I was at the grocery store one day when a young woman with an elderly gentleman and two small children was trying to get milk, cereal, and orange juice with a WIC card. The checker told her the card would not be active until the next month. I offered to buy her few grocery items for her and I think it embarrassed her and she refused and left very quickly. That upset me very much because I just can't imagine allowing my own children to go hungry because I was too proud to accept help. By the time I got home and told my DH about it, I was crying. I just kept thinking about those babies at home and hungry. My DH told me that if I ever run across a situation like that again to pull out my checkbook and buy a young mother what ever she needs and he would be OK with that. I could not have loved my DH more at that moment. He makes me a better person.
