How good are you at putting laundry away??

I usually put away everything but my clothes LOL. I always "forget" to hang stuff up.

How funny, I was just staring at my laundry room today saying to myself how I really need to fold the laundry. I will do laundry all day long, I just hate folding it and putting it away. Needless to say I finally did it, but the piles will start again tomorrow so why even bother :confused3

I HATE folding laundry but today I won the battle!!! I had 4 baskets, a suitcase of already folded clothes in a suitcase (from our vacation 2 weeks ago) and a bag full of schhol clothes I bought at the consignment store last week. The ONLY thing I have left is to seperate and fold the clothes that are being sent to the consignment store or Goodwill. It might take me 10 minutes to do but I had to get some DIS in before bed. I'll do it tomorrow after work.....or con DH into it!!!:lmao:

Each member of our family has his/her own pop up laundry hamper. So on a certain day of each week I wash one childs hampe rfull of clothing, dry it, put it back in the hamper and that child is responsible for putting away his/her laundry. The pop up hamper is light enough that even my four year old can carry hers w/ clothing in it. And yes, my four year old has to put up her laundry w/ help. I try not to buy to many clothes for everyone because then they would be more likely to miss their laundry day and that defeats the purpose of staying on top of it. Everyone probably has two weeks of clothes more or less, so theoretically they could skip a week, but then they have twice as many clothes to put away.

I have only one laundry basket and that is for towels.
There are six members of our family--me, dh, stepson 17, dd 8, ds 6 and dd 5.

Its been like 4+ months since i first posted this thread.... Although I am in a better place, only because my Sister came home for a visit and caught my laundry up for me, I am still surrounded by piles of folded laundry!! I can count 5 differnt piles right now! The kids piles, my pile, towles for each bthrooms... :laundy: My Washer and Dryer are ALSO in a closet off of my kitchen, so its great to fold it and get it into piles, but beyond that - it is a feat in itself. :confused3

Even when I do need the counters cleaned off, to eat or because people are coming over, the piles just go from here to the bedrooms. There they sit until we either pick through them or they are thrown into the closets in heaps.... :lmao: :rolleyes1 Its a never ending battle!!??:yay:

It is a never ending battle. I can find myself getting "grouchy" over it, but then I remind myself of how ridiculous it is to allow the laundry to determine my mood. You can get it all done today, and tomorrow it starts all over again. Summertime is doubling my loads!! I can't keep up with all the beach towels and swimsuits that my children and their friends are going through in day.

On a good note though, I recently got a new front loading washer and dryer that had a folding top center option(a piece that fits over the washer and dryer and serves has a folding table). I so got it, and I love that I can fold the clothes as they come out and set them on top of the washer and dryer for the kids to grab and put away.

We have two very different laundry styles in my house, but both of refuse to complain about the other for fear they will stop doing any!!!

DH does a lot of it (usually more than me) as the laundry room is off his basement den, so he can throw it in while watching the ball game or whatever. He will completely empty the hamper, wash everything, usually fold, but not put away... just like the OP said. Everything stays clean on the den floor until someone really needs something from it, and I bring a basket of it upstairs.

I, on the other hand, will make a load around the item(s) I want clean, or do the sheets, or pool laundry, or whatever. - But I usually only do one load at a time, bring it upstairs to fold, and put it right away. When it's just me doing it for awhile, the hamper is never completely empty at once! (which probably drives DH crazy, but like I said, we're very patient with each other's styles, because you can't mess with what works!)

I have gotten ALOT better about washing... I now do it weekly instead of bi weekly LOL I decided small loads were better then LARGER ones. I have no problems with the hangups its all those darn folded piles. I have teen boys so I put theirs in a basket and they put them away. I put our away which is easy since my washer and dryer are in the hallway off our bedroom. I love having them upstairs with our bedrooms, makes life easier. Right now I have 1 pile of towels to wash and 2 baskets to fold.

Up until 2 months ago I was terrible about getting it put away. It would all be clean but just sit in baskets. Once I finally got everything washed and put away I have been keep on top of it...it only took me 10 years to finally get into a wash then put away cycle !!

Ahh, I have found my long lost family!! For some reason I just can't get the laundy put away. The only one who has clothes actually in the dresser is DD because I make her take her clothes, she sorts them and puts them away. BTW she is only 7 and for some reason DH(44) and I (40) can only manage to pile our clean any and everywhere. :rotfl2:

I think I start every weekend swearing that I will clean out and pick up and put away all the laundry...it's just that something else always comes up. I am so glad to have found a 'familiy' that is just like me. :rotfl:

I am the same way....LOL

I have been doing really good getting it put away, but I still have my moments (like right now) where there are 2 baskets full that need to be put up. Before we had kids we had all of our socks in one basket that I refused to match and put away, but once the baby was born there was an extra set of socks so I thought I should start putting them away...:lmao: Now if I just felt that way about the clothing I would be doing good!!!:)

The guest bedroom just got cleaned off with all clothes folded and put away!!

REASON: Parents coming to stay for several days!!!

Sometimes we just need a little motivation!!!:rotfl:

I do laundry once a week rather than a load a day. I fold it all and each person is responsible to put up their own and the towels for their bathroom. That leaves me to only put away mine and DH's. If I were the OP any child 5 or older would be putting away their own clothes.

Laundry is the one household task I almost enjoy and I don't have a problem keeping up with it. I think maybe it's because there's some satisfaction in it. I can spend all evening doing laundry but then it's done for a week. Unlike spending an hour cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms from top to bottom only to have someone fix a snack or decide to shower and shave and mess it up 5 minutes after I finish cleaning. Plus I can watch TV while I do laundry.

I grew up in a large family and we were always digging clean socks and underwear out of a basket. I hated that.

Laundry is still taking over my life!!!!:scared1: I just cant seem to keep up with it!! I swaer I need to take a few days off rom work and just do laundry!! :laundy: And even when i do get it shuffled and folded, i cant seem to put it away! :headache: How is everyone else out there doing??

So cool that I found this thread. I make sure the clothes are always done promptly but once folded it just sits in a pile in their rooms. Here's my issue...am I the only one who tries to hang everything up in their closets? That is what prevents them from getting put away. I started this routine when it was just one child but now with 3 and me working I don't have time to hang everything up. Am I a total idiot? What stuff do you hang versus fold and put in drawers? Thanks.

I haven't read any of the other responses yet so I am hoping I'm not alone.

I hate, hate, hate laundry. It's a small miracle if I get it washed let alone put away!!

We have a sock basket. It's one huge laundry basket with every single sock we own in it. In the morning we circle around the sock basket and dig until we find two that match! :rolleyes1

Ahhhhh......The giant sock basket!! We have one here too. The boys complain- "I hate this thing!" Then I say- "Well, feel free to match them all up and we won't have it."

That's the end of that. They won't do it, and I refuse to do it anymore. It will be just back to where we started in about a week anyway.:rotfl: Life's too short to be matching up 10,000 pairs of socks a week!

I have no problem doing the laundry,:laundy: it's the folding and when it comes time to put the laundry away I always seem distract by something, and it will sit in my room for days. Sometimes I am not so good at getting them out of the dryer, so if my kids are looking for their clothes they know to look in the dryer even the 5 year old. :rotfl2: Maybe when I become rich someone else will do it for me. Oh, and they can clean the house for me too.

Just read the title and nothing else! And I am sitting here laughing!!!:rotfl2:
My DH just asked me not to do the laundry if I can't put it away. I guess he is getting tired of the wrinkles:lmao:
The next thread should be Iron...what's that???:rotfl2:
