How good are Pal Mickey's tips about character meets?

I've read a lot about Pal Mickey and what he does, and how he's good at rides and parades.

How good is he at telling you about character meets? Does he only tell you about the same things that are scheduled on the sheets you pick up on entering the park, or does he give you "insider" tips about surprise appearances?

I'm pretty sure we'll be buying him one way or another (or at least renting him to see if we want to keep him), but I would like to know how much of a bonus he's going to be.

Characters are a really big deal for us; not so much autographs as pictures with them, so I would love to have an edge in searching them out!

First, let me say that we LOVED our Pal Mickey on our visit last week! He does not say much about character visits except for the "spots" where they usually are. Example: the Pooh character spot at AKL and Jasmine/Aladin in Morocco at EPCOT. We do not "do" character visits. We only did one the whole trip. Pal Mickey is super for short line tips, show tips, etc.

During our April trip our Pal Mickey was helpful....we love him! He did inform us of character meet & greets in Epcot. Once when we were sitting in Morocco he told us that this was about the time that Belle & Beast usually make a visit to France...we walked over and found them...they were sort of behind everything...we never would have found them otherwise. Later, he also informed us that this is about the time that Pooh is visiting England, but we had many photos with Pooh already so we did not go check it out.
