How Hot is HOT

It's really, really hot...I'd say it's about equivalent to laying down inside a waffle iron:sunny: . It's better than July and August though--I'd say those months are equivalent to laying down inside a waffle iron that's been placed inside a tanning bed :faint: .

The sad part is, we're from Nashville so we are used to blazing summer heat and we still think it's hot. However...as long as you are smart, you can still have a good time. We dress in tank tops and shorts; we get to the parks as early as possible and we always take "A/C breaks" or pool breaks in the afternoon. The mornings and the evenings are usually pretty nice. And the best thing? You never have to tell your kids that it's too cold to swim!

We go every summer during the last of Aug. and all I can say is :

It's I feel sorry for kids in strollers hot!

It's don't dress toddlers like Cinderella hot!

It's monitor your kids' fluid (water) intake hot!

It's take a break in the middle of the day hot!

Everyone knows about the Disney mister fans, but these little beauties…

…are awesome! They are so worth the money (though I found them for $5 at Rite Aid). They are really small, but as powerful as the big Disney fans, and the water lasts all day as the mist is super fine. We would not have made it if every one of us didn't have one of these babies clipped on. I thought they'd be cheap pieces of junk, but really, they are great — and they only need 1 AA battery. They will save your life.:)

You are in and out of a/c so much it really isn't that big of a deal

There's a lot of truth here. One feeling I always associate with Disney World (my family always went in July or August when I was growing up) is the feeling you get when you leave air conditioning on the hottest, most humid day of the year - the heat hits you like a wave and the humidity wraps itself around you and holds in the heat. Then when you walk back into the air conditioning, the heat just melts away. For me, that's Disney World.

It's Hot. So what. I go every August and if it wasn't for my daughter's school schedule, I would not go this time of year.

Take breaks, drink lot's of water and it will be fun. Oh did I mention that it's hot.:furious:

Ok.....we booked free dining beginning September 14th at CBR. Since we have been to the World quite a few times we don't need to go commando....just want to do our fave rides. We are not early risers so planning on doing the Extra Magic Hours. Soooo how hot are we talking in mid September....smokin' - broiling - brutal??? Is it so bad I'll hate it?

You may want to reconsider the 'not early risers' part. It is coolest in the morning and late at night. I generally get up early, eat breakfast, then head off to the park. We head back to the resort around 11. There we rest or swim. Around 5pm we head back to the park. If you have park hopper tickets be sure to hit that park for evening EMH hours.

Last September was brutal for us. We are from CO so not used to the humidity. Relief came with frequent rain (of course, I look like a drowned, sweaty rat in every pic of that vacation!), A/C and long naps in our room.

We hesitated about booking again this year but promised ourselves this is not gonna be a commando trip. The plan is to enjoy the more immersive resort-type of vacation. We are doing the deluxe DDP and we're only going to rope drop at each park once. We'll be at the pool a lot and eating lots. Like a stationary cruise, DH say. Hitting the parks in the evenings. I hope it works. I still have doubts about the wisdom of going in September.

Okay, I have to ask! We are going Oct 2 - 9, please tell me is it just as hot at the beginning of October? I'm really scared now cause I'm not crazy about the heat!:furious:

We've gone in Sept./Oct. (mid Oct. last year) for the past few years and we have to leave the parks by 1 or 2pm because it too hot (and we are all tired). We live in the Philly area, but I hate that Augus heat/humidity!

One thing good about the heat...

we save a truck-load of money because all of our "official" photos taken in front of park icons are terrible. Red sweaty faces... no matter how big the smiles... are still red sweaty faces.

We went in third week of Oct 2007 and late Sept 2006. I live in Phoenix and understand hot but lemme tell ya...WDW was HOT! Sweaty hot. Knee sweat hot.

We took breaks, bought water for the room, packed light clothing and took ALOT of showers! I am a glutton for punishment because I booked our trip for 9/30-10/7 this year. It is kinda like childbirth amnesia...you forget it until you are in the midst of it again...;)

btw....I am originally from NJ so the heat/humidity at Disney is really not much worse than the good ol' Jersey August.

