How good are you at putting laundry away??

Laundry is supposed to be folded? hmmm...that is an interesting thought. I don't mind washing, drying, or even ironing but I HATE to fold and put it away. Hence my DH had dubbed my half of the room...Mt. Pile-o-clothes.

I suppose it has something to do with having so many clothes that if they are all clean there is no way to get everything put away. There are advantages to staying the same size for over 10 years.

As I'm sitting here, surfing the web, my laundry is happily churning away in the machine. I'm pretty good at the washing part. The part I need to work on is the carrying the laundry upstairs to our bedroom and putting it away. For a good while it will sit in the baskets, neatly folded (I do that while I'm watching tv at night). It's usually super heavy though so I get DH to help carry it up the stairs and then... it sits for awhile.

And sits some more.

And um, sits some more.

Until I need a laundry basket and then I'll put things away. ;)

Terrible. We're usually pretty caught up on the washing and drying. DH likes folding, so even that's usually done. But, the piles and baskets of folded laundry just sit. As often as not, we're digging clean socks, undies and shirts right out of the basket.

Isn't it funny that we all are the same about this laundry issue? The REALLY funny part is that if one of us were to invite all of the op to our house, we would STILL have to hide all of the laundry eventhough we all have our own piles of clean clothes lurking in our homes! I have tried to become better at folding and putting away the clean laundry so that I don't feel so overwhelmed and behind all of the time. I throw in a load of laundry every morning when I get out of bed. I go up a few hours later to put it into the dryer and then later in the day I fold it right out of the dryer and put it away. Then I set aside Wednesday as my "laundry day". On Wed, I wash whatever dirty clothes I have in the house. I then put DD9 and DD6's clean clothes in a basket and put it in their room. They are responsible for folding it and putting it away. Sometimes they don't do a great job at folding and sometimes they try to stuff too much into one drawer, but I realize that if I want them to learn how to do it they need to have lots of practice and at least I'm not having to do it!! DD2's clothes I still fold and put away for her, because, well let's face it, that's just asking for trouble eventhough she'd be more than happy to "fold' her own clothes. On wed, I also soak/treat any stains and sew on any buttons that need it or minor mending. This system has helped me stay on top of the laundry and is actually working very well because I never have to do too much at one time. I always feel great on Wed evening!!

I'm horrible at it. Dh usually puts it away because he gets tired of the piles and baskets sitting around!

This is soooo true and soo funny to think about!:lmao: Last night after reading all these posts, andthinking I was going to be ambitous and fold my Mtn of Laundry, I pulled all the cloths into the center of the dining room. DS1 played on it all evening and there it sat this morning when we got up. Just before we headed out the door ths morning to run errands, I lugged it back into my room and there it sits on MY floor in a big heap!!?? I did this because if someone had stopped by while the kids and I were out, I would have been mortified if anyone saw my Mtn of Cloths! :rotfl: I will attempt it again tonight, I VOW to have it all folded before the weekend is over! Thank Goodness its a long weeknd!! :rotfl2:

:laundy: As I sit here, I realize that I am reallybad at folding and putting laundry away. don't get me wrong, its clean. And usually folded. But am realy bad at puting the "piles" away once they are delivered to the rightful rooms. Not sure why - if it reverts back to childhood and I would trade the laundry chore for dishes or setting/clearing the table anyday, than have to shuffle and fold laundry. Then put it away!!? TORTURE!! :laundy:

I work 30+ hours a week, but try to do at least 2 loads of laundry each night. I have 3 kids, a husband who requires "work cloths" (he works on tractor trailers most days or something else equeally dirty) as well as regular weekend, evening cloths, my cloths, we reuse towels every few days, and most mornings I will pick my boys outfits out of the clean, unfolded cloths to help depelet my "work load" ... I am curious to know if there are any others out there with the same "problem"?? I am otherwise a very clean and orderly person, I swear!! :confused3 :surfweb:

You are supposed to put the laundry away after you wash it and fold it?? My laundry seems to live in the clothes basket after it is washed and folded.

:thumbsup2 I did it all on Monday!! I even brought it to the right rooms, its still sitting there in baskets oron the floor, but its folded and "put away"... Out of sight, out of mind!! :laundy: Now, If I can just keep up with what has accumulated over the past few days, I'll be a-ok! I am home today from wotk - DS1 is sick with borderline bronchitis, so I should be able to wittle away at it!!?? :rolleyes1 We'll see how that goes....

