How I Survived 11 Days at WDW with a Disney-Resistant Husband **2/20 THE END **

I'm sooo sorry about your character interaction or lack of at Tusker House. I would have been P'd off so you did well by getting up and moving on with the day.

Yeah, Disney may not be something that your DH likes at all bc of the lines and crowds. My DH is from California and in 2008 we went to DLR and it was soooo nice and slow. We went in September. We didn't have crowds or lines. I was VERY shocked!!!

New reader here. I wish i would have found this report sooner. what do the monorail transportation cards look like? Sorry to hear you didn't like your salad but at least the Grapefruit cake made up for it. My hunny doesn't like lines either. It makes it rather difficult. Sorry to hear that you didn't get to see Mickey at the restaurant.

WOW!! I am in shock that not one character came to your table at TH! I would have said something to someone for sure! You pay too much money for character meals to be ignored like that! How horrible! :confused3

LOVE the swingset!! The kids look like they are having a blast with it!! :goodvibes

Longtime lurker, still catching up! But I love your TR so far!

I was going to suggest, about the characters at TH, that maybe they thought you didn't want to meet characters? When we went to TH 2 years ago, one CM was very observant of our wary 5 year old hiding behind me while we were waiting to go in.

He chatted up DS, then told us he would ask the characters to wait to visit our table, and that he would warm up, because all the kids do. The characters stayed away, waving from another table or something. Then, Donald gave ds a high five, and the fear was gone! After that, the characters did come to the table.

I wonder if they misundestood your wanting to be seated for your kiddos not wanting a pic with Donald. Just a thought, for what it's worth! (A penny is the going rate, I think...) lol!

So sorry about the characters at TH!:sad2: We had bfast there last summer and had no problem with all the characters. Got to see them all!:woohoo: I am glad that you enjoyed the food!:)

BTMRR is one of my favorites and one of the rides I am really looking forward to taking DD on it in September. :goodvibes

The photos on your trip are gorgeous btw! The view from your BCV is fantastic! So sorry about your trek over to there, though I hope you can find some amusement in it now. BC looks beautiful! I believe it is one I would love to stay at sometime.

I'm so glad everyone liked F! I really hope it works out well for us to attend it as it is something I really want to see.

Goodness, I wish your experience at TH had been better. I am shocked that you got skipped over like that.

Great pictures of Katie dancing and the new playset. We have one similar in our backyard and it gets ton of use. :goodvibes

Quick question for you: We rented DVC points for our stay at BCV in August. Can we use the online check-in? How exactly do you do that? Thanks!

Hi!
Sorry I'm a bit late in joining but I'm all caught up and enjoying your TR so far! popcorn:: sorry things didn't all go as planned -I had a similar trip with DF's family last summer -all those months of planning & dreaming and they just weren't 'getting it' :sad2: .. the TR should be hereif it's still on the boards!

I'm very lucky that DF loves WDW - but not really the planning before trips - he's happy to let me plan (it's my hobby!) and he's so happy once we get there :wizard: .. I always knew I'd have to find a guy that loved the Mouse.. it means we are going to the World for our honeymoon next year! :lovestruc

Looking forward to reading more

I'm sorry about your character interaction at TH -- I completely understand about one little decision (getting up just a little later) making a domino affect, and not to the good! I hope your kids weren't too disappointed about Mickey -- that would be really sad to almost feel REJECTED! :( But I do like the expression on your DH's face at the breakfast table -- it's obvious he's enjoying the breakfast!!

It is funny how a little extra 15 minutes of snooze time at the time didn't seem like much, but really ended up completely changing our morning for us!

Admittedly, it was a little disappointing. The kids had been waiting just over an hour with their autograph books out and ready all through breakfast. :sad2: However, they weren't too fazed by it. We stepped outside and they had already moved on to the next thing on our AK adventure!:)

Great photos; thank you for sharing! The kids look like they had soooo much fun on their new playset! Your backyard is gorgeous; what a view! Seeing your kids having so much fun in their yard makes me rethink us living in the city with next-to-no-yard :)

Thanks!:goodvibes

We should have upgraded that playset about 2 years ago. I really had to question whether we should be spending the money on it with the kids already almost age 5 and 7, but in the end I think they will probably get a couple years out of it before outgrowing it.

As for living inside vs. outside the city - it is definitely a struggle. We are 30-45 minutes out depending on traffic. During the winter months I question whether we should be city dwellers but pretty well from May until December, and especially the summer when we are on the beach constantly, and wake up to ocean sunrises, I would not want to be anywhere else!:cloud9:

Ahhhhh your kids look like they are having so much fun. Our dd 19 is a dancer. Seeing your daughter's recital brought back memories. Our dd started when she was not even 4 and has danced ever since. She is now dancing in college. :goodvibes

I really wish I had a decent photo for years to come. I know mine will be 19 too before I know it! We arrived to the auditorium too late for me to snap photos backstage, and I only got those crappy photos during the recital itself. But better than nothing, right? ;)

I can't wait to hear how the kids did on the Yeti ride! My husband and daughter LOVE rollercoasters and they felt really ill after riding the Yeti...however they did force themselves to ride it two more times they loved it so much...even after eating ribs from Flame Tree :rotfl:

I will fill you in on all the details shortly!;) The Yeti can be addictive, can't it?

Although there are ALWAYS lines in Disney, I was SHOCKED at the lack of lines in my March trip (March 8-12, my college spring break) although I think it was considered peak (our longest wait was 35 minutes for TSM)! If DH doesn't like lines/crowds they can never be completely avoided, but maybe a less busy time would be better.

I'm excited to hear about the pirate party! That sounds like a lot of fun! ARGH! :goodvibes

Ooo and the Yeti! My mom was too scared to try that! :lmao:

Believe it or not, I have been to WDW at least 15 times during the first week of May. It is typically not that busy at all. If anything though, I found things were LESS crowded this year. Imagine my surprise when I get home and find out all my fellow May trippers on the boards were saying how crowded it was.:confused3

I'm sorry that you experienced bad character interaction at TH. We did okay - but we were seated near the entry where the characters walk in and were the 3rd table that they visited. The food was good...

Your new swing set looks great! Bet it will be a hit at the pirate party!

And Happy Father's Day....we don't celebrate it until September in Oz.

ps. I've taken a shot of the bracelet. I'll try and post it later (or with my shopping update).

Sounds like you had a great table for TH!:goodvibes

I agree - Perfect timing on getting that playset! I plan on hanging a pirate flag off it for the party!;)

Love the swing set! We bought one last summer and it's the best $$$ I ever spent!
Great dance pics, too.

Amanda

Thanks Amanda. I hesitated b/c I thought the kids might be too old for it, but so far, so good!:thumbsup2

Hi! Just got all caught up and I'm joining in! I too had a DH who hate lines and crowds :sad2:. Oh well....thank goodness my parents love WDW and we don't live too far away: cool1:!

So sorry you all missed out on the characters at breakfast!
I hope the kids like the Yeti!

What a great swingset!! My dd just had her 1st recital...what fun!
Can't wait to see what happens next!

Thanks so much for posting and Welcome!:welcome:

What a great benefit having parents who live closeby to WDW!:)

Hope you guys had a good time at your daughters' recital. I love attending them! This year's theme for ours was Princess and the Frog. :goodvibes

aww, it sounds as though your only good character interaction at the meals has been at CP. However, the musical parade at TH looks so cute!

Love your backyard playset and gorgeous view!

You are right - I never thought of that until now, but that was 2 character meals that kinda went bust with the main characters, wasn't it?

Thank goodness we will see the Fab 5 again at Cape May!:goodvibes

Aww..that's too bad about the characters at TH! :headache: I agree with a PP, the picture at breakfast looks like DH was having a fun time!

Can't wait to hear about the Yeti!! Love that ride!!

Very nice swingset! :thumbsup2 We just had our girls recitals this weekend too! Good times!! Her little costume is so cute! :goodvibes

Sara

Oh good - I kinda thought myself it looked like DH might have been scolding my son in that photo (which he wasn't). I am glad you picked up that he was in a good mood, because at that point (once we were inside and eating!)

Gee...it sounds like this was the weekend for dance recitals. Hope you had fun!:goodvibes

Aww! I am so sorry that you got a late start! I can not stand when that happens to us!! It is usually my DH who is taking extra long to get ready ;)

Tusker house seems fun, but what a stinky table!! I can not believe that Mickey kept walking by...did he at least WAVE at you?! Your play set is wonderful! That is almost identical to the one we will buy when we build our house. I love it! Can't wait to read all about the Pirate Party pirate:

I am especially interested in hearing how your kids do on EE! We are debating putting Abby on it in December

Yes - our table at TH (at least based on the timing of the character rotations) was not the best spot, that is for sure! And no, Mickey did not wave. We missed out entirely.:sad2:

As for EE, I am sure Abby will do fine on it!;)

Great! Thanks for joining in!:goodvibes

We've been to TH once for the breakfast, loved it!
Sorry you all didn't have a great time!

Can't wait to hear more!

Overall TH was great! I would do it again! However, I would be upfront from the start by advising that I wanted to be seated where we would have character table visits asap given what happened on this occasions.;)

WHEW! I'M CAUGHT UP NOW WITH YOUR TR! YOUR PICS ARE AMAZING AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE ADORABLE. I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOUR NEXT UPDATE!:woohoo:

Thank you!!!:goodvibes

All caught up again! :yay:

I think we were at that same table outside of Hurrican Hanna's, only a few hours later. :rotfl:

My husbad sounds alot like yours. He dislikes the crowds, lines and heat. Not much chance of a Disney vacation without those! He doesn't mind going in December which takes care of the heat issue, but can't do much about the crowds and lines.

Sorry about the characters at Tusker House. We really want to try it there someday. The pictures of the food looked really good.

Love the new playset for the kids. And what a pretty backyard you have! Is that a lake in the background through the trees? Looks so peaceful. :cloud9:

Great job getting back into the running. I should be finishing the Couch to 5K program this week and then I'm going to work on my speed a bit cause I'm pretty slow. :rolleyes1 Once I can do a 5K in 30 minutes, I'll move on to the 10K I think. :goodvibes

Hey Michelle! Gee...talk about a close call on a DisMeet! I can't believe how many Dissers I *almost* met this trip!:rotfl:

Sounds like our DH are cut from the same cloth girl!

Definitely two thumbs up for the food at TH. We enjoyed our meals there.:)

The waterview in the background in those photos is actually the ocean. We are lucky to wake up to ocean sunrises and go to bed with the moonlight glistening over the ocean.:cloud9: I have never felt so tied and connected with a piece of property before.

Good for you for getting through the C25K!!!:banana::banana: Unfortunately I have not been as consistent as I would have liked this week with my running.

I have been reading your report over the weekend and I am finally caught up. I am so sorry that your husband isn't a Disney fan. My husband doesn't love it, but he likes it. I hope you will still get a trip there from time to time, mixed in with other trips of course. Your report is great and I love your pictures.

Thanks for posting!:goodvibes Glad you have caught up! And glad you have a husband with a "like" of Disney!;)

As for future trips...I just might have one in mind as we speak!:rolleyes1

Am I reading this right Trish? Not one character visited your table during your meal at TH? I most definitely would have asked to speak to a manager. You pay a premium for character dining - that is supposed to include characters...... :sad2: We saw many of them twice when we ate there in December, I can't believe you had such a bad experience!

Love your new playset! We sold ours last year because my kids decided they didn't want it anymore - talk about your babies not being babies anymore

Yes Michelle...you read right. Not one character in one hour at the table!

Our server knew we were anxious to see them too, but I didn't feel like I could complain. We could have stayed and kept waiting for them. But the Yeti was calling, KWIM???

Can I come play at your house? :upsidedow What a fun playscape!

Sure - come on over!:rotfl:

Your Declan is a lot like ours. He has that whole playset to play on and he is climbing on the cross support. :lmao: Just like ours would.

I took that picture 2 seconds before DH scoulded me for letting him do that!:rotfl: Apparently it is unsafe!;)

I'm impressed that you are so complimentary about the food given the complete non-interaction at your breakfast. I would have been really upset, but at the same time, I'm sure you couldn't be if your DH wasn't into the characters interacting with the kids anyway.

It just sounds draining! But the food does sound good.

Nice playset!

It's so true how one little thing can change everything....you seem to have rebounded well though!

Hey Cynthia! As for TH, I certainly wasn't impressed with the wait for the characters, that is for sure. However, I felt I couldn't complain as it was our choice to leave before they arrived at the table.

After over an hour of sitting at the table, and it being close to 25 minutes after park opening, I just wanted to get out and experience the park. It was sheer torture watching the steady stream of people walking by the window en route to the safari!

But you are so right about the snowball effect one little seemingly innocent detail can have on the whole day!:upsidedow

We are doing the Tusker House breakfast on the last day of our visit in JUly. It will be our first time dining there and now I am a little worried. No characters for my daughter would NOT be good!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think it was a blip. And we could have choosen to stay until they arrived - no one forced us to leave. (However, after sitting at an empty table for at least 20 minutes after we had paid the bill, we were getting kinda antsy!)

I was in DL for the 1st time last year. Absolutely LOVED IT!!!

DH hasn't been since he was a kid. And my kids haven't done it yet. My plan is to take them in 2012 once Carsland is complete. I want to show them San Diego, visit LA and DL, and then drive up the coast thru Big Sur and wine country (overniting in Big Sur in a yurt), ending up in San Fran.

