My wife has this idea about "popping" down to Miami for the day. I know there are organised trips but I was wondering if I drive how far is it?:confused3:banana::banana::banana:

Agreed I wouldn't pop down for a day trip but certainly for a WE :)

Google maps estimate the drive to be 4 hours, we are flying into miami and cannot decide to stay at soutyh beach or just travel up to Vero Beach.

Depends how much you enjoy driving in 1 day. Couple of years ago I drove upto Georgia, visited Savannah, Port Pulaski and Tybee Island, met up with friends who had driven down for the day from North Carolina also did some Geocaching with them, I think we found about 10.
It was a very long day, set off about 6am, got to the area for about 11am after 5 hours drive, set off back about 8pm hit a bit of bad traffic back to hotel for 2am, 6 hours back.
Wouldn't hesitate to do it again, one of the best days we have had over there.

It took us about 4 hours... I would definitely do it as a day trip, from what I remember from when we spent 5 nights there there's not that much to do, other than sit on the beach! Can definitely do all the tourist sites in a day!

We've done it as a few days away from Orlando. Maybe book a couple of nights down there.

I wouldn't do it as a day trip. Takes 4 hours each way and turnpike is boring - not a scenic drive.

We do like Miami have been several times before we had DD.

If you like shopping, come back via sawgrass mills - huge outlet shopping mall and it has a cheesecake factory.

Yep - I would agree.

We did it a few years ago, 4 hours each way but quite enjoyed the drive.

We stayed a week, and that was probably too long in my opinion, could easily "do" miami in 2-3 days. Well worth the trip though - a unique kind of place.
