Friends would like to use my points in July. They are waiting for a tax refund before making reservations. Do studios fill up quickly? By when should we make a reservation if we want 3 studios?

Thanks Tigger

If you're a bit flexible with dates, you shouldn't have a problem.

We have booked studios at the BWV and BCV in Julys past, with five or six months notice, and always gotten just what we wanted. A friend of mine books even closer, and says he's been able to get what he wanted if he can adjust the dates by a day or two one way or another.

Assuming you have dates in mind, my advice is to just make the reservations now. Then you won't have to worry so much. You can cancel a reservation without penalty as long as you do it at least 31 days prior to arrival.

I thought I would have a penalty if I canceled. The penalty would be that I would have to use those points in that use year. Am I correct?

This would be bad as I already made my trip reservations for August and would not need to use the points.

If you cancel at least 31 days in advance, the points are returned to your account with the same status they had just prior to making the reservations. The only problem that might arise would be if you are beyond your banking deadlines. That depends on your use year. If you can't bank, then yes ,you would have to use the points by year end or lose them.

I assumed you would know at least 31 days in advance if your friends would be joining you. I also assumed that you were "saving" current use year points for them to use. If so, it didn't seem to matter if those points were holding a reservation or just sitting in your account while your friends waited for the tax refund.

If you have to borrow points for your friend's reservation, then I see why you are reluctant to do so until they commit.

Were you perhaps planning to bank your points for this year and then borrow next year's points to make your friend's reservation if they decide to go? If so, I understand why you don't want to reserve now.

Friends often just don't understand how things work. Aside from the possibility of losing your points assume you told them that the longer they wait, the less likely it is that there will be studios left at the BCV.

Hope it all works out for you -

Thanks for the reply. I was going to use this years points. If I can still bank them to next year I should be fine. I thought once a reservation was made into a year they had to stay in that year.

Thanks or clearing that up. Tigger
