How good are you at putting laundry away??

:happytv: I am going to go in my bedroom, scoop up all the cloths off my floor (that have been from the dryer:laundy: to th bed, to the floor, back on the bed, back on the floor) that are now on their way to the living room where I am going to park my behind on the couch with a frosty cold beverage, the **** tube and a remote!! I am not going to go to bed until they are folded and piled!:laundy: We we tackle the piles and putting away another day!! Wish me luck!! :cheer2:

Washing clothes: no problem

Folding clothes: no problem

Putting away my sons' clothes: no problems ever

Putting away my clothes: priceless...just kidding! Seriously, I am terrible with this!

Keeping our room organized: it's always the last room I clean

Keeping our kids' rooms organized: the neatest rooms in the house!

My whole house is always very clean, just clutter is a problem. As George Carlin said in his standup act...a house is just a place to store your stuff, while you go out and...get more stuff!! So true! ;)

With the Holidays here it is really upsetting, but I know I can never catch up.
The laundry is done.
I have the house to clean and did not even put up the tree yet. But, I have been severly depressed and trying to act OK so the family is not upset.

I am not ordinarily an organized housekeeper, things are clean, just not always in their place or put away. Clutter always to part with....

My older daughter passed away this year and it is so difficult to normally get into holidays, but Christmas, her favorite is coming far to soon.
I only have a few days left to get rid of the laundry, clean and shop.:sad2:

I will get it done, wish others would pitch in....
Like was said it is washed and clean....

I have asked DH to build me some shelving with cubbies in our laundry room. I would like to have a huge closet near the laundry room for the whole family rather than having to take it all over the house to put it away.

I am HORRIBLE at it! Right now I have piles of clean clothes in laundry baskets. I just hate folding laundry.

Me Me Me!!! I HATE putting away laundry. I usually have stacks on top of the dryer and the rod loaded up above the machines. I always secretly wanted a family closet like the Duggar's have where all the clothes are in the same spot. I hate putting away dishes, too. I don't know why those are the things I hate the most. I also usually have a laundry basket full of socks and just find matches when I need them. By the time I get around to matching them I have just washed more and have added to the bunch!!

And at the risk of embarrassing myself, I'm posting a picture of my laundry room. At least YOUR pile of laundry is clean and waiting to be folded!

P.S. There is also another laundry basket completely full of socks needing to be paired up.

I was going to post a picture, but I can't figure out how to do it. A few years ago we actually stopped calling our pool table a pool table and started calling it by its proper name "the laundry table". I have an easier time finding everyone's clothes in the morning rush that way. I really think there's something to the idea of having a community closet close to the laundry room or in it if possible. I'll definitely have to look into that.
Also, definitely count me in as one of those people that is not overly enthusiastic in the de-cluttering department. I always say that my goal is to keep my house in a state so that I won't be embarassed if someone drops by unexpectedly. Can't really say that I've attained that goal for any great length of time so far, but I refuse to give up!

ETA...True confession here...I have no problems going to bed at night with dirty dishes in the sink! Oh! the horror! :scared1:

I don't mind doing laundry, but I do hate putting it away. I do laundry once a week (unless something is really bad, stained, whatever..)..2 huge loads of darks and 2 huge loads of whites.

Here's how I got out of putting laundry away....I bought a 32" LCD flat screen and had it mounted on my bedroom wall complete w/ Tivo..Dh now volunteers to put the laundry away so he can watch football in HDTV on the LCD. :thumbsup2

I have lowered my standards and now my DS2 is able to help. I almost enjoy folding and putting away laundry now because we do it together. We dump all the laundry (I do a bunch all at once) in his room. He picks out all his clothes from the pile. His underwear, socks, shorts, PJs actually don't get folded (those are things that don't wrinkle - at least at his size), but he puts them in the correct drawers. So I just fold his t-shirts and hang his good clothes. I still fold most of DH and my stuff, but I'm able to do it while DS is putting his laundry away. :thumbsup2 Anyways - not Martha Stewart, but works for us, so I thought I'd pass it on.

I wash clothes probably twice a week. Good stuff gets folded right away & put in the laundry basket, other items (socks, underwear, etc) just gets tossed in on top.......

And then it sits right where it is until I have time to put it all away - or someone is yelling, "mom, do I have any clean underwear?"

I have 6 laundry baskets because I am lazy :rotfl:

DH helps occasionally. My oldest is 6 and I've just recently asked him to start putting his clothes away.

Terrible. Laundry is the chore I hate more than anything! I let it pile up, and then I spend all day Sunday running the washer and dryer. I don't know why - I just HATE it! I don't mind sorting, washing, then deciding what gets hung and what goes into the dryer (too much Gymbo here...!) BUT I HATE folding and putting away. HatehateHATE it! Especially DH's clothes for some reason. :confused3

And I have no excuse. I am a SAHM. I really don't understand why this is such a problem for me....

And I have no excuse. I am a SAHM. I really don't understand why this is such a problem for me....

I have the answer to that!!

Because it's such a pain in the @$$! And it's a thankless chore. If your house is clean, everyone knows it.

If your socks are dirty, just don't take off your shoes! Who's gonna know if everything in your underwear drawer is folded and organized by color? Nobody! Not even your DH!

I'm a SAHM and even though the laundry is clean, it's very seldom folded. They are sorted into each of our baskets, in my bedroom just sitting there. The reason they don't get folded though is pretty much my 2 year old and probably my 8 month old. They like to help (You know the kind you fold it they unfold it and throw it on the floor). It's just easier to not fold it right away but then I get into a cycle of oh I'll do it later and before you know it it's just piled up and there's just to much to fold. We have guest coming for Christmas and that's where the coats are going so the laundry will be folded and the bed will be made.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for starting this thread, OP!!!