I am laughing at all of the 'bad pic' posts! My hair is naturally curly (naturally frizzy some days) and all of our vacation pics from September 01 is me with my hair in a ponytail and sweaty bangs. So, so attractive. Did I mention I was 6 months pregnant too? Beautiful scrapbooking pages.

jenjersnap -- be prepared. The humidity will zap the energy out of you if you are not used to it. :) BTW, my hair never looked better than the week I spent in your state in 1998.

Our last trip 10 years ago... around Labour Day -- it was STINKIN' Hot! As crazy as it was we are going around the same time again LOL We said we never would but -- alas we couldn't give up the Free meal plan offer...

The Devil himself leaves Florida this time of year because it's too hot.

I heard him once say that Hell seems cool compared to Florida in August and September.

It's very hot, but not anything you can't handle if you plan right. We always bring plenty of water...hit parks early....head back for a couple hour rest in afternoons and then hit them again in the evening. Works well for us. :)

Our last trip was during September and we won't do it again. It was sooooo hot and humid.

Ok, I am from NY. It get's hot here. But, not as hot as down there. Even with our recent heatwave. It is very very hot.
We have been down.
Oct 2005. Very hot. But, doable.
2006Aug/Sept- Miserable!
2007 Sept-right before, and past Labor day. Hotter, than hot! ::yes::

What I can say is every day last year. I would shower, lotion, powder. As soon, as I stepped foot outside the door. I was sweating. The humidity, and the high heat is unbearable at times. Do not, go to the park, without a mister fan/fan. They are life saver's. Do plan to come back to shower, mid day, take a swim. I find the most unbearable park for heat, is AK. This place, is sweltering. I have yet, to see half the park. Because, I just refuse to go walking through all that miserable heat. With refuge, far, and in between. I get so cranky at this park. I know it is my body signaling heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. :faint: :lmao: . But, seriously, it is brutal.

If, this can give you a gauge on the heat.
I never get sun burn. Never. Yet, I always burn terrible, down in Disney. It is hot!:furious:

We've been in mid-August twice now. Once we arrived the same day as a hurricane. There's a reason it's hurricane season at that time. I remember opening my patio door at BWV last August..it was like walking into a damp blamket, and that was at 7am!!! Just incredible. We were there from Sunday to Friday..the heat index one day, at MK, was close to 110!! Must be all that pavement. In all those days, my dd and I managed to do a total of 10 attractions....including all the parks. It was just too dang hot to be out. When we left on Friday, to head to port for our cruise, I thought it would get better. Nope, there wasn't even a breeze when we got out to sea.

Having said all this...we are headed back on Sept 4..going for Night of Joy and are thrilled to be able to do the first MNSSHP. I know what the temp/humidity is going to be. We will pack very light clothes. A lot of midday time will be spent at the pool. I plan on being at the park at park opening, then leaving around lunchtime and eating at the resort. Swim/relax for the middle part of the day, and return to a park around 5:30ish for dinner and nighttime activities.

These are my hotter than hades WDW tips....
1. drink more water than you think you need
2. wear a hat..always
3. short sleeved shirts vs tank tops
4. drink more water
5. leave the park at lunchtime
6. spend a fair amount of time in the a/c shops
7. swim
8. wash face, arms, hands often..that chilly water really helps..besides, with all that water you're drinking, you're going to be in the bathrooms alot anyway!
9. relax and take it slow..plan what's most important to the group. Do not try to do it all, see it all.
10. keep drinking....water, not that other stuff.

Okay I haven't read through the other responses but I can tell you when we were there it was rough (and yes we're doing it again! Our anniversary is still the same time each year! lol). It is the age old problem of the humidity in Florida. It is very very sticky and heavy. The upside is that usually every afternoon there is a shower to break it for a while. Just pace yourself and enjoy....in and out of shops, hydrate, etc.