I posted earlier about how I hate folding and putting away laundry. Here's more proof. I have the entire day off...put the bedroom door is firmly shut, everthing else is nice and tidy, and here I sit on the DIS!!! I have the feeling DH will get tired of loking at them and will offer to help do them this weekend. :lmao: :lmao:

I am awful at putting the piles away! And right now I have 2 baskets waiting to be folded -- I'll do that tonight, but it won't get put away I'm sure.

:cloud9: We just got back from Disney World two days ago *sniff*sniff* - and dirty laundry is taking over my house!!! We were there for 8 full days and witha family of 5, it is out of control!! Not to mention that I had 2 loads of clean, unfolded laundry on my bed from before we left (I tried not to leave any more dirty laundry than I possibly could, as I knew that it would be overwhelming when we got home).... But i havent even touched the suitcases and have only been working on the overnight bags, towels that we brought with us, and what we had worn in transit, as well as cloths from the past 2 days!! :scared1: BUT I knew I was in good company and could come here for to moral support!! ;)

hate hate hate hate putting it away I guess its becsuse I have to do everybody's piles BLAHHHHHH

We started a new thing here...I do everyone's laundry and then fold it, DFi is supposed to be putting it away. Somehow, I'm holding up MY end of the deal but he isn't doing so good. So much for that huh? We are back to clean laundry, folded in baskets, sitting in the living room. <Sigh>

Well, I am typing out (on Grey's Anatomy they dance it out, I type it out) an angry day here at home with the kidlets and have to confess that I, too, hate hate hate laundry. I would pay someone a whole bunch of money to do it for me weekly, if I could stand to let someone else put it where it doesn't belong!!!;)

I am spoiled because I have a friend who helps with the kids a few days a week, because she loves to, and will stay one day a week occasionally to fold the laundry. But here is the really spoiled part and makes me think that I need to seek help and perhaps medication to deal with it...

Even though she folded it all, she left it in random piles all over the living room. Seriously. There are boy pajama bottoms mixed in with sweatpants. There are boy pajama tops mixed in with regular shirts. Girls' clothes are mixed with boys as well and there are multiple piles all over the place. Seriously. 20 separate piles that I had to pick up and put away in the same place. ugh.

I shouldn't be mad about it. She did fold about 4 baskets worth of clothes. But how does a person not know that pajamas are pajamas and shirts are not?:confused3

Oh well. It beats me doing it and ending up just as angry. Really need to see a dr. about my issues. . .

I think my biggest issue with laundry is that is just never ending! Other projects around the house - I get a sense of accomplishment from.. Laundry, not so much!

The best thing to happen to me lately (regarding laundry ;) ) is that I got rid of my pain in the neck front loader, and got a large top loader.. oh, what a relief!!!! I could-not-stand that thing!! Makes laundry a bit more enjoyable now.

I love hearing how everyone else organizes their laundry... I wish I had the extra room in my laundry room to make cubby's for the kids.. I like the idea of handling each piece once... pull it from the dryer, fold and stick in cubby.. but I don't have the room. :crowded:

My system is to just keep the wash moving.. 2-4 loads a day.. never let it pile up... then all shirts and pants go straight from dryer to hanger in the laundry room. I end up carrying the hanger items to everyones rooms, but that's pretty quick. All the other items can get thrown into baskets for later folding (wrinkles won't matter). My kids can put away all of the non-hanger clothes - socks, undies, pj's... but I really don't fold... I just make a pile underwear, a pile of socks, and I kind of fold pj's. The BEST- I buy their socks in bulk, so they always have about 12 of the same kind of socks.. They all just get thrown in their drawer and they just grab 2! :thumbsup2 It works well...!

Now, ask me how long the clothes stay on the hangers in the laundry room... and how long the clean baskets stay in my bedroom waiting to be emptied...?? :rolleyes1
Typically late at night, after being on the dis... while watching something on tv... ;)

Don't forget the dishes! They are the 2nd worse chore for me (behind laundry, of course!). ;)

I HATE laundry! I would rather scrub toilets with a toothbrush (not my own mind you) than do laundry!!!!:headache:

I hate laundry !! I don't mind the washing, and the drying, but I am a nut about wrinkles (and I don't iron), I hang most everything up on hangers straight from the dryer. I also hate carrying the hangered clothes up the steps.
I came up w/ a solution.... DD10 has been given chores :rotfl2:
It's her job now to carry all the dirty laundry downstairs, take all the clean laudry upstairs (hangered and in the baskets).
She puts some of it away, and I do some.
She hates it as much as I do, but if she wants her play time, she must do it :woohoo:
