I look less at the price of a one day ticket than I do for the trip as a whole. 16 days, 5 people (3 Disney adults) to fly,sleep,eat,play its $75 a day per person. That's with water parks and hopping and all food. I find that to be a good value still.

2 Rooms Poly - $4100
Food - $3000 (we eat out a lot. One TS per day, sometimes 2, and HDDR alone is $500)
Hoppers - $2400
Flights from NYC - $1700
Plus the dog sitter, to/from airport costs and souvies...let's go with an even

$12000.

$244 per person per day.

(I'm sorry I typed that all out, lol. It feels better when it's in bite sized chunks like pay for airfare, pay for HDDR, make final package payment, pay for food while there...)

All those costs are pretty hard except the rooms for $4100. I could probably get a 2 or 3 bedroom condo for what? $1600?

Airfare was $950 round trip. Resort and tickets with free dining 5000. 1 room at PORS. First time we've needed only one room so this trip is almost a "bargain" compared to the last two years with 2 rooms.

You can get a 2 or 3 bedroom condo for a $100 or less a night.

Our other place to go regularly on vacation is to the seashore at Wildwood, New Jersey. Our hotel (which is never exactly four stars) usually runs to over $1300 for a week. Then you have to buy and cook your own food in the kitchenette, which can run to another few hundred for the week unless you want to spend the week eating baloney sandwiches. Then you have to pay for rides and attractions. A week in Wildwood usually costs us a bit more than a week in WDW-and the WDW vacation includes the DP so no buying food, cooking and washing up.

In WDW, I spend about 3 grand for two people-it's clean as a whistle, we eat like kings, and we never worry about our safety like we do coming home from the Wildwood boardwalk at night. Because of this, I'm not ready to throw in the towel on "affording" vacations at WDW-although at some point the towel may be thrown in for me.

I've had an AP, TIW card for food and gone twice a year solo for the past 3 years. I've loved it.

My oldest will be starting college in 2014. I will not be renewing my AP or TIW card then. I will also not be able to afford to go to Disney twice a year at that point.

I will try to swing my 5 day once a year trip solo but it will definitely be different. Probably value resort or offsite instead of a moderate, driving down instead of flying, maybe only 1 TS instead of the 3 I do each trip now. And definitely less spent on souveniers.
So they haven't totally priced me out of my solo trips yet - they will just have to be reduced.

But family wise - they probably have. My family aren't huge Disney World fans. The only reason I was able to get them to agree to our upcoming trip is because it's my birthday present this year.
They actually prefer Universal. Problem with Universal is I can't ride of most the rides there.
My youngest does like Disneyland though so I'm thinking we'll go back there in a few years instead of Walt Disney World, combining that trip with a visit to the sister who lives near San Diego and then that would most likely be the last family Disney trip. Kind of sad when I think about it. Good thing it's a few years away.

The media was making a huge deal of this yesterday and I just laughed. We've gone to SseaWorld, kings island, six flags, kings dominion and Busch gardens and none come close to value. The fact you can bring in food saves us a ton as we are not running around buying a ton of stuff. Plus when we go other places we use up points at Marriott usually and the good there is more expensive. Our kids love it and we find a new memory with each trip.

Each trip included airfare and 8 nights/9 days early December for 2 adults/1 child:

2010: We stayed at the Contemporary, Lake View room. Had DDP and park tickets but no park hoppers: $4600

2011: We stayed at the Coronado. Had DDxP and park hoppers: $4100

2012: We stayed at the Coronado. Had DDP and park hoppers: $4300

There's no way we could ever do 2010 again at that price, and this year we decided not to go at all after pricing out last year's equivalent, which came to $5100 - an $800 increase in just one year. Free dining would help bring that down quite a bit, though, so if that happens we might still go.

We're thinking that in 2014 we may buy AP's and make multiple, shorter trips during the year, staying offsite.

We aren't the type that enjoy trips to foriegn lands, with the exception of maybe Cancun and all-inclusives. Besides that, we prefer domestic adventures and I was hoping to have a two-week-all-frills-included-blowout WDW vacation celebration in 2015 when I retire early. We figured $15-$20k for that but at the current rate it's probably going to be more like $25-$30K.

Ouch.

I do agree that Disney is expensive but when you compare it to other options, well - they are ALL expensive. About the only thing that isn't anymore is a tent at a KOA and I've heard that isn't cheap anymore either.

I'm already out for now and so is the rest of my extended family. We have been regulars at the Disney Parks for 10+ years but now are having to cut back due to the economy. We are huge Disney fans so we are not happy about it. We hope to go back someday. But for now we are going to enjoy some fun day trips in nature and skip amusement parks.

I'm not really seeing a huge increase.

For us there is 5 flying from the west coast and staying for a week.

Since I have yet to see all the increases lets say the price goes up $1000 which is good chunk of change. But when the trip is on the order of $10,000 its not that huge of a price increase.

Its been a decade since we have been to the world and for us its something we want to do.

I used to have a small RV and yes, I think this is an excellent option! Sort of like the DVC price comparison would be. I might have to go back to this. It was great fun for National Parks and just about everywhere!

Go over to the camping board and find out about Fort Wilderness, you both can have your cake and eat it. While not cheap, you can sell your husband on how much cheaper the campsites are than the resort rooms.

It's interesting reading this cause now I've tried to put into perspective. We've got 2 weeks in July for 2 of us including flights, hotel (POFQ), ultimate 14 day ultimate tickets, QSDP and a $100 gift card for $5651. Tickets on there own would have been $766 for both of us, looking at it that way were paying $27 each per day. To us that's amazing value considering this weekend I'm going to my local theme park (Thorpe Park) and even with a BOGOF voucher I'll be paying $35 just for entry. Disney World actually for us is one of the most affordable holidays, though prices for a single days entry are shocking Researching the price hike and seeing that Universal have done the same actually decided the debate on whether or not to do single day at IOA, at that sort of price including transport since neither of us drive WWOHP isn't worth that much to us.
