How important are MB and LL?

While we do have some MB, they are circa 2016. My understanding is the odds are HIGH that they won't work.
Hi Sam, I didn't read the whole thread. did you know that you can check on the Disney website, to see which of your Magic Bands are still active, when you log in go down under the area of your resort reservation, where it talks about Magic Bands, click on the link that says please make your selection(you aren't actually purchasing one, unless you want to) and scroll all the way down until you come to the Disney icon associated with your log in. There you will find a list of your active and inactive magic bands and tickets. Hopefully you will find that your Magic Bands are active. Good luck

Thank you for all of the replies. Of course, it leads to the next question...

I keep reading about how, without MB+, you don't get "linked to ride photos". Meaning exactly what? That you stop by the little kiosk thing to "link" the ride photo you want vs it being automatic (I guess)? We do plan on getting Memory Maker (I still think of it as Photopass. :P)
We have old MagicBands and they work just fine to get into the parks, to open the resort door, and for charging to the room. They also work if you are having a Photopass photographer take your picture.

I have had trouble getting ride photos until I made the following changes to my cellphone settings.
1. make sure you are logged into the Disney Wi-Fi in the park
2. go to the WDW app and make sure the location setting is set to Always. Disney needs to track your every move.
3. keep the MDE app open on your cellphone

Changes those settings has made the difference. Ever since I changed the settings to allow the app to allow track my location, it has worked for ride pictures.

Thanks. Had seen our MB listed. Unfortunately we can only find three of our original five. :(

I appreciate it, but I'm still waiting for someone to say HOW these "ride photos" work. Whether you have a MB+ or the MDE app open*, is it literally a case where you simply walk off the ride and go to the exit, no need to stop/scan/look at anything?

*By open, does it just need to be running? What if the screen times out? Is that considered "open"? I generally have multiple apps "open" that I can swipe between. I'm sure MDE would be one of those, but is that enough? Does it need to be the "top" app? Does the phone need to "awake"/unlocked?

For the attractions that don't have a tap point and screens that show your picture - for example Haunted Mansion and Tron - you just walk out. There is nothing you need to do, or can do, at the attraction to get your photo. Your MB+ or your phone will create the link between your account and your photo all behind the scenes.

As for MDE, I've had no issues in the past with just the app running in the background on my iPhone - "open" but not active and up on my screen. Not sure how it currently works as we all have MB+ now.

Thank you. So rides WITH tap points/screens still require a stop?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm guessing yes, otherwise why would they still be there. I always tap them regardless so I'm not sure what happens if you don't.

This! We always get pics all our ride pics (sometimes others guests as well) but we never stop to tap.