I am the worst about putting away laundry. I wash and dry it, then it usually gets dumped on the floor of the laundry room to make way for another load going into the dryer. Thank heavens we have a big laundry room, so I can just shut the door and pretend it's not there...waiting...lurking...coming to get me...:lmao:

Wow! There are so many of us! I fit right into this group. Honestly, I have about 6 or 7 loads of laundry on my sofa and ottoman right now. Half of it is folded, but my dd messes it up before I get it put away. I wash about 1 or 2 loads per day, but I don't put it away.

I love flylady. I have to get her emails in the daily digest, so 1 per day, but I have made so much progess with her. I too have a house that is mostly clean, but cluttered. My 3yo likes to spread her stuff throughout the house and pull things out faster than I can clean it. I was just thinking that I need to start a chart for her for cleaning up her stuff. I also need to schedule some VVA pickups. I schedule them for a week in advance, and then it forces me to get some boxes or bags together. Laundry really is much easier when you have less to wash, but I went shopping and didn't get rid of anything for about a year, so I need to deal with that. I also struggle with paper clutter, mail and filing paid bills. My files are full by December, so I have to bag it all up and clear out the files for the new year.

One Flylady tip I love and am trying to get back into is setting a timer and just doing the job you are putting off for 15 minutes. I was dreading the dishes this morning and set a timer. By the end of 15 minutes, I had unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and only had 1 large skillet and a colander left to wash. Silly that I wasted more time dreading the job that only took 15 minutes of my time.

I've always had major problems with this, but I have done a few things to make it a little easier. I put one of those cheap plastic 5 drawer dressers in the laundry room, and each person has one drawer that I put socks/underwear/bras in straight out of the dryer. The bottom drawer is mismatched socks, gymnastics outfits, swimsuits, stuff a friend left when they spent the night, and anything else I don't have a "home" for. We also put a hanging rack in the laundry room, so anything that gets hung up I can hang right away, and even if it doesn't make it to that person's closet, at least it's not getting wrinkled in a basket somewhere.

For the girls, I fold their stuff and put in piles on the bottom bunk, and they have to put it away before they can go to bed. Once in a while, they ignore it and I find it on the floor a couple days later, but they're getting better. We're getting a new puppy, so I told them if they don't want their stuff chewed up, they have to keep it put away.

DH does his own work clothes, and is allowed to do towels or bedding, but I don't let him touch anything else after he ruined a sweater and a swimsuit by putting them in the dryer several years ago. He has learned that if he needs to take a load from the washer to the dryer, to ask me first if there's anything that can't go in the dryer.

My major problem is letting the dirty clothes pile up and it takes forever to get everything clean, and then leaving the last load I wash in the dryer. DH will fluff it the next day and take one thing out, and then it gets fluffed again the next day to take out something else, but I never put it all away until I need the dryer again!

We have a 3-sectioned sorter in the laundry room, one in the bathroom, a hamper in our room, and a hamper in the girls' room, so if I don't do laundry til all those are full, I end up with about 12 loads to wash! At least it's all contained, but it's amazing how fast it piles back up after I wash it all! We have to go through our laundry room to get out the back door, so I have to keep it fairly picked up, but we do have a spare room upstairs that has about 5 baskets of clean outgrown clothes, old towels, sheets, and who knows what else that I really need to tackle!

I am soooooo glad I found this during my procrastination. My parents are coming today for the holidays and the "extra" bedroom bed is COVERED in clothes. I have slowly gone up and folded clothes and now there are just a few pieces left to put away. I do much better under pressure and a HUGE deadline. My goal for the new year is to DECLUTTER our house.

My DD5 has so many clothes that she has out grown in her closet that I need to purge before she gets ALL of her Christmas gifts from grandparents or we will have no room for the new stuff that she can wear.

It is a never ending cycle. Once something is clean I feel like it is dirty again.

Thanks again for this thread!! I know I am not alone.:surfweb:

Not sure I understand the question??? You mean you are supposed to put it away??? Oh dear.

This is quite possibly my biggest weakness. I can wash it but I'll be darned if it EVER gets any further than the laundry baskets. We have a sock basket that we all dig through to try and find two matching socks. :rolleyes1

Right now my bedroom looks like the site of a laundry tornando. Not sure I could tell you the color of the carpet!! Maybe that is why I am single...lost the last guy somewhere under the heap-o-laundry.

I HAVE to find me a man that can/will do laundry from start to finish.

OH MY! This is my resolution and chore for Christmas Vacation! To get our kids room back in order ... to weedout all the crap they don't use, haven't used or have out grown! Especially after yesterday, they have more clutter in their room than usual!! Especially the mound of cloths! :scared1: Next year i am thinking of putting a 3 gift maximum on the kids for my parents. I swear they get more "stuff" from them than anyone else!! :confused3 My mom enjoys buying and wrapping it all , I get stressd out and overwhelmed just thinking about l the work and clutter!! and finding a place for it in our small house!!

Happy New Year all! :surfweb: So how is the Laundry Pile going (or not going) these days?? We had a snow day again today andI have avoided laundry like the plague! Did my grocery shopping and a few other errands, but laundry is haunting me! Why do laundry when I can hang out here on The Disboards? I dont expect DH home for a few hours, so I will have to get at picking up the house soon enough, but for right now, I am seeing whats happening on The Dis!! :confused3
