I have a free ticket to use or lose but only connects thru Chicago. I need some opinions about this airport. thanks

It is navigatable. Just bring your walking shoes if you have to go from one terminal to another.

I sure as heck wouldn't turn down a free ticket just to avoid it.

It is pretty much like all airports - very long hallways and possibly long walks between gates. Porters and Assistance are available if mobility is an issue.

It's not confusing - but it's quite a trek from terminal to terminal if you have to do that. From Dallas to Charleston, we flew through Chicago (???) and had to walk a looooooooooong way. So wear comfy shoes and don't carry too much carryon luggage =)

I'd never turn down a free ticket, regardless of airport connection.

ABSOLUTELY wear comfy shoes. I have flown into Chicago with connections to Vegas, Colorado Springs and to Madison Wisc....and yes, there is allot of walking. Very well marked over head. The signs are HUGE you cannot miss them. The hallways are VERY wide no problem looking up at signs and possibly bumping into some one. And a very clean airport. Tons of restaurants and stores. :goodvibes

I would be flying United. Would 45 minute layover be be too short even if in same terminal?

Too short for what? Generally, the planes start boarding 30 minutes prior to flight. So I am not sure what you plan to do but once you land in Chicago, you need to head to your next GATE. Your flight attendant will most likely tell you while you are still on the orginial flight what Gate you must head to to board your connecting flight. IMHO 45 minutes is not allot of time for any flight in any airport you are connecting at BUT it is manageable...hence the comfy shoes.

Not sure if I answered your question properly? :rolleyes2

I am worried that 45 min might be too short if the gates are in the same terminal but at opposite ends. I guess Im trying to get a feel for how large that United terminal is.

All I know is that my DH complains about the constant weather delays out of O'Hare. I think I'd call United and see what they think of the short connection time. I hope it all works out for you. A free ticket is great, but I understand that you'd like to minimize the stress of the connection process.

I am NOT sure about this BUT I believe that the flight you are connecting to at Chicago KNOWS ALREADY that YOU are landing at O'Hare at such and such time and that you and your party will be arriving to connect at their particular gate. Personally, I like a SHORT layover. I hate hanging around airports to meet a connection. And if I can get a short layover and keep traveling I am happy. It is delays that I hate BUT what can you do. That being said, your connecting flight MAY EVEN BE DELAYED out of O'Hare. Seriously, I would not worry about a 45 minute layover. Keep focused and when de-boarding HEAD directly to your new GATE. You will be fine. This IS do-able. :goodvibes

United leaves primarily from Terminal 1 with a few flights in the very front of Terminal 2. You should have no problem with 45 minutes.
Congrats on the free ticket!

United has the largest terminal by far, but easy to navigate. You'll be fine. Enjoy.
