How hard is it to get HHI in the summer

I'd love to stay at Hilton Head DVC summer of 2009. How hard is it to get in there if this is not your home resort? I can book Dec 1, 2008 for summer of 2009. I've heard it's difficult to stay there. A drive there would be more doable for us then a drive to Orlando and want to do a cheaper vacation this summer so contemplating HHI. It looks really nice from the pictures.

It depends on what type of villa you are looking for. The resort is mostly dedicated 2BR villas. If that's what you want, you should have no problem (unless you're considering July 4 week...). If you want a 1BR or studio, many people have reported success at 7 months, but I would be on the phone as early as you possibly can and maybe be flexible with which week you want.

As far as a GV, I doubt it during the summer; I think they sell out at 11 months, as soon as MS opens.

HH has 21 Studios and 1BR villas and they do go quickly. All are lockoff units. There are only 5 GVs. There are 76 dedicated 2BR villas - which are often available right at 7 months for dates during the summer.

With the dynamics of the DVC reservation system, the wait list also often works - so even it there is nothing available when you first call it would be worthwhile to have MS add your name to the waitlist. (Good things often come to those who wait. ;) )

We called just four months out and went on a waitlist on March 6th of this year for a July 6-10 stay in a studio. Four days came through pretty quick and the last one came through with just a week left to go. It was our first stay and we felt fortunate to get all 5 nights. It was a Sunday-Friday stay. I don't know if the new waitlist system will make it harder or easier to snag these hard-to-get ressies.

I disagree about having no problem getting a 2bdroom for the summer. 7 month success for HHI is very limited except for weekends using points. We added on at HHI in 2002 just to get 11 month window for summer. Early June and late August are better as is trying for a 2 bedroom, but it is still very didfficult unless you are very flexible with your dates...I made our June 2009 on July 11 at exactly 11 months.....can't wait.

Thanks everyone for replies. I'll keep my fingers crossed and try to be flexible. I only need a studio and not many there. But I would like a week, if possible. If I can't get HHI Vero Beach may be a nice alternative. We actually did a non-Disney vacation in July to Captiva Island and the family really enjoyed the change of pace, nonparks vacation.

I have never had to call at 7 months for the summer because we have always booked at 11 months out. But if you look back at many recent threads on this subject, you will see that there have been many successes booking a 2BR at 7 months. Of course, they called the first possible day they could -- anything later and they'd probably be out of luck.

With the ever-increasing number of DVC members, there are more and more people calling at 7 months for all resorts.

I still say you should give it a try, but be flexible with your dates if you can. If you find you like it and want to go more often, by all means, buy points there and avoid the stress! :flower3:
