until then either. There was a lot of back and forth, the manager had to be called several times and we were there for close to two hours. Eventually they matched the price to my confirmation but it was really a headache. It really did not start off the trip well. I would only use them again now that they have online checkin available allowing me to bypass the counter (but you can't use a coupon). Good luck!

Since I've joined the EA I've used National in orlando exclusively but I've used Alamo all over the country and never had a bad experience. I also have a reservation with them in Maui in October.

Ditto, in every respect and regard.
Was satisfied w/Alamo in the past (you've got to expect to wait in some line - you're in Orlando!). After our last experience, unless the car is free, I'll deal with their sister company National & use the Emerald Club for counter-free service.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. the Sunday before Presidents' Day, there were only 3 cars in the lot (and I mean the whole lot) all of them PT Cruisers. I told my DS to run, not walk, and place his hand on any one of them - reminded me of the one car commercial. Not sure what class they consider a Cruiser, but I had reserved a full-size. Good thing I only had 1 child with me, since he had to sit with the luggage in the back seat. We could only fit 1 suitcase in the trunk, sideways.

When I complained to Alamo, they indicated that I was lucky to get anything at all because they were sold out. Meanwhile, I had the reservation for @ least 6 months prior. At least I got a $40 credit for the smaller car.

This year I booked several months ago, via Emerald Club & Entertainment Coupon. I'm paying $123 for a intermediate (whatever that turns out to be) for 8 days.

Good Luck.

What is ACG? and, do you have a link? Did you try the coupon with the proper code?

Thats an internal change Alamo makes. You will be fine as long as you use the ACG code with the ACG coupon.

Yes, ACG is American Casino Guide coupon that I found on mousesavers. Yes, I used the coupon and all its codes literally, but any time I make an estimate and type BY, it comes back with BQW. Like another poster says, the system seems to change it, not me. I really like this price, but will be very upset if there are no minivans or if we have to wait 2 hours! We have 6 people and luggage and will be arriving around 11:30am sept 17....our goal is to be at Ron Jon's soaking up some rays by early afternoon.

I too am very nervous now after reading all of this. I am going w/ Alamo and did use the entertainment coupon and I also noticed when I plug it in it changes it on the next screen. I will be so upset if they do not honor it as it is their system that did it.

I booked a standard SUV so i hope that is what I get. Anything smaller will not fit our luggage at all.

As for the wait....that really stinks hearing all these stories of how long the wait is. I will be arriving at 9am on a saturday morning which isn't good. I will just have to wait and see.