I can't wait, and I am already thinking September as well! I love southern CA at that time!:goodvibes

New reader here. I wish i would have found this report sooner. what do the monorail transportation cards look like? Sorry to hear you didn't like your salad but at least the Grapefruit cake made up for it. My hunny doesn't like lines either. It makes it rather difficult. Thanks so much for posting and joining in! :welcome:

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any photos of the transportation cards. They are about the size of a business card and have a picture of the monorail on them. Definitely ask for one on your next trip!;)

WOW!! I am in shock that not one character came to your table at TH! I would have said something to someone for sure! You pay too much money for character meals to be ignored like that! How horrible! :confused3

LOVE the swingset!! The kids look like they are having a blast with it!! :goodvibes

Yes, the kiddos sure love the swingset!!!:)

So glad you posted, and welcome!:welcome:

As for TH, I don't think the fact that we bypassed the Donald photo affected the character visits at the tables. As I recall, the characters did not have a handler with them, and appeared to be doing the tables in a particular order. We just happened to be the very last table in the restaurant!:rotfl:

Our server was certainly aware that we were interested in the characters. We had finished our meals, paid our bill, and were waiting at least 20 minutes for a character before we finally gave up.

He kept assuring us that Mickey would be right over, and had even advised us that our table was the 1st stop in the back room. (As it turns out, our table was to be the last visit in the room!:rotfl:)

The table right beside ours also didn't get a visit with Mickey. However, we were seated for a long time before they sat down, and I believe they were still eating when Mickey got sick and walked away from us. So they were probably were still at the table when he got back to doing visits.

In retrospect, perhaps our table was assigned based on the assumption that we would have been having a photo with Donald (which probably would have meant that we would not have seated for an additional 20 minutes). This might explain why we had to kill so much time waiting for the characters to arrive.:confused3

So sorry about the characters at TH!:sad2: We had bfast there last summer and had no problem with all the characters. Got to see them all!:woohoo: I am glad that you enjoyed the food!:)

Yes, the food at TH was definitely yummy!:goodvibes

BTMRR is one of my favorites and one of the rides I am really looking forward to taking DD on it in September. :goodvibes

Thanks Stephanie!:goodvibes

I am sure your whole family will love BTMRR! It's a great ride!:)

If you can, try to get in for Fantasmic! It really is great!:goodvibes

Quick question for you: We rented DVC points for our stay at BCV in August. Can we use the online check-in? How exactly do you do that? Thanks!

Since we were trading in using RCI points, we were not able to do online check-in.

I am not sure if you could do online check-in when you are renting DVC points.

As I understand it, all communications with Disney on a DVC rental is always in the member's name. So whether Disney would allow a non-member to do online check-in, I don't know.

I know there are a couple of DVC members on this thread, as well as at least a few who rented DVC points. Anyone know???:confused3

Welcome Emma! :welcome: Thanks for joining in!

I will have to pop over to your old TR and comiserate!

So glad you seem to have found a Disney soulmate!!!

Gorgeous playset + yard! The kids will have so much fun with it!
Also, after Katie's gorgeous party, I can't wait to see the pictures/hear about all of the plans for Declan's pirate party!! I bet it'll be spectacular!

I want to show them San Diego, visit LA and DL, and then drive up the coast thru Big Sur and wine country (overniting in Big Sur in a yurt), ending up in San Fran.

We did a very similar trip in 2008 except we started in San Francisco, then went to Monterey & Big Sur, Sequoia National Park, DL and finished in San Diego. It was an amazing vacation, probably my favorite family trip to date! I wrote a TR for it, link is in my siggy if you ever get bored and run out of things to read

The waterview in the background in those photos is actually the ocean. We are lucky to wake up to ocean sunrises and go to bed with the moonlight glistening over the ocean.:cloud9: I have never felt so tied and connected with a piece of property before.

That is awesome! :cloud9: I don't think I'd ever stop looking out my windows. :rotfl:

So....have you planned your next WDW trip?? I always hate the "Disney Blues" after a trip. However having another in the planning stages is wonderful. popcorn::

You know how people say ..."Oh they grow up so fast". WELL THEY DO. I had a friend that told me how fast they grow up. When we moved to N.C. many years ago.....another family moved in next door. At the time their 3 kids were dd high school and their two boys middle school. Well she would oooh and ahhhhh over our dd who was soon turning 1. She would hold her and luv on her and tell me how fast they grow up. WELL IT DOES HAPPEN. I can't believe our dd will be 20 in Oct. Our ds will be 17 in Oct. and our youngest will be 11 in Dec. So DON"T blink during those recitals......because before you know it....your dd will be in middle school, then high school. I also bet they will play on that play set for more than a couple of years. Friends of ours have one in the back yard that was there when they bought their new home a few months ago. Their dd is almost 16 and their son is 12. Do you know that their dd will go hang out on it from time to time. She told her parents to NOT get rid of it. :rotfl2: Our dd was over there the other night and the two of them took a bunch of pictures of each other on the swings, pretending to drive the pirate ship, going down the slide and my dd wrote in the sand in the attached sandbox "Disney Sisters Forever". Then they put their pics on FACEBOOK. :rotfl:

Don't want to go off topic.....but I so agree with you. My sons are now 14 & 18. DS18 just graduated high school.

Time does go by so quickly...for all those with young ones, enjoy every minute because in a blink they will be going to college!
