Booked a GF standard room (outer bldg lagoon view), should we switch? Celebrating DH's 50th 10/17/14 - 10/21/14, meeting up with friends staying at Yacht Club. We have wanted to stay at GF for years! 2yo will need to go to bed early and nap. DH is a heavy snorer! Worried I won't get any sleep! Also 6 yr old DD in our room. It would be ideal, having a villa or rm with a separate living space. But, wanted to stay on monorail for ease of moving about. Don't want to waste $ on this fabulous hotel! Save it for another time? Can it work or should we research a switch?

Honestly at WDW we are so tired by the end of the day, no one has any trouble sleeping. I doubt the kids will even hear your DH snore and for you it should be no different than for home. If DS goes to sleep before we are ready,we just spend a bit of time on our phones and we are not far behind him. For naps, we all lay down with TV on. DS7 now rarely goes to sleep but i often do!!! We make it work because it is what works financially for us!

Only you know best how your little one will sleep. We cannot sleep comfortably in a hotel room for more than a night two tops. We need our individual space to be fully rested even without someone who snores. I once took my parents with on an overnight trip with the kids when dh could not go. My dad snores and it was awful. So awful that I will never sleep in a hotel room with them again. Luckily it was one night, but a night I will never forget and will never repeat. My kids are sound sleepers(our house alarm has gone off and did not wake them up), but for whatever reason when we are in a hotel room my kids don't sleep as soundly and even when exhausted wake a little easier. I think maybe when our bodies are overtired we don't sleep as well(at least in my house). When we are on vacation we like to play hard all day, but have a comfortable place to rest in so we are at the top of our game the next day. That cannot be done in a small space. If booking a hotel room we always do 2 bedrooms and never cut corners on our accommodations.

We have never had a problem in a standard room, be it a value, moderate or deluxe. We are a family of four currently but on our next trip will be a family of five and will stay in a standard room at the Contemporary. I am not worried about space at all.

My oldest daughter talks in her sleep - LOUDLY - but we all manage. We're always so tired anyway that we just all tend to pass out. But, we are also that family that has 3 large couches in our living room but all end up sitting on the same couch. We are a pretty tight group. :crowded:

I can tell you how to make it work!! Buy a good quality sound (noise) machine - works wonders. Dh & I use them 'all' the time. Grandchildren have always used them too. We just love those things! :thumbsup2

You can always put some soft music on headphones and sleep like that, or with some foam earplugs.

Exactly what I was going to say!

I would LOVE your recommendation on a good quality sound machine, what do you like? Are you talking about something like a Sleep Easy sound conditioner, or have you made white noise from an app work? I plan to go with comfortable earplugs or some headphones, and Lunesta if I must! Honestly, we haven't slept in the same room in years, he is a horrendous snorer. We usually get a suite when we travel. Kids don't seem to notice, thankfully.

I know you are right! We will be very tired. I know he snores even worse when he is overtired. Thanks everyone for your ideas and thoughts! I will try not to worry and just be prepared.

I would suggest a 1-bedroom villa. My DH is also a heavy snorer. When my DS was younger and went to sleep earlier, we found the 1-bedrooms to be ideal. My DS could go to sleep, DH and I could stay up and when my husband started snoring, I would crawl into the sleeper sofa with DS.

Since your friends are at YC, why not check pricing on a 1-bedroom at BC or BWI? If you want to stay in the MK vicinity, try VWL, VGF and BLT.

GF is wonderful, but if you can't sleep, it's not worth it!

I use a white noise app on my phone (TM Soft - the free version). It has ads, but the white noise is awesome! (Most apps just loop a segment of sound, but I hear the loop, and subconsciously listen for it.). It also has rainfall, etc.

On a side note, has your hubby ever been tested for sleep apnea? My dad, both inlaws and my DH have it, and using a cpap machine has changed his life (and mine) for the better!!

I second the sound machine. We use a Conair sound machine at home. On vacation I use an app. My husband snores but not awful like my dad. As a kid I could not sleep in the same room as my dad, it was awful! He found out a few years ago he has sleep apnea. As another PP said, he should get checked.

First trip my mother in law came with us we had a regular room at CBR... NEVER again she was in the bed right next to us and is a heavy snorer lol. I am a very light sleeper and I couldn't fall asleep listening to her. Now when she comes with us on trips we book a one bedroom villa so DH & myself get the bedroom and can close the door lol

DH has sleep apnea and uses the machine! Such a life saver lol, no more snoring

Girllllllllllllllllllllllll...........I feel your pain. LOL

First time my DH and I went to Disney (pre baby) we were in a studio and he snored SO bad, I took ALL the pillows in the room (this was in the middle of the night, mind you) and lined them up in the bathroom, and made a bed in the bath tub. Lol! My husband woke up and thought I'd disappeared! He finally opened up the bathroom door and saw me in there- looked like I was in a cocoon.

Meanwhile, it was the best sleep EVER. It really was like I really was in a cocoon!

He took a picture. i'll have to dig that one up.

That being said, we now do a 1 bedroom- DD sleeps in the living room, DH in the bedroom- and I typically roll into bed with the DD when it's time.

Are you staying in a studio or 1 bedroom? If it's a studio...I don't know what to say. You might have to do a bathtub sleep as I did. If you are in a 1 bedroom, everyone camp out in there! Love the living room sleep! I do it every time. ZZZZZzzzzzzzz......

PS- my husband snores like a wild boar in heat. AWFUL. Vibrating bed and all.

As the person who does the snoring, I'm going to tell you, you need a separate sleeping space. It is no fun for the person doing the snoring to get poked and prodded, or told to roll over. And I feel awful knowing I'm keeping someone else from getting their rest. :worried:

I think you should stay put, and just meet your friends in the parks or for meals. Your family will get their rest, and you and your friends won't start getting on each other's nerves.

We really love our machine - it's not an app. We have two and ordered them online. They are from a company called Hammacher Schlemmer. Good luck!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the reality check. I am terrified that this will be one of those stories people tell after they spent the big bucks on a beautiful place like GF -- only to have the magic shattered by the reality of snoring and a baby in bed by 7:30pm!

I will continue to check availability on the one bedrooms. At this point, it's not price -- everything is booked. I suppose if it really worried me, I'd compromise on location but I'm not willing to go to DT Disney area (only locations showing availability). I suppose I could look at adjoining rooms at WL for the price.

I've never stayed on the monorail, really wanted to try it with a 2 yr old so we can be free to split up as needed and get back to resort quickly with my little one.

OK you give me hope! And a good laugh! I could sleep in the tub. But at GF! Is that seriously the experience we have to remember, just because of a snorer?! I can see where you'd get so desperate that the bathtub is a good option. Or a hallway, or a balcony. I seriously haven't slept in the same room with him in several years. The room we have booked is a standard hotel room.

Hi everyone, thanks for the great suggestions. I am going to research the sleep machines suggested here, and try this app too. Unless we come up with another reservation (and I will keep checking) then I am going to have to figure out how to make it work in a standard room.

I KNOW FOR SURE DH has sleep apnea. I've heard it myself. I have been present with the ENT Dr. when it was discussed. DH won't schedule the test. It's practically a given. I think he has delayed getting tested because of the insurance ramifications. And, he is not sure he'd really commit to wearing a CPAP anyway... this soon to be 50 yr old guy is not cool with change.
