We are thinking of taking our next vacation in Aug of 07.However I have heard the weather can be unbearable.Has anyone here gone to Disney at this time.{last week of aug}and how hot are we talking. We went last time in June and although it was hot it was still not uncomfortable and rained off and on the entire time of our stay.If anyone can give me alittle insight to this time of year it would be greatly appraicated.
Thanks

I've gone in mid-August the past two years and didn't find it unbearable. Yes, it is hot, but it's hot here in New England in August, too :).

There are so many air conditioned places you can duck into in the parks if you get too hot, that the heat really hasn't been an issue for me.

it does get kinda hot 90s but what bothers me more is the humidity i just moved from arizona here to florida and its the humidity that gets me more than the heat.

If you don't like the heat, you will feel like you are melting.

However, we love it at WDW in August. It really all depends on your personal preference.

That's quite a switch, isn't it! :goodvibes

We always go in Aug. Yes, it hot and humid!!! Don't let anyone tell you different! It doesn't really bother us too much. You get kind of used to it. We utilize the pools and take advantage of the evenings. If you prepare yourself for it to be really hot and humid, you might be pleasantly surprised. If you come from a really dry climate, it might be a little harder for you to acclamate. I have been there in June once before and it was just as hot, but they say it is not usally that way.
We will be there in Aug. again next year! :woohoo:

September is pretty bad too. It doesn't really cool off until at least late October.

we were there sept 3 and melted in humidity and heat 96 every day with rare raindrops,,,,,,only first day rained a bit,,,,,,,,,,,HOT, but wonderful of course! :cheer2:

We did August 2 years in a row and are going back August 2007. We were also very nervous about our first trip, however, it is not as bad as you might think. First of all August in New York where I live is just as bad if not worse. Secondly, you will be dressed for summer, and drink lots of water throughout the day.

The only downside in August is you really have to pace yourselves. We would get an early start and head to the parks, then around 2:00 we would go back to the resort and take a pool break or nap. At around 4:00 or 5:00 we would go back to the parks, sometimes later. Once the sun goes down it really wasn't that bad.

The only park I found was unbearable was Animal Kingdom. There really isn't enough air conditioned gift shops to take shelter there. We had to leave early because the heat made me ill that day. However, in EPCOT, Magic Kingdom or MGM if you really start feeling bad from the heat, just go into a gift shop for some air and that really does the trick.

I also was unable to watch the pardes, because it was just to hot to stand around. But, I saw the nighttime spectromagic.

If I had my choice, I would not go in August, but I don't so I make the best of it. It is doable, but at a much slower pace. Also, count on about a hour rain shower every day around 2:00 to 4:00. You can almost set your watch to it. Definitely plan on going to the water parks, they are crowded, but fun in August.

We have lots of heat and humidity here in the Washington. DC area in June, July, August and sometimes September so I know I could never take WDW in the summer.

I have truly wilted at Disney in hot spring break trips! It was in the low 80s when we were this past October (Oct. 4 - 10) and the locals said it was warmer than usual and I didn't like it then.

I think everyone knows their personal heat breaking point and summer would be absolutely unbearable for me in Florida. Add the higher prices and crowds and it would be a total waste of money to take me to Florida in August.

Our Florida resident friends say they go from AC place to AC place in the summer which is why we won't retire there!

I say take the advice above but temper it with your personal heat index and don't go if you don't think you will be able to stand being hot. I wouldn't go to Florida just to swim in pools and stay inside the hotel most of the day which is what I'd have to do to survive.

Honestly I was looking to go this time during value season to try and save alittle $$$$$.Also I noticed that is when they offered the free dinning as well.I was there in June and I didn't think it was that hot at all.I mean it was nice.I am from NJ and we get the humid weather here as well but I know it is really bad in Florida. We were lucky because by 2pm everyday it rained for about an hour and really cooled things off.We were wearing t-shirts and shorts and we were comfortable. From what everyone is saying that would not be the case in Aug-Sept.I also do not want to spend the bulk of my trip in the pool or indoors. What about the later part of Sept.I know I am really grasping at straws here but I really want to go when its cheapest. Our last trip ran me 6,000 and I just don't want to spend that kind of money again if it can be helped.I suppose I could just go and try to deal with the heat.I am so confused I don't know what I should do.HELP! :confused3

I love the summer months in Disney.

