I took typing in high school on an actual typewriter and would advise everyone who has kids to encourage them to take a keyboarding class. Even if you aren't doing a job that requires typing, it's still a good skill for other things in life. I can't tell you how many people I see when I go to UPS that cannot use a keyboard to type the labels to ship their packages

In school, my best was 60 no errors (an A+) but that was with a typewriter.

70WPM, give or take. Mostly depends on how much sugar and caffene is coursing through my veins. My son just started college and I wonder how he is going to manage without his younger sister doing all his typing for him. Neither of them took a formal typing course which I think is a major failing on the part of our local school system. Why teach cursive writing when keyboarding has become such a vital part of living in today's world?

I also took typing in HS on an IBM Selectric(?) because we were the first freshman class to have a computer class requirement (the computers were made by Atari, which should indicate how old I am). I think on the final speed test I reached a scorching 38wpm. On this test, I managed to squeak out a 56wpm, but I've been typing a lot more since my freshman year in HS...a LOT more.
