How hard to get a GV at 7 months?

We're thinking of taking family along to WDW next year (probably October 1-8). Our home is at VWL but we'd like to stay in a grand villa at OKW. If we reserve a 2 BR and studio at VWL, how likely is it we'd be able to switch to a grand villa at the 7 month window? Anyone have an idea?

Conventional wisdom on the boards indicates that it can be difficult to get a GV at 7 months for a week. I was able to get a GV for October 1, 2002 (which was a Wednesday) at 7 months out, but I was only trying for one night, not for a week.

I am a new DVC member and have never tried booking a Grand Villa, but I'm sure it will get easier to book at 7 month window as they build more buildings at SSR-

They will have 18 buidlings when completed and 2 Grand Villas per building. Good Luck!

One option would be to rent points from an OKW owner and book at the eleven month window. Then rent your own points out for the same price. It will take some time and effort, but you'll be assured of the booking - and except for the time and effort, you'll break even.

That would be nice, in theory, but the SSR GVs cost about twice as many points per night as an OKW Grand Villa. I suspect the OKW GVs will remain in-demand for many, many years to come.

OKW GV, October, Weekday = 38 pts
SSR GV, October, Weekday = 71 pts

You can actually book (2) Two-Bedrooms at SSR for FEWER points than a GV on the weekdays. On the weekend it's about 1.5 Two Bedrooms for a GV.