I have gone numerous times the last week of July/first week of August & it is hot but...

We go to the park for opening & we leave around noon-ish & we either eat in the park or we eat at the resort.

Then we swim &/or take a nap in the a/c room.

Then we go back around 5 ish all refreshed.

Everything is air conditioned so it's not like you are out in the heat all day long with out any relief.

I agree with stemikger that AK is the hottest park. I don't know why but I guess they want you to believe you are really in an African safari in the heat.

Oh & I live in southern CT & it can get oppressive here so the heat doesn't bother me as much as it would someone coming from a less humid State/Country.

When we went in 2005 I picked July vs August because our times to go were flexible & that is when I found the cheaper flight but I do prefer August over July since it is a bit less crowded since alot of school are back in session but we here in CT don't start until the last week of August or the first week of Sept.

If June wasn't too bad for you, then you might be okay in Aug/Sept. The big difference, IMO, is that the humidity is SO DARN HIGH then!! It does tend to rain a good bit, but the rain doesn't cool things off- it just makes everything into a big sauna.

Unfortunately, there is a reason they offer free dining in August and September- hurricane season, hot and humid weather, and kids in school all play a part.

If you can go later in the year, Value season runs from right after T'giving through right before Christmas. Lower prices, lower crowds, and lower temps.

We went for the first time last Sept. 13th. I was actually shocked at the heat/humidity. We are from So. Cal around 20 miles from the shore. It was so hot/humid. We started sweating as soon as we stepped out of the A/C. Don't let the heat frighten you, though. It's bearable... lots of A/C everywhere.
We did the early park thing and left after lunch for a swim during the extreme heat and returned in the early evening (5pm). The only one in our party (2 seniors, 2 adults, 1 child, 1 toddler) who didn't do well was DS2. He slept most of the time because of the heat.
My secret weapon was to carry a ziploc bag with a washcloth and before leaving the hotel, I would fill the bag with ice and use the cloth to wipe down DS every now and then. The ice melted and left wonderfully cool water. Pretty soon I was carrying 4 cloths in ice for everyone else!!
Now, it couldn't be that bad, if we are going again next year around the same time! :lmao:

Well thank you all for your imput but I still have no idea what I should do .It looks like I may have to just spend the extra money and go again in June.At least I know what to exspect and that I can handle that.
One last question though ....If I did decide to wait until the later part of Oct thru before christmas ...Are the water parks open at that time or is it too cold?

we were ther aug 21-26 and it was hot, but as long as you keep out of the parks during the afternoons it was great. mornings and evenings were very tolerable. i actually like august and have booked again for this coming year.

we went sept 2001, and I vowed never to go at that time of year again----we were trying to walk around epcot in 100 degrees and 100% humidity---if it rained you were just in more soupy conditions-----at that time my youngest was 8 mos, we stopped at EVERY fountain and wet towels to hang over his stroller hood.............anyway, we typically try to take the fam in feb.,you have to pull the kids from school, but the weather is warm but not oppressive-----we had shorts in am --brought sweatjackets for pm-----we still do water at this time of year.....weather permitting. You can get discounts until after pres weekend, and it is considered value season-----if you do it right it shouldn't cost you anywhere near 6000.00, if it did, we'd be on the every five year schedule for sure, and we've been each year almost since 01. feel free to PM me........GOOD LUCK :wizard:

In my opinion it's always hot during the summer in FL. We've gone the 1st week in June, 2nd week in August and 2nd week in September and it was always hot. I don't think it matters when you go just as long as you go with the mind that it's going to be hot.
