how hot from AZ to CA?

We live in AZ. HOT! We will be going to DL the first week in July. Should we expect to be not as hot, about the same, or "you call this hot?" I understand that it is a different kind of heat, but I have never been to CA and have no idea what to expect and thus, pack for. I grew up on the east coast, is CA's heat more like that?

I'm planning to bring sweatshirts and one pair of jeans for the nights.

well first off welcome to the dis this is a grate site and many of us are from az. seeing it hit 113 today i dont think it will be nearly as hot there as it is here but then again i never know im going in oct and went in nov so i got cold weather i have no idea for summer

I think Arizona is dry like here in Nevada right? I mean like 3% humidity dry like here? LOL You'll notice the humidity in CA, that makes it feel more picky, so it's a different kind of heat then what were used to.

Some people call it a dry heat there, but 39% humidity (which is what it was there the other day) isn't dry like were used to! We love the moisture there! LOL

So it may feel hotter only because of that. But yeah, if it's a heat wave like 113, it will really feel hotter!

I'm from Phoenix, and I have a hard time being in the parks if it is over 90 degrees. The humidity really makes a difference in how it feels. Luckily, there are quite a few activities at DLR that are air conditioned or shaded, so you just have to seek those out. Some examples include:

Innoventions
Animation Studio
Pirates of the Caribbean
First 50 Magical Years exhibit and movie
Haunted Mansion (they keep it icy cold in there)
Grizzley River Rapids & Splash
Bug's Land has shade
Pirate's Lair on TSI has shady spots

California has very diverse weather, depending where you are. In terms of southern California for July, you can expect temps in the 70s along the coast, 80s-90s 15-30 miles inland, 90s-100's in the valleys and inland empire and 100s-110's in the desert area like Palm Springs.

When you say CA, I'm assuming you are talking about the Anaheim area. You can expect temps in the 80s-90s.

When I was a kid, I remember going to DL during the summer and needing a sweat shirt at night. Haven't been there during the summer in many years. But, the temperatures will probably be in the 80s to 90s as previously mentioned with a slightly higher humidity.

I was thinking about bringing a light jacket just for the evenings.We will be there over the 4th of July holiday.Does it get cool in the evenings there to need a jacket?

thanks! It sounds like I should be prepared for east coast kind of heat. I think we'll be bothered mostly by the rays of the sun, not really the case in AZ.

I live in az, and I too have a hard time going in June or July. it is humid and I am not used to it at all... It is a tad uncomfortable for us......

I agree its the humidity that gets us Arizonan's. 95 degrees I can take easily but not in CA where there is a higher humidity level. Thats the killer for us. Just too uncomfortable. Still gets chilly when the sun goes down though.

I'm from Northern California and even I can feel the humidity difference when I go to SoCal. Bleh, I hate it! It may not be like Florida humid, but it's still humid!

You may or may not need a sweatshirt for nighttime, it just depends. I would definitely pack one, just in case. The same humidity that can make you so hot during the day also has the ability to chill you right down to the bone at night!

Yep, I agree with the others...

It is not hot like I just opened an oven door and going to die hot (as I remember of 110+ to be) - but humid hot that makes it pretty unbearable

You live in AZ. No heat can frighten or intimidate you. No worries. It will be hot but alas, you have the Pacific Ocean close by and it will be a cakewalk for anyone who is familiar with a summer in the valley of the sun.

East coast heat is nothing like west coast heat. West coast is hot but dry and arid and east coast is much worse with muggy, humid heat.

I live in AZ, and the heat does frigthen and intimidate me -- that's why I hibernate all summer long.

Seriously, most people aren't out at amusement parks or doing outdoor activities in the summer here in Phoenix, and if they are, they're just crazy and/or miserable. We learn how to deal with the heat by staying where it is air conditioned (air conditioned house, to air conditioned car, to air conditioned mall with air conditioned movie theater -- you get the picture).

Unfortunately, it's hard to do that when you are at Disneyland and the temps are hot and more humid than we desert rats are used to.
