How Has 9/11 Changed Your Life?

I am blessed to be able to say that none of my family or friends lost their lives on 9/11 and I live in California, so I am nowhere near any of the crash sites, but I saw the second plane hit and I saw the towers come down live on television two years ago today. I feel my life changed that day. Two years ago I lived on my own. Now I live with my parents in the same bedroom where I slept for 18 years before. I went back to school and got a teaching credential, something that was not in my plans two years ago. I've made some new friends, and lost some old ones. Am I better off for having made that decision. Who can say?

I feel like that day robbed me of my adulthood. I went running back to mommy and daddy less than two weeks after the attacks. I'm still here two years later. Yes, I am now much better prepared to embark upon my chosen profession than I was, but I can't help wondering: What would I be doing right now if that awful day had never happened? How has 9/11 changed some of your lives?

The past few days (as well as the days following 9/11) I keep coming back to the same thought - had those passengers on the plane that went down in Pennsylvania not been so brave, my life might very well have changed irrevocably. My husband works on the White House roof, and that plane was headed for the White House. Had it not been for the courage of those people on that plane, it would have been me grieving my husband along with those people's loved ones on that plane. :(

So I guess that is how 9/11 has changed me - it taught me to never take life or loved ones for granted. :( A simple twist of fate can change your life forever, gotta take advantage of the time we have here on Earth.

We leave for WDW (we cancelled our 2001 trip because of 9-11) on 9-30 and I'm not afraid to fly.... but my kids seem to be and that makes me feel awful.:(

As soon as they get up this morning- the tv is going OFF.

I am not afraid to fly, and I don't live my life in fear, I refuse to do that, it made me think though. As important as it is to save for the future, you shouldn't do it at the expense of yourself, and the present. What is the point of saving everything "for a rainy day" if you aren't enjoying the present, if you can't take a vacation because you have to save every penny just in case. That is why I decided on a spur of the moment (3 months out is spur of the moment for me) trip to WDW, I am still saving money, but I am also doing things I enjoy, because you just never know.
